NACE Philadelphia Section Joseph Ambler Inn

9/21/2017 This meeting was a joint meeting of the Eastern Pennsylvania Corrosion Committee (EPCC) and the Philadelphia Section of NACE. Unfortunately the chairman and secretary of the EPCC could not be at the meeting. Therefore one meeting was conducted and chaired by Joe Saxton with EPCC input from Larry Hamrick of Energy Transfer. The meeting was called to order by Section Chairman Joe Saxton at 10:05 am MEETING ATTENDEES Meeting attendees introduced themselves, Attendee list is attached with a number of 19.
EPCC MEETING Larry Hamrick reviewed several active cases and some cases that have been tested and approved. No additional business was discussed.
NACE PHILADELPHIA SECTION MEETING PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES Minutes from the June 23th meeting were approved as submitted by Paul Fallis. MEMBERSHIP REPORT Jack Wink reported that the Philadelphia Section membership currently consists of 570 people, a negative 0.2% change on September 20, 2017. TREASURER’S REPORT The section checking balance was $8,098.86 as of 08/31/2017. TRUSTEE’S REPORT Dan mentioned that Eastern Area Strategic Planning sessions will be held on October 09, 2017 in Washington, PA at the Eastern Area Meeting. Dan, Drew, Dave and George plan to attend. These planning sessions are open to all Eastern Area NACE members. LIBERTY BELL CORROSION COURSE 2018 LBCC is scheduled for February 7th and 8th, 2018. “The location of the school will be at Normandy Farms. The school will be advertised in Materials Performance Magazine in the November issue.

OLD BUSINESS Joe Saxton asked Steve Alberico, what the status of a suggested Interference Testing session was. Steve said it will not be part of the Liberty Bell Corrosion Course and that Josh Stanley is working on a presentation that will be given at the February 2018 Joint Corrosion Committee Exhibitor meeting. Emer Flounders asked about the disposition of the section end of year financial report. Since he is the treasurer for the LBCC he wanted to be on a section audit committee. Paul Fallis was not present to answer the questions that came out of the discussion. Emer also asked what the results of the new section officer balloting process. Drew informed the attendees that out of our section membership of 460 + members only 80 people voted in the recent election and that people at the Houston Headquarters are currently trying to work the bugs out of the proposed system for future voting. NEW BUSINESS Dave announced to the attendees that he had Liberty Bell Course registration information and information about the Section Scholarship for anyone interested. This information is also available on the section website www.nace-philapa.org A discussion followed about possibly increasing the amount of our scholarship or the number of scholarships that we offer, the issue will be revisited after the 2018 LBCC. Dan Joseph mentioned that Paul Fallis was looking into creating a Philadelphia Section page on Facebook and LinkedIn. It was suggested that before entering the section into Facebook or LinkedIn that the issue needed to be discussed and approved by the Board of Directors. Dan proposed that the section consider giving additional funding to the NACE Foundation. After discussion the attendees chose to table the issue at this meeting. FUTURE MEETINGS AND SCHOOLS George Krewson reported that the the 2017 Eastern Area conference will be conducted October 9-11 at the Doubletree Meadow Lands in Washington PA. The section Holiday Meeting will be held on December-08, 2017, at the Na Brasa Restaurant on Rt 611 in Horsham, PA. With a Board meeting at 11:00 am followed by lunch and a gift drawing. The joint meeting held in May in the Williamsport area had a good attendance and he suggested that we have another meeting there in May 2018. Everyone present agreed that that was a good idea.

Drew mentioned that the NACE Annual Conference 2018 will be held in Phoenix, Arizona April 15-19, 2018. Drew also mentioned that the Appalachian Underground Corrosion Short Course will be conducted in Morgantown, WV May 15-17, 2018. Drew also asked whether the Philadelphia Section should sponsor a future Eastern Area Conference. This was not well received. The meeting was adjourned at 11:59 AM Respectfully Submitted, John Zhang
