SPECIFIC LEARNING OUTCOMES Students should be able to: 1. Identify, gather and evaluate reading materials for an article on teenagers

issues. 2. Write an article on The Effectiveness of Using Drama in an ESL Classroom.

3. Stage a drama based on one of the childrens popular story book with an

appropriate setting and props to suit Malaysia classrooms. 4. Develop inter/intra personal and language skills through plays and drama.

THE PROJECT ( 100% )

Based on the popular childrens story books you are required to stage a drama/play in a group of six. The drama is meant to focus on moral values and certain learning objectives to be achieved. TASK 1 ( a ); Preparing a Portfolio on the whole process, right from the beginning to the final staging of the drama/play.( 20% )Individually, Identify and determine a children story, to be worked on. Show the process of discussions and selecting the specific story, modifying the settings and the characters to fit into your lesson and suitable for Malaysia settings.

TASK 1 ( b ) Staging the Drama/Play.( 40% )

Based on the story book you have chosen with your group, prepare a script and perform the drama/play on stage.TASK 1 ( c ) Write an article of about 500- 700 words on the Effectiveness of Using Drama/Play in an ESL Classroom.

A GOOD PROJECT SHOULD SHOW:

1. a clear and critical understanding of the task

2. an ability to source for suitable reading materials

3. originality in analysing texts and preparing the project

4. good organization, cooperation among the group members in the process of selecting, editing, training and final staging of the chosen drama/play to be perfectly staged

5. appropriate language use

DETAILED REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROJECT

1. Cite the source of the texts and any references you used, using the APA format.

2. No duplication of assignments from other project is allowed.

3. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.

4. The cover page should have the following information:

a. Name

b. Index number and ID

c. Title of task

e. Lecturers name

5. You should adhere to the deadline. Without an approved extension of time, late

submissions will be dealt with, severely.

MARKING CRITERIA

The tasks will be marked against the following marking criteria:

Task 1(a) Assessment focus on the amount of the relevancy of the materials selected to support the preparation and details of the portfolio.Task 1(b)- Assessment focus on the aspects of cooperation, writing the scripts, organization, choosing the drama, trainings and the final staging of the drama.

Task 1(c) Assessment focus on the aspects of how drama can be an effective approach to be used in an ESL Classroom.
