Work Experience

Senior Programmer/Analyst12/2002 - Present Blood Systems, Scottsdale, Arizona Four years of extensive hands-on experience with Informatica PowerCenter 9.5.1 in

a unix-based environment using an Oracle database. Experienced with all of the standard PowerCenter tools: Designer, Workflow Manager, Workflow Monitor, and Repository Manager.

Currently developing Informatica extracts and ETL for the company’s new Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). The EDW is a large Oracle 12 database containing blood banking data from all of the company’s centers and affiliates nationwide.

Providing after-hours on-call data warehouse support 50% of the time. Performed extensive performance tuning, both in the query development and in

adding new indexes and/or partitioning to the tables. Maintained and enhanced the company's legacy data warehouse, a SQL Server database with a Sagent front end (Sagent is a data warehousing tool similar to Informatica). Improved and streamlined the ETL process to make it more reliable and efficient, developed many reports, and played a lead role in the migration to a new server and developing the ETL routines for the addition of data from an additional source database (Safetrace).

Developed reports incorporating data from other sources such as Haemonetics, LifeTrak, and SalesLogix.

Also developed several mission-critical Visual Basic applications and modified or enhanced a number of Oracle Financials reports (both Oracle Reports and Discoverer reports), and had some training in Crystal reports.

Took three Oracle exams for Associate Developer certification. Skills Used: Informatica PowerCenter 9.5.1, Oracle 9i through 12, SQL Server

2000 , 2008, and 2012, Oracle Reports, Oracle Discoverer, Toad, Microsoft Visual Basic, Unix and Windows scripts and cron jobs

Software Developer II3/2001 - 11/2002 The Apollo Group, Phoenix, AZ Enhanced and/or debugged numerous Pro*C programs, Oracle Forms, packages,

procedures, and scripts for the OSIRIS and Campus Tracking applications, including a number of major projects.

Was solely responsible for the development of the Duplicate Person form for the Campus Tracking program, a highly complex form that facilitates the correction and consolidation of multiple entries for the same person, a task that was previously very daunting to perform manually due to the database integrity constraints involved.

Also was responsible for the DS Attendance via the Web project, the Employer Marketing project, the Faculty Acknowledgement package, web_sql_pkg, and many others.

Was also responsible for maintaining the SQL Impact repository used to determine the impact of planned table and column changes.Skills Used: Oracle 8i and 9i (on Solaris platforms), Forms 5.0 and 6i, PL/SQL, Pro*C, TOAD, PL/SQL Developer, SQL*Plus, SQL Impact, Microsoft Visio (for database diagramming)

Developer12/1999 - 2/2001 Direct Marketing Services, Scottsdale, AZ Developed several complex Oracle Forms-based applications and associated stored

procedures. Also developed procedures and forms to produce reports in the form of .csv (comma-delimited text) files and to generate other data files to transmit to the client. Some of these are very complex reports and summaries requiring multiple packages, procedures, and summary tables.

Also developed a number of other related forms to view and/or update the data created by the main applications, as well as SQL*Loader scripts and cron-automated unix scripts to load the daily flat files into the tables. Some of the Forms applications also include Oracle reports allowing the operators to view or print the data they have entered.

Skills Used: Oracle 8 (on an AIX platform); Forms 5.0; Reports 3.0; PL/SQL, SQL*Plus; SQL Navigator Pro, TOAD

Senior Consultant8/1997 - 11/1999 NDC Health Information Services, Phoenix, AZ Played a significant role in the development and maintenance of multiple versions of

the Prescription Performance Program (P3) for several major clients. This entailed developing packaged procedures to process very large amounts of data from pharmacies nationwide on a monthly basis. Performance tuning was a critical aspect of the project.

Other responsibilities included training and mentoring new employees, including some management personnel, testing and modifying the programs for Y2K compliance, and assisting in the implementation of Oracle Reports in batch mode on the Sequent and Sun Unix servers.

One of the more significant challenges was the development of the distribution procedures that move data downloaded from the mainframe into the monthly shared repository tables used by all of the P3 programs (60 to 100 million rows per month).

Skills Used: Oracle 7.3 and 8; PL/SQL, SQL*Plus; Developer 2000 (Reports 2.5 and 3.01)

Senior Consultant11/1996 - 8/1997 Maritz, Fenton, MO Developed custom reports and other enhancements for Oracle Financials (AP, AR,

HR, and GL) and assisted in the upgrade from version 10.4 to version 10.6 and later to 10.7.

Developed a number of reports and PL/SQL scripts, a few SQL*Loader scripts, and two Oracle forms, one to allow users to e-mail the report files created when reports are printed and one to validate and transfer data into the Project Accounting interface table.

Actively participated in developing the work plan for the Oracle v10.6 upgrade. Also tracked down and corrected several serious database errors resulting from a bad sector on the production server's hard drive.

Skills Used: Oracle Financials 10.4, 10.6, and 10.7 (AP, AR, PO, GL, and HR); Developer 2000 (Reports 2.0 and 2.5, Oracle Forms 1.3 and 4.5); PL/SQL and SQL*Plus

Senior Analyst10/1993 - 11/1996 Applied Engineering and Planning Corporation (AEPCO), St. Louis, MO Acted as a Senior Analyst at the U.S. Army's Aviation and Troop Command

(ATCOM), developing and maintaining database applications in support of the Apache, Depot, Longbow and Maintenance Work Order (MWO) contracts.

Worked primarily with Oracle 7 in an HP-UNIX/X-Windows environment and occasionally using CA-Clipper 5.2 to develop and support programs used at ATCOM, the Corpus Christi Army Depot, Fort Hood in Killeen, TX, Hunter AAF in Savannah, GA, and numerous other locations.

Last principal project was a new Oracle 7 application which integrates portions of DAPOP (the Depot Automated Pilot Overhaul Program, a Clipper application which he developed) with data and reports from the M&O (Maintenance and Overhaul) programs, resulting in a program with more widespread network accessibility and more capabilities to serve a broader range of users. This was a very extensive application, composed of numerous forms and reports, along with several complex PL/SQL scripts for database updates. Some of these scripts are fully automated, running at the required times with no user intervention needed.

Served as a team leader during the development of the MWO program, extensively modified several Clipper applications for the MWO section, and developed a number of smaller programs to produce various cost analysis reports. Was solely responsible for the development of numerous Clipper and dBASE programs, some network-compatible.

Primary project was the Depot Automated Pilot Overhaul Program (DAPOP), in use at ATCOM, at the Corpus Christi Army Depot in Texas, and at DESCOM in Pennsylvania. DAPOP was an extensive network-compatible Clipper application incorporating data from a number of ATCOM sources, including the Commodity Command Standard system (CCSS), the Maintenance Data Management System (MDMS), Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWRs), and the Federal Logistics system (Fedlog), among others. It makes this information more easily accessible and summarizes overhaul requirements and transition plans in the form of bar charts and user-definable custom tailored reports.

Skills Used: Oracle 7; Forms 3.0 and 4.0; Reports 1.0 and 2.0; PL/SQL; SQL*Plus; Clipper (5.1 and 5.2); dBASE IV

Programmer10/1989 - 10/1993 DynCorp, St. Louis, MO Developed the original Clipper version of DAPOP (described above) during this time.

Also maintained the LAN for the Depot Maintenance Plant Equipment (DMPE) section.

Another important program that was developed during this time is the 2410 data entry program. Operators enter data from 2410s, which are forms used to report overhauls. Wherever possible, these entries are checked for errors or duplications during entry. The files were then copied from the PCs to the Directorate for Maintenance's Sperry mini computer, where they were rechecked and incorporated into the master 2410 database. This program has played a significant role in reducing the data error rate from its previous level of 13 to 18% to approximately 0.001%.

Skills Used: Clipper (Summer '87); dBASE III+; Harvard Graphics; Lotus 1-2-3

EducationUniversity of Missouri-Rolla, St. Louis, MO Undergraduate and graduate coursework in Computer Science.

St. Louis Community College, St. Louis, MO
