Hailed as “the future of chamber music” (Strings), Brooklyn Rider offers eclectic repertoire in gripping performances that attract legions of fans and draw rave reviews from classical, world and rock critics alike. The group celebrated its 10th anniversary with the groundbreaking multi-disciplinary project Brooklyn Rider Almanac featuring 15 commissioned works, each inspired by a different artistic muse. This season, the quartet releases So Many Things with Anne Sofie von Otter, with music by Colin Jacobsen, Caroline Shaw, Nico Muhly, Björk, Kate Bush and Elvis Costello, among others.

Following performances at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, the quartet tours the US with choreographer Brian Brooks and former New York City Ballet prima ballerina Wendy Whelan, performing Some of a Thousand Words. Recent recordings include 2016’s The Fiction Issue with music by Gabriel Kahane, 2013’s A Walking Fire and The Impostor with Béla Fleck, and 2011’s Brooklyn Rider Plays Philip Glass.

Grammy winner Anne Sofie von Otter is one of today’s most recorded artists, with an unrivalled discography built across a career spanning more than three decades at the very top of the profession. A lengthy relationship with Deutsche Grammophon has produced a wealth of acclaimed recordings as well as a collaboration with pop legend Elvis Costello on For the Stars. Her most recent recording, Douce France, received a 2015 Grammy for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.  A busy concert schedule takes Anne Sofie to all corners of the globe, where she appears with the world’s leading conductors and orchestras. Current season plans include Geschwitz (Lulu) under Kent Nagano in a new production by Christoph Marthaler for Staastoper Hamburg, and Leonora (The Exterminating Angel) for the Royal Opera House Covent Garden written and conducted by Thomas Adès. Future plans include the principal role in Autumn Sonata, a new opera by Finnish composer Sebastian Fagerlund to be premiered in 2017, with a libretto based on the eponymous film by Ingmar Bergman. This ever-evolving repertoire has played a key role in sustaining Anne Sofie’s international reputation as an operatic force.
