in case of an equine disease suspicion:
• Official veterinarian arrives at the outbreak place at the latest 24h and takes all necessary administrative and technical measures,
• Temporary cordon and disenfection are applied on suspicious establishment,
• All healthy animals are isolated from suspicious animals,
• Samples which are taken from suspicious animals, are sent to related local laboratory,
• Information of the disease is registered on Turk-Vet (Veterinary Database System)
• If the laboratory result is positive, quarantine, destruction, cleaning and disinfection are applied according to the disease
Biosecurity Measures
For example; in case of Glanders Disease:
• Temporary cordon is applied on the establishment,
• Suspicious animals are separated from the other animals,
• Test is subjected on suspicious animals (Mallein),
• Entry and exit from the establishment are prohibitted,
• Positive animals are destructed and destroyed,
• Suspicious animals are taking under supervision and are subjected to test again 21 days later. Positive animals are destructed and destroyed,
• Cleaning and disinfection are applied

III. Import health requirements
In case of permanent import:
After import controls at border gates, the animals are put under quarantine at the breeder’s establishment.
During the quarantine period some tests are subjected to animals (such as EIA,Dour. Glan. Pir.)
In case of temporary import for less than 90 days:
Dates of test including Veterinary Certificate and Passport are checked and given permission to enter.

IV.Implementation of Import Regulations
Special Arrangements
All veterinary health certificates are prepared in the frame of EU and National Legislation. The certificates are:
• Temporary and permanent import of horses from European Union,
• Temporary and permanent import of horses from the countries except EU Members,
• for imports into Turkey of registered horses from Hong Kong, Japan, Republic of Kore,Macau, Malaysia(Peninsula), Singapore, Thailand and of registered equidae and equidae for breeding and production from Canada, United States of America
• All certificates are Published in www.gkgm.gov.tr website.
Situation with EU
• According to the Directive 2004/211/EC, the Republic of Turkey is approved as regionally for temporary and permanent import of horses.
• These regions (provinces) are: Ankara, Edirne, Istanbul, Izmir, Kirklareli and Tekirdag
International Equestrian Events have taken in İstanbul and been handled
by airport and roadway Veterinary Inspection Post.
