Your machines generate data every day. However, all that data might not be utilized to its fullest potential and it could be stranded on your machine. Unlocking this stranded data could be the key to improving your service operations or to increasing revenue. But to do so, you need a complete solution from a partner that understands both your machines and your data.

As a technological innovator and one of the world’s largest OEMs, GE has the expertise, experience and vast installed base to harness the power of today’s digital transformation — ever-expanding computing power, ubiquitous connectivity and the cloud — and put it to work for our OEM customers. A world-class leader in developing and deploying advanced control systems and software, GE can help you access your stranded data and translate it into actions—and revenue.

In today’s world of connected machines, turning your machine data into actionable information can optimize operations and keep you ahead of your competitors.

OEM Challenges in the World of Connected MachinesThe Industrial Internet has revolutionized business practices and processes. Machine OEMs and their customers understand the importance and value of machine data. But gathering, organizing and using that data in a way that provides value and improves outcomes can be a challenge.

End users often have fewer maintenance personnel than in years past, and the increasingly complicated automation found in today’s machines make it difficult, if not impossible, for plant maintenance personnel to effectively diagnose issues.

In today’s increasingly competitive and fast-moving business environment, customers are demanding more from machine OEMs—more insight into how machines impact their operations, better reliability and enhanced service offerings.

However, expensive, complicated, and rapidly changing technology can make it difficult for machine OEMs to provide the insight, service and reliability their customers demand to stay competitive.

Of customers said they have a talent gap for gathering and consolidating disparate data

Of industrial companies believe it’s important to adopt an Industrial Internet of Things Strategy the next over the next 5 years

Of industrial companies indicate big data analytics is the TOP priority for their company, or in the top 3

Create a Digital Service CapabilityWith the preconfigured and scalable Equipment Insight solution, OEMs can better understand how customers use their machines, while helping their users optimize asset performance, processes and profitability.

The Equipment Insight solution quickly and cost-effectively transforms raw data into actionable information. It aligns the state of the customer asset with its health. Alerts, analysis, and key performance indicator (KPI) data is used to improve asset availability and optimize equipment via better maintenance insight.

Improve Uptime• Improve visibility into installed equipment performance and

    asset utilization

    • Improve asset availability and reduce time-to-repair

    • Improve machine design with actual usage data

Improve Profitability for Growing Revenues and Reducing CostsEquipment Insight helps OEMs offer differentiated solutions and create new revenue-generating service models such as data monitoring services and preventative maintenance contracts. This in turn builds deeper relationships between OEMs and their customer by allowing them to help predict problems, schedule preventative maintenance, and quickly and efficiently respond to problems.

Grow Service Revenues• Sell new monitoring & preventative maintenance

    service contracts

    • Capture increased parts and repair revenue

    • Increase share of retrofit/repeat business

    • Differentiate from competition

Equipment Insight helps OEMs quickly address customer issues by delivering the right information to the right person, wherever they are, on any device. Services capacity utilization and time-to-repair are improved as critical information is delivered to service people assigned to cases. Once an issue is identified, either end users, service personnel, or a collaboration of both can capture asset status, project details, and known asset issues via text, pictures or video for faster solution delivery. Having actionable information enables OEMs to proactively schedule maintenance a to reduce risk. OEMs benefit from better, more efficient service operations while end users get fast, effective resolution of process issues.

Reduce Costs• Reduce compliance and warranty risk

    • Reduce risk on performance guarantee contracts

    • Improve services capacity utilization and improve time-to-serve

    • Reduce software development and maintenance overhead costs

    • Save costs on IT infrastructure and systems

    • Improve machine designs to eliminate sources of failure

    • Deploy service personnel more effectively

    • Reduce overhead costs

Simply, Securely and Cost-Effectively Collect and Transmit Machine DataSecure Data CollectionThe Equipment Insight solution collects OEM equipment data using secure Field Agent* technology, with solutions for both greenfield and brownfield installations. The data is buffered to protect against network outages, encrypted and transmitted to, and verified using:

    • X.509 Certificate based Authentication

    • Wi-Fi configuration AP is protected by WPA or WPA2 authentication

    • TLS/SSL enabled protocols are used for cloud communication on the WAN and configuration browser client on the LAN and WLAN

    • No listening ports on the Field Agent*

    • An optional 4G LTE interface provides access where end user networks or public infrastructure aren’t available

    • Outcome optimizing control option available using embedded field agent for data collection

Affordable, Simple IntegrationGE’s Equipment Insight solution is hosted on Predix*, GE’s Industrial IoT Platform, and is offered as a subscription-based service. This reduces initial investment costs and allows for quick ROI as new, revenue-generating services offset monthly fees.

Setup of GE’s Equipment Insight solution is fast and easy, with little or no impact on customer IT functions. An equipment data model makes configuring multiple machines simple—a single data model can apply to a fleet of the same equipment. Getting Equipment Insight up and running quickly means faster time to value, lower risk, and lower implementation costs.

Equipment Insight is a universal solution, so OEMs can improve their service offerings, regardless of the control system or intelligent devices used on customer equipment. When layered on top of GE controllers, the architecture is further simplified, reducing automation investment, improving system performance, and delivering a low total cost of ownership.

With anytime, anywhere view of asset fleet health, cases, alerts, and metrics, Equipment Insight helps machine OEMs proactively manage their installed base by:

    • Improving visibility into installed equipment performance and asset utilization

    • Improving asset availability and reducing time-to-repair

    • Optimizing equipment performance via better maintenance insight

    • Improving machine designs with actual usage data
