DARE to BE bold. A student walks therunway in dramatic fashion. Anotherquestions their own thinking in theclassroom. On the sidelines, pricelessmoments are captured for all to remember.Another year, another opportunity for THESTORM to BE BOLD. In 2017 it was hardto stand out, to stand above the rest in aworld with instant access to almostanything. Students consumed with thelatest trend one day, were easily divertedto the next big thing within hours.Snapping their lives away, fingers glued tophones. But through it all, our studentsmaintained true to their constant drive toBE the difference. Students were DARED
to increase their already high test scores.Challenge met. The STORM led the statein the ACT. Club engagement continuedto soar as involved students WERE clearlythe backbone of our school. Outside of theschool walls, students made theirpresence known in the community:volunteering, working, promoting schoolspirit. We were loud, we were proud. We WERE BOLD.

[Be]adventurousSummer IS when we ARE bold. Sweltering days spent withfriends down at a lake house; we enjoy the break from tests,
homework, lectures by swimming, boating, tubing, and fishing.Long, adventurous nights waste away to sleepy mornings; notgetting up until half past 11. Coming and going as we please
between our house and our best friend's house. Juggling sports, camps, volunteering, vacations, clubs, jobs, but we still maketime to fit in family and friends. Celebrating Memorial Day
and the Fourth of July with fireworks and bonfires. Traveling13 hours in the car with our siblings and parents, finallyarriving at the vacation spot, making it all worth while.
BE young, BE free, seek adventure.

While most students relax and take a break fromschool during the summer, others took theopportunity to advance their knowledge. A
Certified Nursing Assistant, or CNA, is a license thatallows for the practice of real-life nursing skills. "The three main skills I learned was giving baths, cleaning teeth, and take patients vitals,” senior BridgetKardell said. When junior Gabby Campisi got her license shelearned to do the simpler tasks that nurses perform. "It allows you to assist in transferring people, usinglifts to get them out of bed, help feed them, and do thingsnurses ask of you,” Campisi said. To receive a CNA license, you have to attend a classfor two weeks over the summer. The class took place atElkhorn High School and ran from 8am to 5pm everyweekday. Students in the class were able to learn vitaltechniques and practice them hands-on with manikins.
“It was very fun once you got to actually practicing theskills,” Campisi said. For those who wanted to go into a nursing career, thisclass was a great opportunity to become more preparedfor what the job will look like. “Having a CNA allows me to work at hospitals, rehab, and assisted living facilities. It allows me to practice in afield I hope to pursue as a career,” senior Savana Adamssaid. Besides being a great stepping stone to the medicalfield and various careers, it was also rewarding for Adamsto have her license and know she could make a difference. “I am passionate about caring for other people and Ilove the elderly,” Adams said. “Also, my grandpa recentlypassed away with dementia and I had the privilege ofcaring for him during his final days, so knowing how mucha good CNA impacts people fuels me to be the best I canbe.” Story by Ashlyn Dickmeyer

BEa hard worker[Team leader gets the job done at state]
Paradise is defined as a place thatis perfect for a particular activityof for a person who enjoys that
activity. For the golf team this was the golfcourse. The golf course was peacefuland beautiful for these girls, it also wasa place of hard work. The golf teamsmotto was "golf practice is another dayin paradise." This saying motivated theteam to be very successful throughoutthe year. With hard work and determination thegolfers made it to state. The player whostood out this year on the golf teamwas junior Megan Whittaker. With timeand dedication for the sport Whittakerwon state. "It felt really good to win and have allmy work pay off," Whittaker said. With all of Whittaker's passion for golfshe she would often help out herteammates. The encouragementWhittaker gave her teammates helpedthem to succeed and improve.
