More Production with Less FuelEnormous power teams up with swift movement to bring you more profi ts.

EFFICIENCY

A tight schedule and high production target which are by no means rare in large-scale

construction projects and quarries require lasting high performance out of an excavator.

To address such requirements, Hitachi optimizes the machine's performance in an all-

round way to accelerate its operation speed, thus ensuring a profi table return on the

customer's investment on the excavator. Therefore, understandably, it's these advantages

that set Hitachi apart as customers choose among large excavators in the market.

Thanks to its new hydraulic system, the new ZAXIS470LCH, compared with the conventional

one, enjoys a 11% rise in arm digging force, 10% in bucket digging force and 11% in boom's

lifting capacity. Besides, swing torque increases by 8% and traction force 3% with the help of the

new swing device and new travel mechanism.

The 2.1 m3 rock bucket (BE: 2.3 m3) is the standard equipment, with a 2.3m3 light-duty bucket (BE: 2.7m3) as an optional. Adoption of the LC-type undercarriage, as well as the improvement in operation speed and digging force, provides stable technical support for the expansion of the bucket capacity. The machine's superior effi ciency speaks for itself in applications involving heavy dumping or loading operation.

By using the multifunction monitor, the operator can switch valves, adjust reserve circuit fl ow and check various settings. Furthermore, as many as 11 items including fl ow setting can be easily selected by identifying their names.

With its brand-new HIOS IIIB hydraulic system, ZAXIS470LCH minimizes pressure loss, speeds up the attachment's movements, thus producing more with less time. Whether for digging or loading operation, the machine can be operated easily with fast and smooth combination of movements. The swelling of hydraulic circuit fl ow signifi cantly expedites light-duty operations.

Enhanced boom recirculation system: in combined operations involving lowering of the boom and movements of the arm, the arm can move 15% faster (vs. ZAXIS450H). This system also enables effi cient combined operations of lowering of the boom and swinging.

Hydraulic Boosting System: in combined operations involving rolling out of the arm, the variable throttle valve installed in the arm circuit will adjust fl ows when hydraulic loss needs to be restrained, thereby signifi cantly speeding up the rolling out of the arm.

New bucket recirculation system: in combined operations involving digging, swift bucket movements can be realized through the new bucket recirculation circuit.

New Hydraulic System

The new HIOS IIIB hydraulic system and engine control system make a perfect combination for minimizing pressure loss in the hydraulic system, thus raising the energy utilization rate and operation effi ciency, as well as lowering fuel consumption. In addition, high-durability parts bring down the operation cost even further. Compared with the conventional ZAXIS450H model, the new fuel effi ciency is substantially elevated. Under the P mode, the machine's production rate increases by 2% with fuel consumption lowered by 9%, while under the H mode, the fuel consumption drops by as much as 21% just at a slight cost of 4% reduction in production rate.

DURABILITY

Harsh conditions for large-scale projects pose a great challenge to the machine, thus excellent reliability is required to ensure lasting uncompromised performance. With powerful technical support, Hitachi ZAXIS large excavators are always ready to provide customers with solutions for all kinds of applications. With multiple reinforcing designs added and strengths drawn on from the conventional model, ZAXIS470LCH excavators are enabled to perform steadily in tough conditions.

The new undercarriage features a robust LC-type all-welded structure, improving rigidity and stability of the undercarriage as a whole. In addition, multiple reinforcing designs enable the machine to deal with various demanding environment. Compared with the conventional ZAXIS450H, each track link of the new model is extended and thickened; the main pin for each link is stamped to avoid disengagement; the bearing length of the idler frame increases by approx. 67%; the idler frame is thickened to prevent deformation; the thickness of upper rollers' bracket is raised and its strength reinforced.

The 4-stroke direct injection engine features a mechanical fuel feeding method, making it almost impossible to have malfunctions caused by impurities even on sites where fuel management is diffi cult, thereby effectively shortening downtime. What is more, the combination of a direct fuel injection system and a fi nely-made speed governor provides a solid technical foundation for the machine's environmental performance. A large fan and fan defl ector help to suppress the noise in the engine compartment, and the relatively low engine speed is also conducive to bringing down the noise level of the whole machine.

The front attachment retains the high-durability HH-reinforced design featured in the precedent machine: thickened plates, as well as internally-welded and all-welded methods, greatly improve welding strength and effectively lowering the possibility of cracking welding joints in the case of continuous heavy-duty operations. Cushions mounted at the end of retraction strokes of the boom, arm and bucket cylinders effectively suppress noise and vibration, and extend service life.

The upperstructure employs a D-section frame structure with edges reinforced to improve rigidity. Balls in the swing bearing are increased, raising its loading capacity by approx. 6% to ensure smooth swinging.

COMFORT AND SAFETY

It is important for operator to carry out work comfortably and safely, especially in long work shifts as often required in applications such as quarries or large-scale construction site. For the benefi ts of these operators, the R&D staff of Hitachi, based on the science of ergonomics, make relentless efforts in optimizing the design while keeping the ZAXIS's existing advantages so as to enable the operator to fully enjoy the fun of operation.

The monitor and door are redesigned and repositioned, not only broadening visibility, but also making it more convenient to get in and out of the cab. Besides, the rear view camera further expands visibility, consolidates security and raises operation effi ciency.

ZAXIS470LCH's cab meets an OPG top guard to protect the operator from falling objects. An engine start mechanism with a neutral position is incorporated to the pilot control shut-off lever, so that the engine can start only when the lock lever is at the "lock" position, thus eliminating the risk of unexpected machine starting due to accidental contacts.

As a standard feature, the air suspension seat boasts excellent vibration damping performance. With its back adjustable in inclination, the seat can also slide back and forth according to the operator's physique, thereby minimizing operators' fatigue. Its door pillar is shifted backward by 70 mm, which means more spacious entrance. The seat can slide backwards more than 40 mm, leaving more space for legs.

The new multi-function monitoring system comprises a 7-inch high-resolution color monitor and a multi-function controller. Machine condition and settings can be checked via the monitor. Menu items can be selected and adjusted on the control panel by using the multi-function controller. As many as 32 languages are supported. A new rear view camera always displays the view behind the machine.

EASY MAINTENANCE

In order to maximize the production rate and ensure the excavator can deliver the best performance on any demanding sites such as quarries, etc., we have introduced a variety of fast solutions for maintenance work. The various convenient features incorporated in ZAXIS470LCH make the customer better able to focus on the work at hand, and thereby the customer can make full use of his/her Hitachi excavator.

The 705L large capacity fuel tank lays the hardware foundation for long time operation.Replacement intervals for oils: 500 h for engine oil and oil filters, 4 000 h for hydraulic oil, 1 000 h for hydraulic oil fi lter elements and 500 h for fuel fi lters.

Enabling remote maintenance management through online access of machine information, the onboard "e-Service Owner's site" assisted by a powerful information network, has led preventive maintenance management to a new era of electronic information.

The multi-function monitor can be utilized to fast and effi ciently manage the machine's maintenance information. Service points for drainage from the fuel tank and replacing fi lters, etc. concentrate inside the left and right covers which are readily accessible from the ground. The interior air fi lter is located at back of the cab door.

Greasing points on the arm and boom are clustered to expedite greasing by using an electric greasing gun attached to a hose reel.An air pre-cleaner is equipped as a standard feature to remove large particles from air at the initial stage, effectively protecting the air fi lter and extending its service life, and making maintenance more convenient and effi cient.
