This coming Sunday, November 3,
we will join with congregations
around the world to celebrate All
Saints. Through the reading of names
(necrology), the lighting of candles
and the ringing of bells we will re-
member and give thanks for the life
and ministry of those connected with
our church family who have died
since last All Saints’ Day.
All Saints is an ancient Christian festival that can be traced
back to at least the eighth century, and was retained after
the Reformation in the calendar of the Anglican Church. It
falls on the first day of November each year, and typically
the festival is moved to the Sunday following. The Eve of
All Saints is known as All Hallows’ Eve, “hallowed even-
ing” or “holy evening” observed on October 31, but now
called Halloween. Today’s Halloween customs are
thought to have been influenced by folk customs and
beliefs from Celtic countries and brought to America with
the immigration of Irish and Scottish folks in the 19th
century.
Our tradition considers all members of the Body of Christ
saints. That does not mean we all live perfect lives, but
that through the claim God makes on us in baptism, by
water and the Spirit, God makes us members of the church
of Jesus Christ, saints in his ministry. Please join
Epiphany this coming Sunday as we focus on the blessing
of the saints in our midst with whom we have traveled in
faith. Be a part of the remembrance as we honor, read
names, and light candles in thanksgiving. And may we
continue to be a saint by looking for opportunities to
strengthen the ties that bind us. Those who traveled in
faith before us bless us. So do those with whom we travel
now. May our celebration of All Saints inspire us not only
to give thanks for those blessings, but also to add to them.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Nancy+

EYC United Thank Offering
November 10
It is that time again. Time to fill those blue boxes with
your coins and blessings.
Fill a box or write a check to ECW and place them in
the offering plate Sunday, November 10.
The UTO offering goes to support projects that address
compelling human needs and/or expand mission and
ministry both domestic and world-wide. Please make
any checks payable to ECW as we cannot send
personal checks to the Diocese.
Epiphany has been a strong contributor to the UTO
fund and we are proud of our participation in years
past. Look for the blue boxes and envelopes as you
come into the church. Take a minute and read the sides
of the boxes and receive the blessing there for you.
EYC Sponsoring
Christmas Coalition Family
The EYC will be sponsoring six children thru Marshall
County Christmas Coalition. We will gladly welcome
donations toward this effort. You may purchase a raffle
ticket for a homemade quilt or stop by Shelly's office to
ask about a specific item you may donate for one of the
children.
The youth are given the wish lists of the children, a set
amount of money to spend on each child and about an
hour to shop. It is a great experience for our youth to learn
about giving and working within the parameters of a
budget.
Thank you for your support of our youth as they show
God's love to others in our community.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
This year’s Christmas Pageant is December 22 at the
10:30am service. If your child would like to be in the
pageant, please sign up on the bulletin board outside the
nave. We would like to encourage the children to partici-
pate in this Epiphany Christmas tradition. We will also
need a fun loving man willing to be the donkey.
Rehearsals are scheduled for Sunday, December 15 from
noon until 2:00pm and Saturday, December 21 from
10:00am-12:00pm.
Children will need to arrive by 9:30am on Sunday,
December 22.
EYC QUILT RAFFLE
The EYC is selling tickets for a chance
to win a queen size quilt. The proceeds
will be used to sponsor six children thru
Marshall County Christmas Coalition.
The quilt is hanging on the wall at the
base of the stairs.
The drawing will be held at 1:30 p.m.
on November 23 at the Holiday Bazaar
(you do not need to be present to win). Tickets are $1 each,
6 for $5 or 25 for $20. Please make checks payable to
Epiphany EYC. You may purchase tickets in the office,
through an EYC member or from Shelly Hardin.

FLOWER AND CANDLE
DEDICATIONS FOR 2014
The Altar Guild is taking orders for
the altar flowers and the Eucharistic
Altar candles for 2014. This is a
beautiful and thoughtful way to celebrate, honor, and
remember those in our lives who mean so much to us.
The candle and flowers signup sheets for 2014 will be
posted on the bulletin board across from the church
office. Please remember that these are done on a first
come – first serve basis. Place your order now or you
may call Marsha at 256-571-2300. If a flower date you
would like is already spoken for, look at that same date
on the candle list.
Rodney’s Flower Shop bills for the Sunday altar
flowers to each individual.
The candle dedications are $10.00 per date and are
payable to the church. We appreciate your payment
before dedication date so the church’s records and your
year-end statement are correct. This helps our office
mark your donation(s) properly and promptly. Please
make your check payable to Epiphany and note that it
is for candles and for what date.

Poinsettias for Christmas 2013
The Altar Guild is currently taking
dedications for red Poinsettias. We
will need 50 to decorate the church
for Christmas. Each poinsettia plant
is $15.00.
Dedication forms are on the counter in the church of-
fice. This dedication is a beautiful way to honor those
people who are special in our lives and to celebrate the
birth of a baby born so long ago in a
stable and under a starry sky.
We appreciate your payment when you sign up or no
later than December 26th, so it can be processed for
year-end.
If you have any questions please see Marsha Babb or
call her at 256-571-2300.
Thank you.

REMEMBER, STYROFOAM IS PLASTIC
AND RECYCLABLE!
At breakfast we are using Styrofoam cups and paper
plates. The liquid from the cups should be emptied
into the bucket before depositing in recycle contain-
ers and plates should be somewhat clean, otherwise
put into the trash.
I appreciate everyone's cooperation in attaining this
goal to go green! Handouts are available in Sander-
son Hall with additional information.
I know change is difficult, but we will continue
protecting God's creation with God's help and your
awareness.
Thank you from your Green Initiative Team

for a morning of relaxation and
contemplation as we discover
Traditional Eastern medicinal theo-
ries about our connection to the Met-
al, one of the five Elements, and the
season of Autumn. This season is connected to the
Respiratory System and Lower Digestive System.
Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils for balancing these
systems will be shared as well as mindful breathing
techniques and gentle yoga stretches. Mats and
blankets will be available for those without their
own. Wear clothes that are comfortable to move
in. Light refreshments will be served.
Call the office 256-582-4897 to sign up.
Remove the extra calories out of cooking and eating
during the holidays:
Before you walk out to the holiday party or get
together, eat a light, healthy snack. Fresh fruit,
veggies and hummus, broth-based soups, or low fat
yogurt are all good.
To reduce the amount of fat and calories in a dish,
modify the recipe. For example, when making lasa-
gna, use part-skim ricotta cheese instead of whole-
milk ricotta cheese. Substitute vegetables, such as
carrots and spinach for some of the ground meat in
lasagna.
Don’t be afraid to bring your own dish to the party to
share. This not only gives you a healthy option, but it
also gives you a chance to introduce other family
members to a healthier style of cooking and eating.
Do you enjoy leftovers? This year, try the leftover
salad! Ditch the bread and mayonnaise, and add your
leftovers to a bed of greens with a low-fat dressing.
Rethink your drink:
Choose water, diet, or low-calorie beverages instead
of sugar-sweetened beverages such as soda pop or
juice.
To quench your thirst easily, simply carry a water
bottle and refill it throughout the day. If you’re one
of those people who thinks water is boring or plain,
squeeze some lemon or lime juice into it for a fresh
kick!
Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages. They can
have many calories, especially heavy holiday favor-
ites like
eggnog.
Get active, healthy, and happy:
Support a loved one in their fitness plan, and vice ver-
sa! This person can serve as a motivator when you
don’t feel like getting up, and as a support person
when you don’t feel like you can keep going.
Maintain your physical activity during the holi-
days—better yet, try and get more active! It will
make those New Year’s resolutions even easier
to attain. To keep your mind focused on physical
activity goals, sign up for an upcoming 5K walk
or run.
Instead of simply celebrating by eating, find fun,
creative ways your friends and family can spend
time being active. During times you are spend-
ing time together around a meal, you can still
find ways to incorporate activity!
Keep those resolutions all year long: In many ways, wetting the goal is the easiest part.
We can all come up with things we’d like to change
or improve. The reality, though, is that it’s easy for
these new expectations to become relatively over-
whelming. Do your best to set realistic goals for
yourself in the new year.
Healthy Thoughts: Healthful Holidays
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do,
do it all for the glory of God.”
(1Corinthians 10:31)
As a new year approaches, keep in mind that the start of a new year often means the start of new habits.
New habits, whether that means eating a healthier diet or participating in regular physical activity, can
easily be achieved by making some of the following simple, conscious decisions.

This is a reminder that Epiphany
has a Morning Prayer service every
Tuesday and Thursday morning at
9 a.m. in Saint Mary’s Chapel. It's
a wonderful opportunity to start
your day with prayer and to hear
the Scriptures out of the Episcopal
Lectionary assigned to the day.
Also, if a sufficient number of parishioners agree on a time that is
more convenient for them, an additional Morning Prayer service can
be arranged for them. Just email Jim Coleman at
[email protected] to suggest a day and/or time.
There will be a Thanksgiving Service November 27
at 6:00 p.m. Afterwards we will enjoy pumpkin pie.

The Epiphany family extends its most heartfelt
sympathy, love, prayers and support to Nancy
McAllister and the Zygmont family in the loss of
Nancy’s nephew, Jonathan Zygmont.
We are saddened by the loss of one of our
members, Alton "“Brother" Elliott on October
6. The Epiphany family extends its most heart-
felt sympathy, love, prayers and support to his
family.
Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord
And let light perpetual shine upon them
My dear parish family,
As many of you know, in the last few months I have experienced the sudden death of my mother and of my closest and dearest friend, Brother Elliott, as well as several other significant losses. Added with this, the stress of the sudden transi-tion situation at work.
Thanks to my dear friend, Doris Benson, who recognized the emotional state I was trying to deal with, and to the Vestry, I was given time off. I am grateful and feel blessed for the time given to me for solitude, rest, reflection on my losses, and to regain some emotional energy.
I wish to thank Rusty, Shelly, and especially Shari Harrison, and all the volunteers who helped carry the extra work while I was off. I appreciate your concern and prayers offered and look forward to seeing you around the office.
Faithfully, Martha

Woodall Commons
With all that is happening around here lately we have decided to have the official grand opening of the youth area in Woodall Commons
when the Bishop comes in January.
This will prevent us being so rushed in completing the upstairs portion of the building for Sunday, November 3. We do have the
painting virtually finished; the lighting has been delivered and will be installed either late this week or next. As soon as we get the floor
colors selected we can move forward with the tile and plumbing along with the cabinets.
Stop by and take a look, it is shaping up.
