The ‘drown’ test (the Navy calls it a swim test) and, just as important, a medical clearance mean that a fraction of the scientific community will NOT be able to fly on the plane.

EOL Technical Development for RAINEX

• Download NOAA P3 LF data and upload LF images to NRL P3– Critical steps have been outlined

• Dropsonde capability– Intend to use the AXBT shoot with a modified

dropsonde insert

• Mobile ELDORA data processing capability– Post processing on a laptop

• Real-time display and control of the ELDORA system– Replace the proprietary VME hardware with

Linux PC based system (100Mbit ethernet)

Action Items

• Finalize the LF data transfer task list, identify responsible party and cost estimate

• Data transfer between Tampa and UM

• Identify acceptable means to display LF data in the flight deck

• Establish in-flight decision making procedure between pilots, flight scientist, and navigator on NRL P3
