MICAns did something different dur-ing this year's alumni meet. For thefirst time, they organised two newevents.First was the 10-year reunion oftheir alumni and second was the first

ever leadership summit. While MICAns got nostalgic about

their alma mater, they also deliveredspeeches during the leadership summit, and were awed by student's enthusiasmand concentration, something theymissed during their days.

"Initially, MICA lacked discipline,it be-ing a place of creativity, many interpret-ed it in different way, that t hey would getaway by dressing in a particular fashionand the like, which I haven't seen thistime. There was lot of vigor with whichthe event was organised and the disci-pline I saw during the summit, even whenthe going was tough, showed that certainamount of maturity had grown into stu-dents today as compared to the casualnessduring my time. MICA has a unique op-portunity to produce creative leaders, andtherefore, they can do far more humanconnected work than other marketing in-stitutions could possibly do. Entrepre-neurship is a norm and if MICAns don'texploit it, then I don't know who will,"Ashutosh Wakankar, Director at Centreof Gravity, from MICA's 1999 batch, said.

While other speakers agreed about theincreased enthusiasm and vigor withwhich students worked for alumni meetsand summits, some even stated thatyoung guns had lot of opportunity to gothe unconventional way of earning theirlivelihood.

According to Arjuna award winnerand former Olympian,Viren Rasquinha,a speaker at the summit, "Today's youthhas enormous potential, which they arelocking away. But institutes like MICAcan help students unleash that potentialwhich sometimes takes a leap into the un-known and takes a long trip. It is not al-ways necessary to go down the conven-

tional way, rather do what you are pas-sionate about the most."

Talking about opportunities in sportsfor budding marketers, researchers andmore, Rasquinha said that, "There is a

growing trend of people opting for thealternative route, one of them beingsports.I think those days of having hon-orary federations, wherein people knownothing about how to market sportsmenand a particular sport, has gone. Soon, there will only be paid professionals whowill look after all aspects of sports.Moreso, sport is considered as a tool for com-panies to reach masses,as it cuts acrossall barriers. Figuring out how to marketsports is not only a huge challenge butalso a huge opportunity and we are defi-nitely on the cusp of a breakthroughwherein there would be immense job op-portunities in sports."
