Dear Erin Mills MS Families,

As the school year ends, it is helpful to reflect upon the school year and our accomplishments. Together parents and staff have created a positive environment for middle school children to grow, learn and flourish. We are very proud of our classroom, physical education and arts programmes, all of which have led many exciting events and experiences for our students. Our Black History and Asian Heritage showcases, Education Week activities, COY programs, the unbelievable concert and performances are evidence that students are learning by being actively involved in school life. discrimination and violence towards the 2SLGTBQ+ community. This month provides a positive platform for members of the community to promote their self-affirmation, equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance.

Erin Mills Middle School will raise the pride flag for the month of June to support our 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Happy Pride Month!

We wish the school community a safe and wonderful summer. To our grade 8s, best wishes in secondary school. To our grade 6s and 7s, we look forward to seeing you in September. Time change is happening at EMMS for September 2018. The start time will be 8:10am and the end time 2:10pm. As well, next year a small change to lockers is happening … the school will be providing all locks for the lockers. The idea is to help with security and ensuring that all students have a place to put valuables and their belongings at school. More information to come in the coming weeks. Projected Enrolment for September Next year our projected enrolment at EMMS is 422 students in grade 6, 7, and 8. Our school will be staffed based on this enrolment. By the end of the first week of September 24

th, we must submit our student enrolment numbers to the

Superintendent. Any changes in student enrolment of 422, higher or lower, can result in a change in the number of teachers and homeroom classes. The week of the 26th is set aside to reorganize homeroom classes, should enrolment warrant it. Early in the year, students may change homerooms to reflect the increase or decrease in student enrolment. Re-organization is going to happen, so we encourage you to talk and prepare your child(ren) that this might not be the homeroom teacher for the year.

Please let us know if you have any questions and/or concerns. Sincerely, Maria Kalantzakos Principal June Awards Assembly Grade 6: Wednesday June 27 at 9:15 am Grade 7: Wednesday June 27 at 10:30 am Grade 8 awards will be given out at graduation on June 25. Photographs will be taken after the assembly.

Important changes coming to SafeArrival system in May 2018

Elementary parents are reminded to sign up for a Safe Arrival account in order to report a child's absence in a quick and easy manner. Set up your account by going to: go.schoolmessenger.ca and use the same email address the school has on file for you. You can also download the blue School Messenger App to your smartphone. If parents prefer not to set up an account, the toll-free number is always available for all families: 1-855-209-6155 A few things to note with our new system:

parents are encouraged to add the 1-855-209-6155 number to their Contacts (under PDSB or School Name) so the number can easily be identified when it calls

this new system will call once per child, therefore if you have three children absent at one time, you will receive three different phone calls

parents who set up an account can choose their preferences as to which numbers will be called

parents can report Late Arrivals by choosing the Report an Absence option first, then choosing Late Arrival in the sub-menu

As always, parents are encouraged to report absences in advance to the Safe Arrival system.
