World' Wide Reception On TheWorld's Finest Receiver

TODAY in hundreds of homes in every part of theU.S.A., and in more than seven hundred cities in

one hundred and forty-eight foreign lands, owners ofcustom built SCOTT ALL WAVE receivers are expe-riencing thrills quite unknown to most owners of ordi-nary radio receivers.

If you were contemplating the purchase of a certainarticle, and knew of a friend who nad one in use, youwould feel much more confidence in your friend's opin-ion of the product, than you would of the manufac-turer. So, in the pages that follow, you will find, not

what I say, but unbiased evidence from Scott ownersof the kind of reception they are securing from broa[l-casting stations all over the world.

. In reading through these pages, I believe you wilDfind convincing proof that custom built. SCOTT ALL-WAVE receivers are not merely giving their ownersworld wide reception, but are giving them receptionvastly superior tothat of any other ra-dio receiver in theworld today.

MORE FOREIGN STATIONS-CLEARERAND WITH MORE VOLUME-ON

CUSTOM BUILT SCOTTIF.YOU live in California, you want to know what a radio

receiver will do for you there-if you live in New York,it's what it does in New York-for while its performance inChicago, Madrid or Shanghai, may be interesting, you donot feel it is sufficiently convincing as to the results you willsecure in California or New York. Therefore, so that youmay have exact information on the kind of foreign receptionSCOTI CUSTOM BUILT ALLWAVE Receivers are givingowners in various locations in the United States, I am re-producing just one letter from each state in the country.

In practically everyone of these letters you will noticethat Scott owners are not only receiving programs from thebroadcasting stations of the world regularly, but are, in mostcases, receiving them as clearly, and with as much volume,as their local stations.

These letters are in no sense reproduced as claims that aScott Allwave receiver will always provide reception fromforeigr; stations daily, under all conditi?ns, for the receiveris not yet built that will do this. However, I do believethat our SCOTT FULL RANGE HIGH FIDELITY ALL-

ALABAMAI get everything on the air. Spain. Italy. England,

France and· Germany come in like locals.T. ,. Wynn, Dothan, Alabama.

ARIZONAGermany. England, France, Italy, Australia, Japan,

and South America are heard daily and most enjoyably.fohn Binder, fr., Phoenix, Arizona.

The results to me are amazing, for I am able to re-ceive Rome, Paris, London, and Germany as. well asSouth American points with a consistency that 15 almostbeyond belief. The reception is un usually clear andthe volume equal to that of local stations.

Arthur E. Smith, Little Rock, Arkansas.

We especially enjoy the programs from Europe-theycome in with the clarity and volume of the local broad-cast stations.

COLORADOLast night at 10:30 P.M. Mountain Standard Time

I received with exceptional volume and clearness sta-tion JVN Tokio, Japan. Listened to news reports fromthis station broadcast in English, the reception being.as clear and undistorted as American stations.

Charles W. Lilly, Dolores, Colorado.

On the short waves I have received DJe, Germany;'EAQ Spain; GSA, England and 12RO Italy just as;.good' and clear as our local stations. It o1:ltperforms,all the sets I have previously owned.

William A. Farken, Collinsville, Connecticut.

DELAWAREResults on the Scott have been beyond my expecta-

WAVE Receiver, will bring in foreign stations from greaterdistances-with more volume-and better tone-on both theshort waves and the broadcast band--:than any other radioreceiver in the world today.

So sure I am of this, that your order will be accepted withthe distinct understanding that you are to be allowed 30days after delivery in your home, in which you can makeany kind of competitive test of its performance against anyother allwave receiver. If the Scott Allwave does not dem-onstrate its superiority in the reception of foreign sta-tions in your home, by bringing them in from greaterdistances-clearer-and with more volume-than anyother receiver you care to test against it-then youhave the privilege of returning it any time within the30 days (you to pay the transportation charges) andthe money you paid will be promptly refunded. Thisguarantee is made with the conviction that a 30 days' test inyour home, will quickly show you why the Scott Allwave hasbeen generally recognized for many years in every part ofthe globe as "The World's Finest Receiver."

tions.: I can bring in stations in England, France, Italy,South America, Central America, and Australia likelocals.

Scene on River Thames, London. Programsfrom the English Broadcasting Stations HaveBeen Enjoyed Regularly for Many Years byOwners of SCOTT ALLW AVE Receivers.

Then, when they ring the door bell. tune in Germany,England, Italy or France, one of which generally hasa program that you could not distinguish from an Amer-ican broadcast. I then let the caller in without sayinganything ahout what is on and let him listen. He gen-erally listens for a few minutes, then says, "Can youget a foreign station now I" I then tell him that is aEuropean station, but he generally won't believe ituntil they announce.

M. f. Horn, Washington, District of Columbia.

This morning heard Dutch East Indies-Java; andJVM Japan netted some Jap conversation. I get bet-ter reception, clearer, more sparkling, from England,Germany and France at night than I do on many ofour own stations.

K. C. Un/hank, Frostproof, Florida.

We get all the European stations with good volume. In fact, vie were tuned in on London and could hardlybelieve it until he announced it again. It was as clearand full as a regular broadcast program. I am as proudof this set as anything I own and every one that hearsit wonders how the foreign stations come in so clearly.

Roland R. Jones, Savannah. Georgia.

IDAHOSunday I picked up Daventry, England, and listened

to them for an hour until they signed off. At the timeI also picked up France. Both of these stations camein with tremendous volume.

Francis F. LeClaire, Fort Hall, Idalto. '\

Most any station that is on the air can be picked upeasily with good volume. England, Germany and theSouth American stations come in like locals.

Dr. Ralph W. Prettyman, Chicago, Illinois.

Page 3: eott ews - americanradiohistory.com...JVM apa netted some Jap c oversati n. I get bet-ter reception, clearer, more sparkling, from England, Germany and France at night than I do on

~I coulcln't believe that reception on short waves could

equal reception on the broadcast band, but now I cansee it's more than done. One afternoon listening toDJC in Germany, I could actually hear the breathingof the announcer, and I think this is perfection inradiG to be able to hear breathing 5,000 miles away.

Herman Hums, Mishawaka, Indiana.

Every day I have been getting England, Germany,France as clear as my local station. Australia comes inevery morning very clear.

Joseph Moquin, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

It is truly a radio that will get out every day andbring in foreign stations. \Vhen I say bring them in Imean like local broadcast stations.

Ronald A. Kennedy, Manhattan, Kansas.

While I was skeptical at first, I had not listened tenminutes before I realized what you had predicted. Ihad never heard anything like it before. Foreign sta-tions came in as strongly as locals.

George C. Porel, Murray, Kentucky,

I have now had my radio just ODe week and havehad very good results, having received London andGermany with all the clearness and volume of a localin spite of the 103 degrees temperature here for thelast week.

Rochester Clarke, Lake Charles, Louisiana.

I am recelvmg European stations very clearly andwith more ·volume than is necessary for home reception. In fact have heard these stations on musical programsmany times with better tone and volume than I couldget from our local stations.

Walter J. Mayo, Dover-Foxcro/t, Maine.

I can listen to either London or Berlin with the vol-ume turned only one-eighth of the wayan and havevolume strong enough to be heard all over the house.

Richard Bradley VI. Baltimore, Maryland.

The foreign programs come in like locals, with goodvolume and beautiful quality. I listen to Melbourne,Australia, with volume and clarity sufficient to hearwith satisfaction all over the house.

George R. Townsend, Winchester, Massachusetts.

It is simply uncanny to be listening to some SouthAmerican or European station as clear and with as goodloud speaker tone as our own local stations. Mrs. Swayzecalled me this morning and told me she had just gotVatican City, Italy, as clear as a bell. In fact, heardthe bells and even the clock ticking in the studio.

D. K. Swayze, Flint, Michigan.

The first station I tuned in was Daventry, England, and it came through like a local station with excellentvolume and tonal Quality.

Henry H echtl, St. Paul, Minnesota.

It is just about 9 :00 A.wI. and we are listening toa program corning from Germany. It is just as clearas if it weFe corning through our station in ]acksan.

R. C. Ricks, Jackson, Mississippi.

Foreign stations come in with such volume and clear-ness that I have almost ceased to listen to U.S. stations.

H. C. Gross, St. Louis, Missouri.

I believe that here in Montana we are in about thetonghest spot in the country for bringing in the Euro-peans, but in spite of this fact, I have brought inParis and Rome every day. The quality of the musicfrom Europe was the finest I ever heard. As one of

my friends remarked "You might as well be right inthe studio-it sounds the same."

Frank W. Harris, Great Falls, Montana.

Believe it or not, I can tune in VK2ME, Australia,EAQ, Spain and English stations with only SO inchesof antenna wire.

This instrument truly opens the doors to foreign re-ception so wide that one has only to select the country, then tune in and enjoy programs that in many casesexcel our ·own American stations in volume and Quality.

S. J. Lawson, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rome and London come in with great volume; evenon the inside wire. Last Saturday and today I hadVK3ME, Australia, and enjoyed the program while Iwas eating breakfast two rooms away from my workshop.

W. J. McDonald, Intervale, New Hampshire.

Have received London, Berlin. and Paris, all withmarvelous tone quality and volume equal to any Amer-ican station.

A. R. McAllister, Bridgeton, New Jersey.

This morning before going to work I had Bandeong,Java, like a local, and this evening I had London, Ber-lin and Paris like local or U.S. stations.

J. H. Love, Gallup, New Mexico.

Sometimes we listen to symphony orchestras fromLondon, Paris, Rome, and Berlin, and I am not exag-gerating a bit when I say that the reproduction isequally as good, if not better than American broad-cast stations.

Arthur NeJame, Binghamton, New York.

I have tried four of the better standard make receiv-ers and can truthfully say that none of the others comeeven close to the Scott Receiver. To name a few ofthe many stations received regularly with great vol-ume and clarity-DJA-DJC-DJN-DJB-in Ger-many PCJ Netherlands, EAQ Spain, 12RO and IREItaly: HBL Switzerland. CTIAA Portugal, HP5J Pan-ama, Radio Colonia Ie France, GSA and GSD Englandand many others. All these stations come in as clearlyas locals.

Benn H. Rosenwald, Charlotte, North Carolina.

Last Friday while prospecting around, I picked up astation which was coming so loudly and clearly, andwithoul a suggestion of fading, that I remarked to afriend "That can't possibly be a foreign station."Just then the piano solo ended. and the next thing weheard was Westminster Chimes, followed by Big Benstriking 3. (It was 9 A.M. here.) Instead of an Amer-ican station, I had GSF, London.

Dr. W. C. Wolverton, Linton, North Dakota.

I have listened to England, France, Spain, Italy andGermany and many other foreign stations with as goodreception as the local stations.

Nat. McKinnon, East Liverpool, Ohio.

Even on bad nights, I get London as clear as day. Ithought I had Boston or Schenect~dl:'-it :vas so strong, but during numbers I heard the vlOlms bemg tuned andthen the announcement, "This is London calling."

F. E. Woucters, Hennessey, Oklahoma.

OREGONI get GSC, Daventry, England, DJN, Berlin, Ger-

many, 12RO, Rome, Italy, and VPD, Suva, Fiji Islands,as loud as the local stations.

Frank Petlrsmt, Portland, Oregon.

whether it is a high powered American station on thebroadcast band or a foreign station.

A. M. Zimmerman, Fullerton, Pennsylvania.

South America, Australia, Italy, England, Germany,France, etc., come in as clearly as any local station.

Arthur Simpson, Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

I find London comes in with tremendous volume, more than can be used and with practically no fading.Berlin is also good.- Both stations sound about the sameas our domestic stations.

A. L. Iulienne, Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Pontoise has been coming in with good volume, butEngland, Germany and Spain have been positivelybooming in. It would be no exaggeration to say thatthe latter three stations could be heard for more thanthree blocks if we put the radio near the front door.

C. D. Ward, Jr., Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

It pulls in stations from the other side of the. worldwith the clarity and volume of a local.

Kenneth H. Garrett, Salt Lake City, Utah.

I am very much pleased with the tone quality onthe short waves. Paris, Madrid, Sidney, Australia, sound like locals when the weather is favorable.

E. Dunivant, Memphis, Tennessee.

I have been receiving Berlin and London every dayfor some time without any fading whatsoever, in fact, like a regular local broadcasting station.

Clyde W. Allen, McAllen, Texas.

Without a doubt your receiver is far and awaysuperior to any receiver. On the short waves almostany day England, France, Germany, Italy and Spaincome in with reception as clear and strong as \VGY,which is 150 miles from us.

William J. Humphrey, Burlington, Vermont:

I had stations in Germany, France, Holland, Russia,Belgium, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and a number ofstations in South American countries so they could beclearly understood over the entire room.

F. Willson Craigie, Richmond, Virginia.

England, France, Italy and Spain are my best sta~tions in Europe. They come in like locals and can betuned in almost any day.

W. McGrath, Port Angeles. Washington.

I have made many comparisons between local sta-tions and foreign stations, and time and again usingthe same volume I have tuned from a powerful localstation to London with no decrense in the volume orclearness 0/ the reception. I have heard Big Benstrike in London every day at 6 P.M. Eastern Standardtime· under any and all kinds of ,veather conditions.

G. F. Wilkinson, Charleston, West Virginia.

WISCONSINSunday, March 3, within one-half hour I have tuned

in and identified 12RO, Rome, Italy; GSB and GSC,Enoland' EAQ, Spain, and DJC, Germany. A Dutchstation ~t Amsterdam was just signing off with tremen-dous volume when I tuned in. All the above namedstations came in with such volume as to be mistakenfor local stations.

Dr. E. K. Steinkopf, Pewaukee, Wisconsin.

WYOMINGI tuned in at about 11.30 at 8 P.M. today, Mountain

Standard Time, and received London, England, veryclearly on the short wave.

Oscar C. Thielen, Sheridan, Wyoming.

Higher Fidelity-Finer Tone-ClearerReproduction-Greater Undistorted Volume-

On Custom Built ScottWITH our larger broadcasting sta-

tions now transmitting high fidel-ity studio programs up to 8,500 cycles-with the new high fidelity phonographrecords reproducing all frequencies upto 9,000 cycles-and with several newhigh fidelity broadcasting stations trans-mitting programs up to 16,000 cycles-it will be immediately apparent, that ifa receiver is to reproduce perfectly theseprograms and the new phonograph rec-ords-it must be able to faithfully re-produce all frequencies up to 16,000cycles, not merely up to 7,500 cycles.

Scott Laboratories Pioneer ALL WAVEand Full Range High Fidelity

ReceiverEight years ago, the Scott Laborato-

ries introduced its first allwave receiver, but it was not until four years later thatmanufacturers of production type re-ceivers introduced them. Just as we pio-neered the allwave receiver for fouryears in advance of the ordinary. radioreceiver, so in our Scott Full RangeHigh Fidelity Receiver we are againpioneering in advanced receiver design, for today it is, I believe, the only re-ceiver that is capable of reproducing theentire audible musical range from 30 to16,000 cycles, more than twice the over-all range of any other high fidelity re-ceiver.

Until you have heard musical or vocalselections reproduced thru this receiver, you cannot possibly realize what youhave been missing on your present radioin every musical program.

Many of World's Greatest LivingMusicians Own Scott Receivers

Perhaps one of the strongest proofs ofthe tonal perfection of Scott receivers,is the fact that today we number amongour most enthusiastic owners some ofthe world's greatest living musicians.

With our receiver it is possible to re-produce, without distortion, the highestand the lowest tones and overtones ofevery single musical instrument withsuch realism, that you can hardly be-lieve the orchestra has not, by· somemagic, been transported from the broad-casting station or the recording studio, right into your home.

Revolutionary New DevelopmentIn addition to a high fidelity range

that is more than twice that of anyother radio receiver, you will also findincorporated one of the greatest ad-vances in the reproduction of music, anew and exclusive development of ourresearch laboratory, the Scott ProgramVolume Range Expander. With this newdevelopment, musical and vocal" pro-grams are reproduced with practicallyall of their original tonal range and vol-ume, with all of the whispering pianis-simos and the thundering fortissimos, the light and the shade, and the bril-liant, sparkling, living tones you hearwith the musicians in your presence.

Why You Have Never Heard SuchPerfect Reproduction of Musical

Instruments and the HumanVoice

If you have ever watched a broadcastfrom a Studio, you may have noticedan engineer seated before a number ofdials in a glass enclosure facing thestudio stage .. It is his job to deliberatelyincrease volume when soft passages areplayed, making them louder to over-come tube noises, microphone hiss andstation hum. When louder passages areplayed, he must reduce their volume,

UNever would I have believed that it was pas·sible to attain such a marvelous reproductionand to you assuredly belongs the credit of hav-ing produced a miracle of perfection. What sat-isfies me really very much is the quality of thetone, which is mellow, clear, beautiful, and notconfused as in other receivers which I have hadbefore yours."-Arturo Toscanini, Conductor, NewYork Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.

otherwise the transmitter would be over-loaded with heavy notes which wouldcause distortion, and also because theordinary radio receiver does not haveenough power to reproduce these heavynotes perfectly. FQr this reason musicaland vocal selections heard over the airoften sound dull and lifeless comparedto the original rendition. The ScottProgram Volume Range Expander re-stores the original volume range andexpression. When you hear this mar-velous new development with the ScottFull Range High Fidelity receiver, youwill agree that never before have youheard such faithful reproduction of mus-ical instruments and the human voice. On the following page you will findwhat Scott owners think of the tonequality of their receivers.

"NOW HEARS TONES ON INSTRUMENTS HENEVER HEARD BEFORE"

"I am hearing things I never heard be-fore and am enjoying it immensely. Forinstance, I now hear the scrape of a wirebrush on the head of a snare drum, while the tones of tambourines and cas-tanets are clear as a bell, and the highnotes of such instruments as violins andoboes are so true, that there is no doubt, while listening, which instrument iswhich. Strangely enough I don't get asmuch kick out of the dance orchestrasas I did because I now hear so muchbetter music from symphonies, stringensembles and operatic selections. How-ever, what appeals to me most in theScott is that I am now able to get thesort of music that is worth while listen-ing to."Charles E. Clement, Jr., Jersey City, N. J.

"GIVES PROGRAM REALISM HERETOFOREENTIRELY LOST"

"Anyone who has not heard the ScottHigh Fidelity receiver has never lis-tened to a program as it is transmitted. It gives almost every type of program arealism that has heretofore been entirelylost. The soft passages, swells, andcrashes are reproduced with perfectfidelity. The monotony of a commonvolume level is replaced with perfectmodulation. It does not sound likeradio. Close your eyes and you haveno difficulty imagining you are seatedin the auditorium where the program is

Page 5: eott ews - americanradiohistory.com...JVM apa netted some Jap c oversati n. I get bet-ter reception, clearer, more sparkling, from England, Germany and France at night than I do on

in progress. A touch of volume on apipe organ, large orchestra' or bandgives you a thrill that words cannot ade-quately describe. No noise, no vibra-tion, no sour notes. It is truly a musicalinstrument."

Robert L. Stuart, Allentown, Pa."AS A MUSICIAN KNOWS REAL TONE-BEST REPRODUCTION HAS EVER HEARD""As a musician I think I know real

. tone when I hear it, and my receiver isa much higher Fidelity reproducerthan anything I've listened to. The in-dependent bass and treble controls en-able me to adjust the tonal balance of aband so that the music sounds even bet-ter than it would to be actually presentwhere it was played."James B. Spear, Indianapolis, Indiana.

"ONE OF OUR GREATEST ENGINEERINGACCOMPLISHMENTS"

"I cannot say more than that one inclosing the eyes must think twicewhether he is actually in an auditoriumor not. I look upon your instrument asone of our greatest engineering accom-plishments. My wife who for manyyears earned her living in the betterfields of music, simply cannot be tornaway from the programs of the greatartists and orchestras. Until we gotyour instrument, she rarely, if ever, paidany attention to radio other than thenews flashes. Now she will sit before itfor hours."

Harry A. Garrison, Portsmouth, Va."ENJOYED MOST MARVELOUS REPRODUC-TION OF GOOD MUSIC HE HAS EVER HEARD"

"On Wednesday evening I enjoyed themost marvelous reproduction of goodmusic I ever heard come from a radio. It supplies the color and expression thatheretofore have been missing in radioreception. I do not understand how itis done, as I am no engineer, but amsatisfied with the results. Only acceptmy congratulations on your big achieve-ment, but I am also congratulating my-self."

E. V. Wierman~ Decatur, Illinois."FEELS HE IS IN CHOICE SEAT IN FRONT

OF STAGE""The Scott has brought back my ap-

preciation of good music. The operasand symphonies are reproduced withsuch naturalness that one does not real-ize he is listening to radio, but feelsthat he is in a choice seat in front ofthe stage." .

Capt. Hugh F. Conrey, Fort Sill, Okla."NEVER BEFORE HEARD SUCH FAITHFUL-

NESS OF REPRODUCTION""When I am not a professor, I am an

explorer. I have been second in com-mand of two Arctic Expeditions and wassecond in command of the first Byrd

Antarctic Expedition where I did ex-.tensive field work. We had short wavereceivers on all these expeditions, andI even carried a small receiver whensledding in the Antarctic just to pick upthe all important time signals. Butnever in the field or through any com-mercial receiver that I have heard inanyone else's home have I known such Ii

faithfulness of reproduction as comesfrom my Scott. The Sunday afternoonNew York Philharmonic Symphony con-certs and the Saturday afternoon Met-ropolitan Opera Broadcasts seem to bedesigned solely for my pleasure for theyare here in my home in all their varietyand completeness."

L. M. Gould, Northfield, Minnesota."TRUL Y MARVELOUS TO LISTEN TO REMARK-

ABLE RESPONSE""I just finished listening to Horace

Heidt and his Brigadiers on WGN. Itis truly marvelous to listen to the re-markable audio response especiallywhen Alvedo Ray plays on the steelguitar which certainly reaches the higherfrequencies. Any other receiver mufflesthese high frequencies and produces afalse response, but the Scott Receiverbrings it all through with uncanny bril-liance of tone."

Isa Paul Bushouse, Kalamazoo, Mich."ALL CLAIMS AMPLY FULFILLED"

"You will remember the requirementsI outlined to you as my specification forradio satisfaction and I will admit thatthey were rather broad. Many years ofattendance at symphony concerts andthe Opera had made me rather criticalof radio reproduction and my demandswere undoubtedly exacting. You hadno hesitation in accepting my order on

Arthur Simonson, Milwaukee, Wis."DULUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PRO-

"To say that I am pleased is an under-statement. My first demand was fortonal fidelity and you have suppliedthat in a manner that refutes all argu-ments. Last night I listened to the Du-luth Symphony Orchestra Program. Itwas almost unbelievable, each' note soclear. I never heard anything like itbefore from any radio. Your productis so far ahead of other radios, not onlyof a comparable price, but of any price, that you are indeed entitled to congrat-ulations."Ivor Campbell, M.D., Mogadore, Ohio."WONDERFUL TO HEAR ALL DELICATE SHAD-INGS OF ALL INSTRUMENTS REPRODUCED"

"Tone quality has always in the writ-er's opinion been the greatest thing inradio. All other qualities are 100 percent down. You have this tone qualityin your set to the 'nth degree. I havealways been very fond of symphonicmusic, and it is wonderful to hear allthe delicate shadings of all the variousinstruments reproduced .. For the firsttime I have really heard the "singingviolins." For the first time I have heardthe announcer call himself HowardClaney and not as Howard Caney as isheard on my other set. The letter "L"is heard in its entirety."

Dr. F. Kruse, Buffalo, New York."AS NEAR PERFECTION AS IT IS POSSIBLE

tried to find a radio that would repro-duce the broadcasts as near as possibleto what they sound like in the studio.I have either owned or operated all thehigh class commercial receivers, andhave had receivers built to special or-der, but all of them lacked somethinguntil I received your new set. I believeit is as near perfection as it is possibleto build a set at the present time, and ifit could not be replaced, no sum ofmoney within reason could induce meto part with it."

James M. West, New Bern, N. C."CLEAR TONE BRINGS PLEASURE TO DEAF"

CUSTOM BUILT SCOTT GUARANTEEDTO GIVE QUIETER RECEPTION-

IN POOR RECEIVING LOCATIONS

THE elimination of static and elec-trical interference has long been a

major problem in the design of radioreceivers. So far, no one has discoveredhow to entirely eliminate noise in radioreception in any location and under allconditions. However, continual researchin our laboratories has enabled us todesign a receiver which very consider-ably reduces noise, and we believe givesquieter and clearer reception, than anyother receiver can give in the same loca-tion. Today, Scott Receiversare providing reception in loca-tions where it has, up to thistime, been impossible to obtainsatisfactory reception on anyother receiver that has beentried. However, there are somelocations where electrical inter-ference is so bad that not evena Scott will give satisfactoryreception, but such locationsare few and far between.

Why, you may ask, is it pos-sible for a Scott Receiver toprovide good reception in loca-tions where most other receiv-ers fail? In the first place, thecustom built Scott Receiver isprobably the most completelyshielded radio in the world to-day. Every coil and every cir-cuit is so completely shielded, that when the antenna is dis-connected, the receiver is abso-lutely silent. In the ordinaryreceiver there is a sufficient"pick-up" on the coils andparts that are exposed and not shielded,to still receive local stations. Thismeans, of course, that this exposed wir-ing will also pick up electrical interfer-ence. To prevent interference being fedinto the receiver through the A.C. lines,a line filter is built into our receiver, which completely eliminates noise ert-tering receiver through the A.C. line.In addition to the complete shielding ofthe receiver we have designed a specialantenna for use in locations where elec-trical interference is bad. :u the flattop of this special antenna can be lo-cated outside the interference area, weare able to give reception with the noiseeliminated or so reduced that the pro-grams can be enjoyed.

During the course of the World'sFair a custom built Scott Allwave re-ceiver was installed in center of thecontrol room in each of the elevators inthe observation towers of the Sky Ride.Every day during the two years theWorld's Fair was in progress, from eightto as many as twelve thousand peopleheard music and news coming from thisReceiver located right in the center oJa mass of motors, dynamos, control con-tacts, and other electrical equipment.

They saw the dynamos turning, thecontacts breaking and making contact, but to their amazement they did nothear a single click coming from thespeaker of the Scott Allwave, but justclear, quiet reception.

These thousands of visitors had apublic demonstration, every day, fortwo years, of a Scott Receiver operatingin what most people would consider animpossible location for any kind of re-ception-but it was just another dem-onstration which proved the perfectionof the shielding and antenna installationof a Scott Receiver, and also of thekind of reception it can give under themost difficult receiving conditions.

On these pages you will find a few ofthe many hundreds of unsolicited let-ters I have received from Scott ownerstelling what kind of reception they aregetting in poor locations. However, Iwant to emphasize the fact that I makeabsolutely no claim that a custom builtScott Receiver will eliminate entirelyall noise and interference in any loca-tion. The only claim I make is that aScott Receiver w.uz give you better re-

ception in your particular loca-tion than any other receiver. You have thirty days after youreceive it in your home to testthe quality of its reception inyour particular location againstany other receiver. If it doesnot give you quieter andbetter reception, then youhave the privilege of return-ing the set (you to paytransportation charges) andyour money will bepromptly refunded.

"DID NOT BELIEVE IT POSSIBLE TO SECURESUCH QUIET RECEPTION"

"You and your engineers have devel-oped a truly marvelous instrument. Atlast it has become possible to enjoyradio reception. I did not believe it pos-sible that we could have such naturaland quiet reception in a locality consid-ered the worst in the city for radio re-.eption." .rheo. F. Binhammer, Watertown, Wis.

"BRINGS IN PROGRAMS WITH NOISESIFTED OUT"

"As you know, our location is not atall ideal for radio reception on accountof several sources of interferences' butour Scott has a way of sidesteppingthese noises and bringing in the pro-grams with the noise sifted out."

W. D. Merrill, 'Benton, Arkansas.

"LISTENS TO EUROPE EVEN WHENATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS BAD"

"Static which we generally get withdistant stations at this season is farless troublesome than with any other setI have ever heard. Even with adverseatmospheric conditions we listened toParis, London, and Berlin with good vol-ume."Dr. Leland L. Atwood, Worcester, Mass.

"ABLE TO ELIMINATE GOOD PART OFINTERFERENCE"

"As you will remember, I am locatedery close to a hospital, from which I

receive a great deal of interference, butcan say that with your set I am able toeliminate a good part of this interfer-ence, and can receive foreign stations

cleare.r than with any other set I haveused. I don't think there has been asingle night within the past thirty daysthat I have not been able to pick upLondon. I have also been able to re-ceive EAQ, Madrid, 12RO, Italy, thethree Australian stations, several in Ger-many, and a number of South Ameri-can and Mexican stations. The Englishand German stations come in withmighty fine tone and volume to spare, could copy their programs word forword without any trouble."

E. L. Watson, Dallas, Texas.

"BRINGS IN PROGRAMS WITHOUT DIS·AGREEABLE BACKGROUND NOISE"

"This being the third Scott I haveowned I naturally set my expectationsfar higher than one who had not hadthat experience would have done; need-less to say I have not been disappointed. It is rather hard for me to pick out fromits many features those which particu-larly appeal to me, but I think it is itsability to reach out a thousand or fif-teen hundred miles and bring in a pro-gram without the disagreeable back-ground noise. This is doubly pleasingto people who are situated ·Iike I amhundreds of miles from a key station, and are now able to go direct to NewYork, Chicago, New Orleans, and re-ceive our programs direct without theloss through the phone wires and alsothe noise picked up the same way."

R. H. Humphrey, Erie, Pennsylvania.

"CAN CUT OUT OVER 50% OF NOISE ORELIMINATES ENTIRELY"

"I am getting used to the sensitivityand fidelity control more every day.By adjusting the sensitivity above thenoise level I can cut out the noise over50 per cent or eliminate it entirely. There are times when I can put all thesensitivity on without any noise at all."

fading or distortion. In this my firstletter since operating the receiver, Iwill not bother to give you lengthy logsof stations received, but I will say thatI am able to hear any station in theworld capable of putting an impulse inmy antenna. I have heard them fromthe other side of the earth, need I saymore? Occasionally, during our liveswe are privileged in seeing or hearingthe activities of our fellow men achievesuperb heights. At these times, whetherthey be in the field of athletics, busi-ness, science, art or any combination ofthem, I am intensely moved. I am somoved as I listen to the Scott. To methis instrument represents the effort ofone whose heart and soul is in theachievement of the ultimate in radioreception."

H. S. Mason, Jr., Azusa, California.

"GIVES FINE RECEPTION IN DIFFICULTLOCATION"

MORE VERIFIED WORLDfS DX RECEPTIONRECORDS ARE HELD BY SCOTT RECEIVERS

THAN ANY OTHER RADIOIN 1924, over eleven years ago, a Scott

custom built receiver startled theradio world by establishing FourWorld's Long Distance Records, whichwere all fully verified, for the consist-ent, night after night reception of sta-tions six to nine thousand miles distant. In 1924 any receiver that brought in astation even a tho, usandiniles away wasconsidered remarkable, and the per-formance of this first Scott receiverstartled the whole radio world.

Since that time hardly a year haspassed but what a Scott receiver hasnot accomplished some outstanding per-formance in the reception of foreignstations. The secret of Scott long dis-tance perfocmance lies in the extremelyhigh degree of Usable Sensitivity, andperfectly controllable selectivity, whichenables owners of Scott receivers tobring in weak, distant stations, whichare seldom heard on other receivers.

Below are reproduced just a few ofthe many hundreds of letters on file atthe laboratory, which show that Scott'Owners' are regularly bringing in pro-grams from every corner of the globe.Your order for a custom built SCOTTFULL RANGE HIGH FIDELITYALLWAVE receiver will be taken withthe distinct understanding you will beallowed thirty days after you receive it'in your home, to test its performanceagainst any other re-ceiver. If it does notbring in more for-eign' stations, withgreater volume, thanany 'other receiver, you have the priv-ilege Of returning it(you to pay trans-portation charges) ,and your money willbe promptly re-funded.

"I have accomplishedsome real DX with myFull Range Scott. Togive you a little exam-ple of what I mean, itmust be taken intoconsideration that I al-

Anyway, using the Full RangeI have logged and sent out reports toexactly 83 new foreign stations sinceSeptember 1st. I now have 60 countriesrepresenting all continents verified. Iam happy to state that I have now beenawarded all the highest degree DX cer-tificates. They include HAC, TA, TP,WW and DSW."

John DeMyer, Lansing, Michigan.

"SCOTT MOST CONSERVATIVE ADVERTISERHE HAS EVER KNOWN"

"TUNES IN JAVA STATION EACH MORNING"

"I get ZBW every morning. Java andAustralia come in every day uniformly.I can see now that you didn't do any-thing slight oJ hand when you made arecord every day for a year of Australiawith a Scott. Anyone who owns a Scottcould do the same. I hear a Java sta-tion on 9600 kilocycles that is thestrongest of any stations in the farEast. I have tuned it in on the loudspeaker for the last two weeks, duringthe breakfast hour. They have a beauti-ful program of classical music equal toGermany and Hungary. It is a new sta-tion. I have twenty reports out on it."Thomas Van Auken, Livingston, Texas.

"REMARKABLE DAYLIGHT RECEPTION"

"It is the most powerful receiver Ihave ever had the privilege to see andhear. The 19 meter stations are re-ceived with knockout volume. GSFDaventry, DJB Berlin, PCJ Huizen,Holland, Radio Coloniale, Pontoise,France, HAS3 Budapest, Hungary onSundays as well as HVJ, Vatican City,Rome, are all heard consistently. On 16meters GSG, Pontoise, DJE, W2XE,W3XAL, are received almost daily. On25 meters, Pontoise,. France, W8XK,GSE, Daventry, DJD, Berlin, PHI,Netherlands, HJ4ABA, Medellin, Col.,are received daily. One of the best sta-tions of the South American group isCEC, Santiago, Chile. I got a big thrillwhen I heard TFJ at Reykjavik, Ice-land, on Sunday. I have heard two newGerman stations not listed in short wavelogs: DJI, about 9.8 megacycles, andDJJ, about 10.030 megacycles. aRK,Belgium, is received well at times, as isDIQ, Nauen, Germany, on 10.29 mega-cycles. On 31 meters EAQ, 2RO Rome,CTIAA Portugal, HP5J Panama City,VK2ME Sydney, Australia, and GSCDaventry, are all received well. I cannotbegin to list all the Latin American sta-

tions heard between 40 and 50 meters, but I can say a word or two about theselectivity on the crowded 49 meter sta-tions. You can separate at will anystation in this band. This feat has notas far as I know been duplicated withany other receiver, which shows beyonda doubt that the Scott is by far superiorto any other made today."

Lester Donnel, Shelbyville, Illinois.

"I am surprised at my Scott's daylightreception ability. Last Saturday after-noon I received 40 stations within anhour, all the way from Cuba to Minne-apolis, Minnesota. I was never able toget out of the state of Florida duringdaylight with any other radio that Ihave owned."

"REALIZES LONG SOUGHT DX RECORDWITH HIS SCOTT"

"A pleasure I have had with·the re-ceiver has been the realization of a longsought ambition, namely, to make a col-lection of verifications over one year's

time on receptions from Australia. Al-though I was forced through illness tocut this period short at the first ofApril after eleven months, I feel thatI have succeeded in some measure. Iam now in the process of writing upmy last reports to stations VK2ME,VK3ME and VK3LR for my last veri-fications which should be in my handsat least by the end of August or Sep-tember. The figures which I obtainedare as follows:Received-

"LOGS AVERAGE OF 75 FOREIGNSTATIONS DAILY"

"As you know, DXing on the foreignshort waves is a hobby of mine, for Ilog daily an average of about 75 for-eign stations from all parts of theworld. When I say log, I mean that Icheck the signal strength and readabil-ity of each of these stations and havekept a daily record for over four years.Apparently the reception reports I sendthe British, German, and the ItalianBroadcasting Systems have been inter-esting because they now send me spe-cial forms on which to report receptionfrom their stations, and occasionallythey cable me to check special test pro-grams for tone and make phonographrecordings so that they have first handinformation on their signal strengthand quality. I have tried a great manydifferent makes of AIlwave receivers, and there is no question in my mindbut what a Scott is years ahead in sen-sitivity, selectivity, and quality of toneof any other DX receiver on the mar-ket today.

If you have anyone in the Chicagoarea that doubts foreign stations arereceived on a Scott regularly and withas much volume, and as clear as localstations, just refer them to me, and Iwill be glad to show them what a goodset will do."

THE selectivity or the ability of a receiver to separate tivity can be secured from as sharp as 2 k.c. up to as broad as. stations is generally definitely fixed on the ordinary type 16 k.c. WHAT OUR FIVE YEAR GUARANTEEMEANS TO SCOTT OWNERS

WHEN you buy a new radio receiver you want tohave absolute assurance: (1) That the instrument

is so ruggedly built that it will operate continuouslyover a long period of time; (2) That when service isneeded on receiver, it is easily and quickly available;and (3) That the manufacturer will stand squarely backof his guarantee.

Answering (1), owners of Scott custom built receiv-ers are guaranteed against defects in material or work-manship for a period of five whole years. This simplymeans that if. any part becomes defective during thistime, it will be replaced free. Such a guarantee has beengiven with every Scott receiver sold during the pastseven years, for we know they are so ruggedly and care-fully built, that replacements are rarely necessary ..

"KNOWS OUR GUARANTEE MEANS WHATIT SAYS"

"When I think of what I have paidfor so-called service on previous receiv-ers I have owned arid invariablv hadthem come back with something elsewrong, my experience with the Scottis conclusive proof that your guaranteeis a guarantee in spirit as well as inwords, and that you really have thebest interests of your customers atheart. To bring the chassis of a re-ceiver in that is two years 'old and thenreceive it back in a condition as goodas when it was purchased, is a new ex-perience to me, especially when thisservice is rendered without cost."

THE SCOTT NEWS

'THE PERFORMANCE OF. SCOTT CUSTOM BUILTRECEIVERS GREATER 'THAN WE CLAIM-

SAY OWNERS OF SCOTT RECEIVERSIN THE last analysis it is no~ what

a man himself says about hIS ownproduct that matters so much, as whatthe purchasers of it find after they haveused it over a period of time.

There are four traditions we have atthe Scott Radio Laboratories: (1) Tobuild a radio receiver of such advanceddesign that it will merit its reputation asthe World's Finest Radio Receiver; (2)To be absolutely accurate at all timeswhen describing the various features ofour receiver; (3) To be conservative i?describing the degree of performance Itwill give its owner; (4) To be ready. atall times to prove beyond all questIonevery printed statement and everyclaim made.

Many visitors to the laboratories areamazed when they read through the vol-umes of unsolicited letters I have re-teived from Scott owners. The lettersbelow will show that when a custombuilt Scott receiver is put to the testin its owner's home, it always measuresup to every claim made for it.

"WHAT A SCOTT OWNER SINCE 1927 SAYS"

"I have been using Scott built radiossince 1927, when I bought your batteryoperated 10 tube receiver, and somehowthey always do more than you claim,After listening to the new --- and---, I would not exchange my pres-ent Scott for both of them; the onlyreason that I am parting with it nowafter three years of constant use is be-cause I am buying another Scott, myfifth Scott-built radio."W. McGrath, Port Angeles, Washington.

"AT LAST HE TRIED A SCOTT"

"To tell the truth, I was more or lessin doubt as to just what kind of resultsI would get from my receiver. I hadread so many advertisements by variousradio companies regarding the wonder-ful reception possible with their receiv-ers but always when I tried them out

~as greatly disappointed. This is cer-cainly not true of the Scott, for everyword of description contained in yourfolders and letters has been upheld bythe remarkable results obtained."

Dan Hoffman, South Bend, Indiana.

"FIRST RECEIVER TO FULFn.L ALL CLAIMS"

"The first receiver, to my knowledge, that fulfills all claims made for it byits producer."

G. Eichmann, Hyattsville, Maryland.

"WE UNDERSTATE PERFORMANCE"

"The performance of the set has jus-tified all of your claims. It is morethan I anticipated and you can appr~-ciate to what extent I really mean thISwhen I say that I ordered the set withquite a few mental reservations: I be-lieve I am inclined to be a bIt morecritical than perhaps the average pur-chaser, but everything you have saidhas been borne out 100 per cent. Infact, judged by the performance I amgetting, you are inclined to und~;state-ment rather than overstatement.W. F. Stockwell, Ardmore, Pennsylvania.

"NOW UNDERSTANDS ENTHUSIASM OFSCOTT OWNERS"

"An honest confession is good for thesoul. This letter comes to you unso-licited; therefore, I trust that you willbe kind enough to take what I say forgranted. You will remember,. if youkeep a record of your prospectIve cus-tomers that I sent you a card sometwo 0; three years ago on which Ipasted a cut out from a magazine inwhich the Scott receiver was advertised.I had heard about it, but I was tooskeptical to believe that there was anytruth in the statements made as to"fidelity" and "pure tone," etc. I sentthe card to you purely for curiosity'ssake-I wanted to find out how such amachine was built. I did so, and youvery kindly sent me your literature.

In This Group Are the Highly Skilled Tech-nicians and Staff of the E. H. Scott

Radio Laboratories.

You continued sending me your litera-ture and my attention became so fixedon it that I decided to try it-to dis-prove the claims made by your labora-tory. While I was skeptical at first, Ihad not listened ten minutes before Irealized what you had predicted. I hadnever heard anything like it before! Norwas that all. Foreign stations came in asstrongly as local. In my humble judg-ment I must compliment you as a radioengineer for devising a set that is sopowerful and so true in reproduction. You have a superior machine, and I canwell understand why it is that the own-ers themselves are really the best rec-ommendations you have."

George C. Poret, Murray, Kentucky.

"ACTUAL RESULTS MAKE OUR CLAIMSAPPEAR CONSERVATIVE"

"I am not inclined to be undulydemonstrative in my reactions. A rathernotable exception, however, has beenforced upon me after the first few daysof experience with my new Scott Re-ceiver. I am compelled to the admissionthat all your claims for this most pow-erful instrument are not only justified, but that actual results make them ap-pear very conservative."

H. C. McEvoy, St. Louis, Missouri.

"SCOTT EXCEPTION THAT PROVES RULE"

"The art of advertising is usuallymuch more highly developed than thearticle it sells. The Scott is'the excep-tion that proves the rule."Alfred Bruzlin, Los Angeles, California.

THE SCOTT FULL RANGE HIGH FIDELITY RECEIVERWORLD WIDE RANGE FROM 13 TO 555 METERS

THE SCOTT FULL RANGE HIGH FIDELITY RECEIVERis custom built to order-by experienced laboratory techni-

cians-in one of the most completely equipped radio laboratoriesin the country.

Over eleven years ago the first SCOTT RECEIVER establishedFour World's Records for the consistent, night after night, recep-tion of broadcast stations, not merely one or two thousand milesaway BUT STATIONS 6,000 MILES OR MORE DISTANT,and ~ince that time hardly a year has passed in which a SCOTTRECEIVER has not established new reception records. The hun-dreds of letters we have received from Scott owners, prove veryconclusively the receivers I am regularly building and shippingto owners in all parts of the world, easily duplicate these records.

A Laboratory Built InstrumentA SCOTT RECEIVER is built from the highest quality parts,

to a precision standard. It cannot be produced in large numbersby factory production methods, but only in comparatively smallnumbers by highly skilled and special trained laboratory workers.

The SCOTT FULL RANGE HIGH FIDELITY RECEIVERis a 23 tube Superheterodyne receiver with a wave length rangeof from 13 to 555 meters.

The ShieldingEvery pa~t of the receiver is completely shielded, not only

against the pick-up of unwanted signals, but the various circuitsin the receiver itself are also completely isolated and shieldedfrom the other parts of the circuit, thus giving perfect stabilityin the operation of the receiver and freedom from oscillation.

The 1. F. AmplifierIn the design of the Intermediate Frequency Amnlifier lies one

of the secrets of the remarkable performance of the new SCOTTFULL RANGE HIGH FIDELITY RECEIVER. Four stagesare used which represent the ultimate in extremely high gain, combined with absolute quietness of operation, and exceptionalSelectivity. Extreme efficiency is obtained in the 1. F. stagethrough the use of a remarkable newly developed 4 Pi. Litzen-drath coil tuned by special air condensers mounted on Isolantite.

All Tuning Controlled with Single Knob.The. tuning of all stations, both on the sh.ort waves and broad-

cast band is accomplished by a special dual ratio single knoblocated directly below the dial. When tuning on the broad casband, the dial can be rapidly turned from one end to the otherwhile by pressing the small lever underneath the knob theaction is slowed down to five times less than normal spe~d sothat. short wave stations can be tuned as quickly and easily asstatIOns on the broadcast band.

Wave Band SelectionWave bands are selected by means of an exclusive mechanical

coil changing device perfected in our Laboratory. The small leverdirectly below the tuning knobs enables you to select in a secondanyone of the four different wave bands. '

Wave Bands Coveredbetween 13 and 555 meters are covered byAll wave lengths

four wave bands. The first wave band covers the regular broadcast stations from

200 to 555 meters, or 1500 to 540 KC.The second wave band covers the wave lengths used by Police

Stations,. Airport Stations and Transmitters on Airplanes andthe 160 and 80 Meter Amateur Phone Bands.

The third wave band covers the wave lengths between 30 and75 meters. On this band will be found the principal foreign shortwave broadcast stations whose signals are heard during the latemorning, afternoon and evening.

The fourth wave band covers all wave lengths from 13 to 30meters, and on this band will be found the foreign short wavebroadcast stations whose signals are generally heard best duringthe morning hours.

The Dial Calibration. The frequencies of the four different wave bands are accuratelycalibrated directly on the dial, which is divided into four sections.

The Visual TunerA Tuning Indicator is projected directly on the face of the tun-

ing dial (this is an exclusive development of our laboratory) whichshows when a station is tuned in perfectly. When a station istuned in, simply turn up the volume 'control until the programcomes in with desired volume.

Page 15: eott ews - americanradiohistory.com...JVM apa netted some Jap c oversati n. I get bet-ter reception, clearer, more sparkling, from England, Germany and France at night than I do on

The Short Wave Station LocatorOne of the difficulties experienced in tuning in short wave

stations on the regular type of allwave receiver is due to the factthat all short wave stations come in on a very small fraction ofthe dial, and until one has had considerable experience, it isdifficult to locate short wave stations. To overcome this difficulty,a Short Wave Station Locator is incorporated in the design of thenew SCOTT FULL RANGE HIGH FIDELITY RECEIVERwhich makes the tuning of the short wave bands as easy as thebroadcast band.

Volume Automatically ControlledOnce the volume is set at the desired level, it is kept there

automatically in the new SCOTT FULL RANGE HIGH FIDEL-ITY RECEIVER by the perfected Automatic Volume Controlsystem incorporated in its design, which holds the volume ofsignals from stations near and distant at a practically constantlevel. h' .T e Selecttvtty

The Selectivity of the new SCOTT FULL RANGE HIGHFIDELITY RECEIVER is continuously variable from 2 to16 KC. This means you have at your control ample Selectivityto separate any broadcast stations using frequencies within 10 KC.of each other, regardless of power or location.

VIEW UNDER CHASSIS

The SensitivityTo bring in distant broadcast stations requires great usable

sensitivity. For example: A receiver may have fractional micro-volt sensitivity, but if a large percentage of that sensitivity isnoise created in the receiver itself, it may reduce the usablesensitivity anywhere from 250/0 to 75 0/0. High sensitivity com-bined with a low noise level, is most difficult to attain, but in thisnew receiver you will find sensitivity, usable sensitivity of sucha high order that it is a simple matter to bring in stations thou-sands of miles distant, and listen to them with pleasure.

THE POWER AMPLIFIER

Perfect Undistorted ToneSCOTT RECEIVERS have always been noted for their very

beautiful tone. However, constant research has enabled us in theSCOTT ~ULL RANGE HIGH FIDELITY RECEIVER .to pro-duce an mstrument that has even finer tone than any previousmodel we have ever built.

When you are listening to avoice, you hear that voice soclearly and naturally, that if youclose your eyes it is not a diffi-cult task to imagine that the per-son is standing talking to you, face to face.

You will find when you arelistening to an orchestra that youwill hear instruments in thelower and higher ranges that youhave never before heard comingfrom the speaker of any radioreceiver. You will hear violins, trumpets, cymbals and other in-struments just as naturally asyou would hear them if theorchestra were in front of you. When you listen to a piano, youwill hear the notes of the pianocoming from your speaker asclearly as if the pianist were I. F. TRANSFORMER UNITplaying in your own room for you. TUNED BY AIR CONDENSERS

All Parts Guaranteed Against Defectfor Fi"e Years

The SCOTT FULLRANGE HIGH FIDEL-ITY RECEIVER is builtfrom such high qualityparts; the actual build-ing of it is done by suchhighly skilled techni-cians ; all units so im-pregnated and treated toprotect them against theeffects of moisture andall adjustments so care-fully made and perma-nently fixed that we be-lieve no part of this re-ceiver will ever breakdown.

COILS IN WAVE CHANGER Every SCOTT RE-. CEIVER produced dur-mg the past seven years has carried a Five Year Guarantee andmany hundreds of them have been in constant use for years' andare today still serving their 'owners and giving themperfect satisfaction innearly every part of theworld.

All coils are impregnatedby a special process whichassures that they will re-tain their characteristicsand remain constant evenin humid tropical climates.
