1. CELEBRATION NAME: beginning of the school year

DATE: 01/09

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The first day of the school year is always festive event. We have the whole school assembly where the pupils of Year 1 get

there first school book Aabits (ABC book) and their school cap. After that we have class teacher’s lesson. Pupils always bring

flowers to their teachers.

2. CELEBRATION NAME: St Michael’s Day

DATE: 29/09

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

In folk calendar by St Michael’s Day the field labour had to be done and the women’s work started. We celebrate that day

with exhibition. Children bring different vegetables and fruit, they make salads. Pupils usually have a Michael’s day run –

they have different tasks which are all about nature.

3. CELEBRATION NAME: Teachers’ Day

DATE: 05/10

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

On that day “teachers” are Year 11 pupils from Kose Gümnaasium. The material for the lessons is prepared by our teachers.

At the end of the day we have an assembly where pupils and young “teachers” give feedback. At the same time our teachers

have different activities.

4. CELEBRATION NAME: Father’s Day

DATE: second Sunday in November

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

Kindergarten children usually have a party with their fathers. Pupils have a sport event – different competitions with fathers.

5. CELEBRATION NAME: St Martin’s Day DATE: 10/11

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

On the eve of St Martin’s Day children disguise themselves as men and go from door to door, singing songs and

telling jokes to receive sweets.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

At school we have Christmas parties where pupils get a present from Father Christmas. At home children wait for Father

Christmas on Christmas Eve – to get their presents they have to sing and read a rhyme.

8. CELEBRATION NAME: Independence Day of Estonia DATE: 24/02

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

At school we have a concert. 24 February is a free day and children are at home, they can watch the parade.

In 2018 we will celebrate the 100th birthday of Estonia.

9. CELEBRATION NAME: Day of Estonian Language DATE: 14/03

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

14 March if the birth date of Kristjan Jaak Peterson. He was the first Estonian writer who wrote in Estonian language. We

have events during the whole week. Every year a writer comes to our school and talks to children. We have different

competitions (beautiful handwriting, quizzes etc).

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

We have a free day on Good Friday. Children dye eggs on Sunday.

We are happy to tell you something about regular and annual activities which take place at our school of

Dana and Emil Zatopek, Trinec, The Czech Republic.

Ski course for elementary pupils

Our school is focused on sports that is why we do a lot of sport activities. One of them is

Skiing with Little Martin for learners at the age of seven to nine. The course takes one week in in February or March and it is

placed in the Beskydy Mountains. Children use movable belt for getting up the slope. They are divided into small groups

according to their skills. Ski competition takes place last day, but each participant wins as they get a Ski certificate and a toy.

Children learn how to ski and they are motivated for this sport later.

Carnival Carnival takes place every February. Children wear various funny masks and go to the fancy dressing party. The best mask gets

prize. There are also other competitions like – Best dancer, Best singer, Best flute player and so. Children also enjoy eating their

favourite biscuits, cakes and crisps.

Easter fair for parents and children

What is this?

All pupils make various Easter stuff like coloured eggs, paper flowers, baskets, and bunnies. Then they sell them at the fair. The

money received is spent on class excursion. Parents buy their craft to support their children.

Earth Day

In the morning children start in differnt groups accross the school. This way pupil of different age have opportunity to meet

each other. They implement various goals concerning our planet. This year we dealt with woter issue. We had to look for

various waterfalls, rivers, lakes and so. We work with PC and iPods and learn about their length, width, depth etc. We also

learn about how rain, storm and snow develops. We also did a few experiments, excercised in the gym pretending floods, drew

posters and many others. The best pupils got some sweet from their teachers.

English week

English week is an intensive one-week course with tachers from the local language school including native speakers and aims to

improve children ´s pronunciation and communicative skills. The teaching method are funnier, easy-going and children like the

time with their English teachers. After the course, they feel more confident and motivated to use English during the holiday

abroad, for example.

Excursion to Planetarium, Ostrava

In spring all children from 5th grade visit Planetarium in Ostrava. They listen to lecture by a universe specialist on stars and The

Solar system. After that they watch a film about the Universe and if the weather is suitable they can watch the stars through an

astronomical telescope.

Children’s´ Day

International Children´s Day is celebrated all over the world on 1st June. During this event there are sport and entertaining

activities at our school.

This year there was also afternoon for children and their parents called Little Earthworms´ Day. It was because of gumdrops of a

worm shape which had been hidden all over the school garden. Children looked for them, played various games, competitions

and finally they discovered a treasure – a big bag of candies!

Meanwhile parents enjoyed themselves having barbecue and working in the garden- weeding, raking the lawn, and trimming

the shrubs and so on.

Chotebuz – exkursion to archeopark

Each sixth class takes an excursion to local theme archeopark, Chotebuz. We like it very much as we travel by train. We take a

guided tour around the area and we can see and learn a lot about history.
