European Para Youth Games in Finland Finland has been awarded the European Para Youth Games 2019. The event takes place on 25 th of June - 30 th of June 2019 in Pajulahti Olympic and Paralympic Training Center. These games are aimed for youth 13-23 of age and the sports for these games are Athletics, Swimming, Judo (visually impaired), Table Tennis, Boccia, Goalball, Wheelchair Basketball and Showdown as a demonstration sport. This event is the biggest para sport event in Finland in 2019. ”As an international multisport event, EPYG offers unique experience for young para athletes. Para movement gets visibility and attention and via EPYG it reaches new audience. EPYG also strengthens Finland’s role as an active nation among other European nations”, rejoices Tero Kuorikoski, Secretary General of the Finnish Paralympic Committee. ”It’s great to host this multisport event in Finland and Pajulahti. EPYG is a great achievement of Pajulahti’s long term development work with para sport,” says Mikko Levola, Director of Pajulahti Olympic and Paralympic Training Center. Multiple Paralympic Winner and a World Champion Leo-Pekka Tähti will act as a guardian for the event. ”It’s great to have the European Para Youth Games in Finland. In Finland the value of para sports has been growing steadily. This competition will certainly work as a good springboard for the young athletes. It is really important to have experience of the international atmosphere and the competition at young age. It will inspire them and definitely give a big boost for the future. Hopefully the games will also bring new potential athletes in to the world of para sport,” says Tähti. As many as 600 athletes and coaches from several European countries are expected to attend the event.
