Living our Faith
Thank you to everyone who donated to or volunteered at the Quarter Auction. It has quickly become one of our most successful (and fun) fundraisers for the parish. Truck R' Treat is coming up soon. It's co-hosted by GSA and Epiphany on our parking lot on Saturday, Oct 19. Come up for the Chili Cook-off (5pm in the gym), dress up in a costume for the Trunk R. Treat (6pm), help me hand out glow bracelets, have a good time. All Saints Day this year is on a Friday. That day, (Nov 1) is a Holy Day of obligation and Epiphany will have Mass at 8am and 7pm. Because All Saints is one of the great solemnities of the Church, all Catholics are free of the typical Friday Pen-ance. If you are interested in helping with hospitality after the 10:30 am Mass, we're looking for a new team or two to help make and serve the coffee. It's a very easy commitment. You'd be on the schedule once a month or so, only need to be about 10 minutes early for Mass to get the coffee started, and then hang around after for the coffee hour. If you're inter-ested let me know. Mass Explanations – The Sanctus The Church has sung this hymn since the 1st century, and it forms the end part of the Preface, which always leads in by reminding us that the thanks we give to God is given along with that of Saints and Angels. The wording comes from two places in the Scriptures. The first half is from the prophet Isaiah. In the 6th chapter, we read: "I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and elevated: and his train filled the temple. Upon it stood the seraphims... And they cried one to another, and said: Holy, holy, holy, the Lord God of hosts, all the earth is full of his glory." The second half comes from the shouts of the crowds as Jesus comes into Jerusalem for the last time, seated on a donkey and on his way to lose his life. Luke records the event in his Gospel: "The whole multitude of his disciples began with joy to praise God with a loud voice, for all the mighty works they had seen, saying: Blessed be the king who comes in the name of the Lord, peace in heaven, and glory on high!" This is an acclamation of a king, and shows the royal nature of Our Lord. It is not an original phrasing, but comes from the 118th Psalm. During the Passover feast each year, the Jewish people would sing that Psalm during their liturgy. The appli-cation of it to Jesus is a recognition that he is about to fulfill the Passover by making himself the sacrifice.

Stewardship “Has none but this foreigner re-turned to give thanks to God?” (Luke 17:18)
Most of us live “easy” lives. We have food, shelter, and clothing. We go on vacation every year and own a car or two. Most of us take this all for granted. Did you ever notice that people with the least amount of possessions are usually the most grateful? Shouldn’t this be the other way around? Take time every day and thank God for all He has given you.

Dear Parishioners, After 35 years of fundraising for Cardinal Glennon Hospital for Children, the Msgr. Sullivan scholarship fund,
when Epiphany of Our Lord School was open and some other parish necessities; also during that time, 18 years of fundraising for The Backstoppers, the Msgr. Sullivan Committee will officially discontinue fundraising.
The hospital is recognizing our accomplishments, our fundraising has raised over $100,000.00 for the hospi-tal, and dedicating a portrait of Msgr. Sullivan at a Mass on Wednesday Oct. 23, 2019 in the chapel at the hospital at 11:30 am. The Epiphany Parish Family has made our 35 years a success and all of you are invited to attend the Mass. Msgr. Greg Schmidt and Msgr. John Borcic will be the celebrants.
Official members of the Msgr. Sullivan Committee have dedicated their time and talents in making every
event a huge success, they are; Pat and Jan Holmes, Ray and Kathy Migneco, Mark and Linda Palardy, Matt and Julie Ellison, Steve and Patty (Tacchi) Richardson, Mike and Laura Kerber, Carol Mueller, John and Sara Roden, Bobby Curran and family, Joe Cox and family, and Jim Przada. Marriage: Love and Life In The Divine Plan: Two Become One “Marriage, the clinging together of husband and wife as one flesh, is based on the fact that man and woman are both different and the same. They are different as male and female, but the same as human persons who are uniquely suited to be partners or helpmates for each other. The difference between man and woman, how-ever, cannot be restricted to their bodies, as if the body could be separated from the rest of the human person. The human person is a union of body and soul as a single being. Man and woman are two different ways of being a human person.” To read the document go to http://www.usccb.org/loveandlife/.
