When the stream meanders so much it cuts off a section of the stream creating a lake

Floodplain

Flat areas on each side of the stream where extra water collects during floods

Alluvial Fan

Sediment carried by mountain stream deposits at the bottom when the water slows down due to shallow slopes

Delta

Rivers carry and then dump sediment into the ocean
