    We believe that every

child needs and deservesthe Five Basics:

    1. A one-on-one

    relationship with a

    caring adult

    2. A safe place to learn

    and grow

    3. A healthy start and

    healthy future

    4. A marketable skill to

    use upon graduation

    5. A chance to give

    back to peers and

    community.

    CIS school-based

programs are designed toprovide students with at

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHTOn behalf of EastSide Charter School, CIS Site Director, Becky Stahl,

and Project Coordinator, Ashley Widdoes, would like to extend ourgratitude to the Food Bank of Delaware and volunteers from the Bank

of America for their generosity and support this Thanksgiving season. The school counseling team worked together to identify twenty

EastSide Charter School families that were in need of assistance thisholiday season. Thanks to the Food Bank of Delaware, each of the

twenty families received a turkey and twenty five pounds of

thanksgiving fixings along. The enthusiastic volunteers packed ourcars with the holiday goodies. On November 16th, the counseling team

at EastSide Charter, including Heather Lappi, School Guidance

Counselor, Shayne Jervey, School Family Crisis Therapist, and CIS

staff hand delivered the Thanksgiving Baskets to our familiesthroughout the community. All the families voiced great appreciation

Coasting, Flying High, and Soaring toFriday Celebrations!

CIS brings a Healthy Start and a

    Healthy Future to ESCS through

    Zumba!

    During the month of November,

    the EastSide Charter School

    community experienced the fun

    and new health craze Zumba!

Zumba is a Latin dance inspired

fitness program. On November 30th, all students that earned Friday

Celebration got to participate in the CIS sponsored event. Students earn

Friday Celebration for demonstrating SOAR expectations throughout the

school week. Ms. Jana Walker a local

fitness instructor, met the ESCS students in

the gym and led them in Zumba. Each

session was specialized with age appropriate

music and dance moves. The students came

    together and completed this intense

workout. Through this exercise, the students

had fun, accelerated their heart rate, and

learned something new. It was great to seeso many students laughing and getting fit at

the same time. We would like to give a

special thanks to Ms. Dion Harris for ordering water to give out to all the

participants after they completed the work out.

High Flyer Field TripBeginning this school year, ESCS adopted a new Positive Behavior Support

program. Every day, students can go home on purple soaring, blue - flying

high, green coasting, yellow off the ground, or red landed. The goal is

for all students to go home on green, blue, or purple. At the end of each

school day, every student that has worked exceptionally hard and goeshome on either blue or purple earn a punch on their High Flyer Card

(pictured below left). At the end of each quarter, all students that earn 30

punches get to go on the High Flyer Field Trip. CIS

staff organized the first trip of the year to the

    Christiana Skating Rink. Approximately 50

students attended. The students had a great time

at the roller rink. Currently, CIS is planning the 3

remaining trips for this school year. We are

looking into trips to the Aquarium, to watch the

Globetrotters play at the University of Delaware,
