Epitaphs• Epitaphs are also known as
headstone inscriptions.
• An epitaph is a short text honoring a deceased person, that is inscribed on their tombstone or plaque.
Here lies James who had a real bad day
When he was run over by a fat man riding a sleigh
• Here lies Katie who never could rhyme
• She died working on an assignment that took a long time
• Here lied Matt who really hated school
• He fell asleep in class and drowned in his drool
• Here lies Nathan who died at age seven
• When he tried to eat school lunch, and went straight to heaven
• Here lies Adam who really loved soccer
• He got in fight and was stuffed in a locker
• Here lies a teacher so pretty and cool,
• Who died when she dived in the shallow end of the pool
• Here lies a teacher so pretty and cool,
• Who died when she couldn’t control her own drool.
• Here lies the beautiful Miss Cole• Who died when her car crashed into
a pole
• Here lies a girl named Camille• Who tumbled down a great big hill
Your Assignment
• envision bizarre, unusual ways of killing off someone, something that would never happen in real life and which is very silly. I ask students
• think about activities you might do and visualize what bizarre thing could happen during this activity.
• Write an epitaph for your own gravestone.
