Whats up with the big budget Rajini-starrerEnthiran? There is good eight months for
director Shankars magnum opus movie to release
but every fortnight there are stills of the moviebeing leaked on the net.The latest set of five stills shows the Superstar onthe sets with stunt director Peter Hein and Shankar. But, unlike the previous leaks, this one only raisesmore doubts on what exactly is the actors role.Rumours are rife that the Superstar plays a dual role one of a scientist and that of a robot. While theinitial set of pictures showed Rajini romancing Ashin Machu Picchu, the current set has a more rigidor the Star Wars looks, which only makes onewonder about Enthirans storyline. The initial leaks saw the director getting red andsuspending a few assistants. In fact, Shankar hadwarned action on the mischief-monger. But, withat least three sets of stills releasing so far, it makesone wonder if it is a publicity stunt.

Brush
with fame
The kittens like playing soccer
with ping-pong balls. The pup-pies are happy to crowd around
you and give you celebrity treat-ment. The adult dogs wag their tails
until you start to worry they mightfall off. Its an unconventional way toentertain oneself over the weekendand bring in a whole lot of joy tomany eager animals that want noth-ing more than a little human affec-tion.
Your company is top priority ofcourse, but they wont say no to apure vegetarian snack either. Theyprefer very simple foods like bread, milk and plain biscuits (chocolate ispoisonous to animals, so please becareful about that and when indoubt, settle for good old Marie bis-cuits) and most of them can be handfed.
If youre going as a group and foodquantities are large, it helps to in-
form the shelter in advance so theycan ensure that nothing is wasted. Asfor toys, odds and ends like shoe lac-es, a tiny ball of string, table tennis orbouncing balls and frisbees are theirfavourites. Steer clear of chokinghazards like marbles that are espe-cially dangerous around kittens.
Please remember to take somephotographs, preferably with you inthe frame and send them [email protected]. The pictures couldeven be taken with a mobile phonecamera as long as they are of highresolution (file size of 300 kb orabove). Well feature the best of them
with credit in next Thursdays issue.Have an awesome weekend!

The Chennai sky has no place foramateurs. The founding membersof the Madras Flying Club, estab-lished in 1930, will be horrified to
see the changed scenario.Back then there was a red-clay run-
way and flying was a weekend recre-ation. Only because of this club theMadras Airport was built here, we aretheir forefathers. But now we havebeen pushed to the farthest corner, says Captain Sebastian Joseph, honor-
ary secretary of the club.Unlike those days, the club hardlysees any amateurs flying or hobby fly-ing by enthusiasts.
The spiralling cost of flying and redtapism make it difficult for flyers to takeoff just for the fun of it, says a veteranand chief flying instructor N.K. Singh.
Flying highKeeping with the changing times the
club has found itself a new job. Today,it is the only recognised centre in TamilNadu to train and certify budding pi-lots. Armed with three Cessna-152, oneCessna-172 and two Indian made Han-sa III, the club is currently issuingCommercial Pilot Licences to at least
60 students every year. Costing approx-imately Rs. 12.5 lakh and running overtwo and half years, the course is abso-lutely must for anybody who wants toget into the aviation sector as pilots. But the whole thing though comes witha catch.
The boys are getting trained in two
or four-seater non-pressurised air-crafts, but there are no jobs in the seg-ment. As a transport or cargo pilot you
will be flying mostly Airbuses or Boe-ing, but none of the flying schools inIndia, including ours, have those facil-ities, explains Captain Joseph, who isan Airbus instructor with state carrier
Indian. Apart from Indian and Jetnone of the other carriers in India havetraining facilities in the country. So thestudents end up going abroad andspending more to get some valuableflight time on the two aircrafts.
Ground rulesTo get a commercial license from the
Director General of Civil Aviation(DGCA) a pilot needs to have minimum200 hours of flight time and over 100hours of solo including cross-countryand night flying experience.
Cross country is a difficult proposi-
tion in Chennai due to the constant airtraffic pressure. So for the last few yearswe have moved to Vellore and use theairstrip there, says N.K. Singh.
A Private Pilot Licence (PPL) can alsobe acquired at the club after complet-ing 50 hours of flying including 20hours of solo, but there are not manytakers. Costing Rs. 5,000 per hour offlying, the PPL will arm you with thepower to fly anywhere with anyone aslong as you have an airplane at yourdisposal. Here also the club is ready tocome to your help and you can chartera two-seater Cessna-152 for Rs. 6,000 ora four-seater Cessna-172 for Rs.8,000(per hour).
It is one of the oldest flying institutes in India, but a number offactors make it difficult for enthusiasts to take off

As dusk falls on Cambodiascapital, security guards atthe Tuol Sleng genocidemuseum huddle together
at the ticket office to protectthemselves from ghosts.
At night, we can see a blackshadow walking, says Kim Sok, a25-year-old guard at the mu-seum, which served as the mainprison for the 1975 to 1979 KhmerRouge regime. We just stay closetogether so we can take care ofeach other.
Here, at prison code-namedS-21 under the supervision of for-mer mathematics teacher KaingGuek Eav, alias Duch, more than
15,000 prisoners were torturedbefore being hauled to a killingfield on the outskirts of PhnomPenh.
After the UN-backed KhmerRouge war crimes tribunal beganon Tuesday to try Duch forcrimes against humanity and warcrimes, nowhere seems as haunt-ed as his notorious former prison.
Belief in spirits is widespreadthroughout Cambodia and thereis particular fear of those whodied violently without a properBuddhist burial.
Consisting of four buildingsand a dusty field, Tuol Sleng wasa high school until the KhmerRouge made it the centre of a net-
work of 70 prisons throughoutthe country.
Documents at Tuol Sleng re-veal leaders ordered suspectedenemies of the regime to betortured into signing statementsthat they were agents of the CIA,KGB and of neighbouring Viet-
nam. When I arrived here, Ifound lots of bloodstains, hand-
cuffs and spools of string in thehouse. I realised that they werefor torture, says Sokha, a 55-
year-old homemaker whosehome is next to Tuol Sleng.
Cambodians who work at the
museum or live nearby say theplace will remain haunted until
the regimes leaders arepunished.

A dress that can be worn in 100 different ways
Buy one, get 99 free!
Afashion designer has created a
unique dress, named Zipper, which he claims can be worn in100 different ways, an innovationhailed as the ultimate outfit inthe wake of the global finan-
cial meltdown. In fact, thehandmade black and silverdress is made of 120separate zips that can beadded, removed or par-tially undone to createendless possibilities it canbe adapted to create any-thing from a belt to a full-length evening outfit. Theneckline, dress length andsleeve length are all easily ad-justable.
And by removing zips fromthe middle of the outfit it caneven become a two-piece mini-skirt and crop-top, The Daily Tel-egraph reported. The dress wasinfluenced by the constant chang-es and demands that fashion es-tablishes every season. The idea
was to create a single dress that couldeasily be reconstructed over and over
again to comply with hundreds ofvariations. The Zipper dress can beadapted from a full-length night
dress, to a t-shirt, a miniskirt or
even a belt. Each one of them can beeither separated from the
rest of the dress or opento play and reveal layers or
skin beneath.I believe the concept is par-
ticularly poignant in the currenteconomic crisis because you canbuy one dress and get a hundreddifferent fashion possibilities, de-
signer Sebastian Errazuriz was quot-ed as saying.
The 31-year-old designer is current-ly in talks with developers about put-ting the dress into mass productionso it can be sold at a reasonable price. He has held 40 exhibitions, includingshows in Tokyo, New York and Paris.

India is so behind schedulethat it will take a miracle forNew Delhi to host the Com-monwealth Games in 2010.
Budgets are skyrocketing and theinfrastructure is coming up at asnails pace for the four-yearlyGames to be held in the Indiancapital from October 3-14 next
year. What is actually needed for it
to materialise without us embar-
rassing ourselves, is a miracle. And even more money, a reportsaid. What we face is a raceagainst time. The ambitious air-port project is facing a cashcrunch. Roads and flyovers that
were to be completed by 2008have hit a dead-end. The venuesare officially 40 percent com-plete, but walk by them and all
you can see is a mess. The report added that a con-
tractor had yet to be found toconstruct a flyover near theGames village, and work on theelevated corridor connecting thevillage to the main stadium hadbarely begun. And even if it allsomehow works out, theres thatother big question. How on earth
will we pay for the Games? it
asked. Government figures esti-mate an expenditure of US$ 1.5billion, up from the original bud-get of US$ 800 million, on spruc-ing up New Delhi with newinfrastructure and stadia.
The report took a swipe at Indi-an Olympic Association chief Su-resh Kalmadi for suggesting thatmoney earned through suchmeans as sponsorship and TVrights will be returned to the go-
vernment. Its a promise the go-vernment might hold him to andits also one he might find diffi-cult to keep, the report said.Even before the global economicdownturn happened, sponsors
were wary. Now, its muchworse.
The economic slowdown hasalready forced the Games Villagebuilder to ask for a bailout fromthe government, the report stat-ed. It is feared that New Delhimay face the same fate as Mon-treal, which passed on the expen-diture incurred for the 1976Olympics to the citys tax-payers.At this point, in election year, nogovernment will talk of levyingany cess (extra tax) in future forthe Games, it said. But history
has shown us it is a very real sibility that we, the taxpamight well foot the bill for Indbiggest show.
Kalmadi said last month heconfident New Delhi would a successful Games which feature some 8,500 athletes f71 nations drawn from the Cmonwealth. Most of the intructure would be readyDecember, he said. F

If 2009 saw the U.S. get-ting its first colouredPresident then F1 can al-so brace up to see its first female driver
during the next season. An American teamis at last taking the F1 plunge and will beracing from next year, IndyCar driver andSports Illustrated cover girl Danica Patrickis a candidate to fill one of the two driverseats.
USF1, which will be officially unveiled onFebruary 24, will have a staff of around 100, abudget of US$ 99 million and an aim to puttwo American drivers on the starting grid. The
team is looking at testing a number of candi-dates, including the 26-year-old Danica.Shes great. She gets a lot of press, USF1
technical director Ken Anderson said. I dontknow if its something she wants to do. Wed cer-tainly love to test her and go from there.
The others in the fray include Nascar driver ScottSpeed, who raced 28 times for F1 team Toro Rossofrom 2006-07. The team will be based in Charlotte,North Carolina, and is looking for a secondary base inEurope, most likely sharing Epsilon Euskadis head-quarters in northern Spain.
If Danica gets behind the F1 wheel it maygive the very-expensive motorsport a life-line which has been reeling under reces-sion with officials and teams takingeffective cost cutting measures.
Any layman can dictate that anall-new American grand prix team
would go all out to have the 26-year-olds name etched on their driverslist for pure financial reasons. Dan-icas debut Indycar victory at Mote-gi, Japan, in April last year broke thegreat fairer-sex myth and gaveprofessional motorsport its first fe-male icon.
Formula One earlier hadtried a female competitor in1992 but Giovanna Amati hadfailed to qualify in threeattempts. Experts hopeDanica will have bettersuccess rate.

Four years ago, I got my riding jacket (leather) cus-tom-made from a dealer in Periyamedu for Rs. 2,600. Ithas proved good during rough rides including nippyweather, avers the biker.
But Ranga says that the jacket doesnt have ade-quate padding to withstand a fall. If you are lookingfor thorough safety on road, one should make no com-promise but must shell out those big bucks and get thebranded riding gear that comes with good padding, adds the biker who bought his Fieldsheer riders pantsfrom the U.S.
Shop hereAn array of leather shops in Periyamedu, opposite
Jawaharlal Nehru Football Stadium, deal with riderjackets, pants and gloves. Customers may not be ableto find readymade riding clothing, but full riding suits, padded jackets and gloves can be stitched according tothe clients requirements upon prior order, says Mo-hammed Suhail, a leather dealer in Periamedu.
Besides Periamedu, St. Thomas Mount is anotherplace where one can get some customised jackets. Those who prefer premium readymade riding gear cantry Indian brand Cramster, which is available at theDollars and Pounds store in Adyar. Cramster has anexclusive store in Cunningham Road, Bangalore.
One can also try their luck for riding gear at KasiChetty Street in Sowcarpet.

Brad Pitt and AngelinaJolie will join an exclu-sive club when theystep out at the Oscars

But while the coupleshould add a high-voltage joltof old-fashioned Hollywoodglamour to the Oscars redcarpet, history suggests thatthe duo is likely to finish thenight empty-handed.

One of the few acting couples to have tasted success onOscar night were Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner. Sinatra

Win or lose at Sundays Oscar ceremony, British actressKate Winslet will enter Academy Award history.
Winslet, 33, will either walk past her chief rival, MerylStreep, to collect her first Oscar for her performance as a
woman with a secret Nazi past in The Reader, or share the du-bious title of biggest loser for having been nominated for thecoveted honor, and lost, six times.
The betting in Hollywood ahead of the Feb. 22 ceremony forthe worlds top film awards is that Winslet should be getting her
acceptance speech ready.I think it is her time. When Academy members are voting, they
are going to be thinking not just ofThe Readerbut ofRevolutionaryRoad, said Hollywood.com movie critic Pete Hammond, when
talking about the two movies starring Winslet that were re-leased within weeks of each other in 2008.
That is pretty daunting when you have two greatperformances like that back to back, Hammond
said.
The three other best actress nomineesare Anne Hathaway as a resentful sisterin Rachel Getting Married, Melissa
Leo in border smuggling dramaFrozen River and Angelina Jolie
playing a mother searchingfor her child in Changeling.
Winslet, who parlayedart house success into
international star-dom in Titanic in
1997, has alreadypicked up twoGolden Globesfor her role asa German
woman with ateenage lover and
a secret in The Reader
and as a frustrated 1950sAmerican housewife in Rev-olutionary Road.
She has also won BAFTA andScreen Actors Guild Awards, and in
emotional speeches, she has expressedshock at her wins after smiling bravely from
her seat so often in the past.Kate is way overdue. One more loss and she will
be tied at six as Oscars biggest losing actress withDeborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter. And at the ageof 33, that would be terrible, said Tom ONeil ofawards website TheEnvelope.com.
Kate has a solid lead. She is in a Holocaustmovie, speaking with a foreign accent, she agesdramatically and she looks great naked allkey elements for a win, he said.
