Dear Mr. Douglas:
You were nice enough to offer to give to us various varieties of coin changers and coin rejectors which your company made, or which you have. I believe these will be most interesting for the Museum we are establishing in the Mercantile Tower.
When you do come downtown, perhaps you should try to do it somewhere around noon so at least I can take you to lunch. I work at Edison Brothers Stores, Inc., 400 Washington Avenue, St. Louis, MO, telephone 444-6525.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Eric P. Newman

Attention: Mr. Johnson
Dear Mr. Johnson:
We are very sincerely appreciative of the group of coin acceptors and coin changers which you were kind enough to donate to our collection. I am satisfied that when these are on exhibit the public will be very interested in them.
After reading your description of them and looking at their intricate parts I can fully appreciate the thought and engineering
which goes into their development.
I am sure that many people after seeing your equipment will begin to understand what goes on inside a vending machine.
Thank you again for your kindness and cooperation.
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Newman:
With the March issue, COINS magazine's format is being expanded to 64 pages. We feel this is a step for¬
ward and hope to be able to present to our readers a larger variet^of higher quality reading material.
You have a great deal of numismatic knowledge that could help our readers a lot. We are looking for articles on almost every numismatic subject from six to seven thousand words in length which can be rather profusely illustrated. Although we do not try to sell COINS on the
basis of its educational content, this is what we are trying to get to the public; educational material in a highly readable, enjoyable form.
Our word rate is one cent with up to five dollars for original photographs.
Please let me hear from you on this. I hope the idea of writing for COINS will interest you and if there are any further questions in your mind, I will do my best to answer them.
Sincerely

Gentlemen:
Thank you for asking me to write some material for your enlarged Coins Magazine* I am quite overburdened in writing long hair material so that I cannot produce anything original for you at the present* However, there is something of mine which has been published in the past which had a very limited circulation and might be a good item to reprint.
Would you be nice enough to send me a copy of your magazine and indicate the size of the format and type of paper of the hew issue so that 1 could see if my suggestion is appropriate,
I, personally, will not accept any money or any¬ thing but if you want to contribute to this foundation for researoh you could do so*
We look forward to receiving a sample of your publication.
Sincerely yours.

Dear Les:
I have now spoken to each of the three individuals named in your letter of July 12 whose terms expire on the ANS Council in January, 1987. I am happy to report to you that all three of them, Mr. Harry W. Bass, Jr., Prof. Glen W. Bowersock, and Mrs. Margo Russell, have agreed to serve a full additional term on the Council if they are elected by their colleague
By copies of this letter I am informing my fellow nominating committee Council members, John D. Leggett, Jr. and Eric P. Newman.
As I told you, Les, I will be in Europe on the date of the October ANS Council meeting, hence regrettably I cannot attend. I hope this letter
will serve as my report to the Council in lieu of my actual attendance at that meeting.
I am very pleased that Messrs. Bowersock and Bass and Mrs. Russell have agreed to continue on with their valuable services to the ANS.
Sincerely,

Dear Eric:
First, I would like to thank you for signing my books, they
will become a cherished part of my collection. Also, as per your
request, they are currently on the way to Ken Bressett for his
signature. I could not send them sooner because Ken was very busy
with the current edition of the Guide Book.
Since our previous correspondence, I have seen several
articles that mentioned your involvement with the 1913 V-nickel.
It was interesting reading, and it must have been an amazing
experience. Some day I would love to be able to read your
correspondence regarding the 1913 V-nickels, and your experiences
in the coin industry.
I am sorry that I did not realize how many books you had
been involved in, perhaps I will be able to obtain some others
for your signature. In the meantime, I wish you the best and hope
fm- manv years of correspondence.

Dear Jim and Russ:
Many thanks for your two price lists. Our library would be incomplete without them.
I am glad that you agree that the copper composition 1776 Continental Currency coinage is dollars only and that the inconsistent news article to the contrary is ridiculously inaccurate.
I hope you can locate the Denly list for me.

Gentle men:
I note, with great interest, on your list of coins to be auctioned, that you have what you believe to be an 1803 proof restrike dollar. 1 would very much like to study it and wonder if you would be kind enough to send it to me for exam¬ ination, or, if you have a photograph of it, to send the photograph.
I might introduce myself by saying that I wrote the book "The Fantastic 180U Dollar” in which the matter of the 1803 proof dollars is thoroughly discussed, including detailed pictures with re¬ spect to them.
May I hear from you on this matter?
Sincerely yours.

Gentlemen:
Many years ago (1962) we loaned your museum some items and they were duly returned. At that time I inquired whether you could sell or exchange any duplicate of the Companie De Scioto notes.
Now I am preparing a book which will list these notes and I need a picture of one of them. Do you have such a picture? A fine xerox would serve as well.
Naturally, if you have any duplicate you could part with, we can exchange items which will fit into your collection.
May I hear from you?
