The basic targets and main axes of the activities of Neotech Water Solutions are the development and construction of innovative systems which provide effective solutions to the problem of wastewater treatment and waste management in general. The systems and technical solutions which Neotech offer are designed and materialized with the most up-to-date methods of CAD/CAM while the technology that is used is the most advanced, reliable and innovative that is applied internationally for wastewater treatment.

With “PACKAGED” plants that Neotech manufactures, offers unique solutions to the increasing demand for the treatment of wastewater by small Municipalities and Communities as well as by Industry. The clever and functional design featured in these plants, together with the innovative technologies used (M.B.B.R. & M.B.R.) Lead to systems with a high performance rate and low running costs in a very compacted form.

In order to develop innovative products and technical solutions Neotech cooperates with various academic bodies and specialized scientists. Also, to ensure that the performance and efficiency of the plants produced the company employs and operates special pilot plants which are monitored and checked by laboratory analysis on an intensive and scientific basis.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF HYDROX

SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANTS

The Hydrox System is based on the moving

bed bio reactor and tube settl ing

technologies, and is unique due to its

compactness and performance with respect

to Volumetric efficiency. These technologies

are combined in prefabricated, skid

mounted standardized tank system with

variable length, suitable for overseas

transportation. The overall size of the plants

are based on the ISO freight containers.

Neotech offer a number of standard model

ranging from 20-500 m3/day, which are

divided into two categories and two formats:

Hydrox Series, introduces high rate

bioreactors for efficient BOD removal (85-

95%), incorporated into a small compact

pack.

Hydrox Ultra Series, is a high efficiency

membrane based technology, incorporated

MBBR with MBR for higher BOD removal

(90-95%), all in containerized packaged

plants.

Both Series are constructed in the NEOMAX

FORMAT for both indoor and outdoor

location providing higher treatment capacity.

DESIGN CRITERIA

The design of a WWTP must be based on

real data concerning the flow rates and

constituent loadings of the wastewater to be

treated, as well as the local effluent

discharge criteria. However, for the

preliminary design of a treatment plant, one

can assume the loading values which derive

from statical measurements with respect to

small towns and communities. The hydraulic

The prefabricated “Hydrox Ultra” compact Bio-Plants are completely autonomous and provide a very high level of

treatment (Biological Treatment + Ultra filtration + Disinfection). These systems combine together the MBBR and

SMBR submerged Membrane Bio-Reactor) innovative technologies.

With the “Hydrox Ultra” Bio Plant system, Neotech successfully manages to balance the need for an easy to

operate, compact and reliable treatment unit with the need for a high effluent quality. The “Hydrox Ultra” system

utilizes flat sheet or hollow fibre ultrafiltration (UF) membrane with a mean pore size of 0.05 micron. The

membranes are supplied by first class manufacturers and can produce high flux rates without suffering from fouling.

The “Hydrox Ultra” Bio Plants due to the combined use of attached bio-film process (MBBR) and the sMBR

technology achieve lower specific energy efficiency compared to conventional MBR systems due to lower MLSS

concentration in the bio reactors. Hydrox Ultra 2D series with complete nitrification/de-nitrification gives high rate of

biodegradation.

PRETREATMENT SYSTEM

It is assumed that the sewage piping system arrives at a self-cleaning screen and discharge into a combined tank

which provides grease-grit interception and inflow equalisation. This system, separates paper, sanitary binds, oil &

grease and other large suspended solids. The buffer capacity must be sufficient enough to level out the daily peak

flows. Neotech Water Solutions recommend for the plant capacities larger thank 600 PE (1200 m3/day) to install the

fully automated packaged pre-treatment plants which combine fine screening and grease removal system.

BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT SYSTEM

The wastewater is directed to the plant by means of feed pump. The feed pump is level controlled and its capacity is

1.5 to 2.0 times the average daily flow. Therefore, the plant has an intermittent mode of operation in terms of

hydraulic flow, whereas the operation of the air blower is continuous.

Our systems comprise 2 aerobic bioreactors and a final clarification stage and provide high rate BOD removal. For

higher BOD removal efficiency and satisfactory total nitrogen reduction, two additional bioreactors are needed, one

aerobic for nitrification and one anoxic for denitrification. In the bioreactors a portion of the dissolved organic carbon

is directly oxidized into CO gas, which escapes to the air, whereas the remaining organic matter is converted into 2

new biomass (activated sludge). The plant utilizes a pre-denitrification operating mode. The wasewater is nitrified

(i.e. NH is initially oxidized to NO and then to NO ) in the third aerobic comparment and the mixed liquor is 24 3

subsequently returned by means of recirculation pump to the upfront anoxic reactor. In the anoxic zone, with the

presence of organic carbon from the incoming raw wastewater and the action of specific denitrifying bacteria, NO is 3

converted to nitrogen gas, which escapes to the atmosphere.

SLUDGE HANDLING

The biologically treated wastewater flows into a clarification chamber where the suspended solids

(activated sludge) settle by gravity in a high-rate clarifier incorporating tube settler to increase the

specific sedimentation area. The supernatant is overflow through a V-Notch weir into an effluent

channel and then to discharge pipe. The settled sludge is recycled as activated sludge at a low rate

into the bioreactors via a sludge pump while the excess sludge is discharged periodically to waste for

further treatment. This sludge handling is managed by Programmable Logic Centre and is adjusted to

suit the needs of the process. The wasted sludge can be either collected and temporary stored in a

tank and then tankered away by a vacuum truck for further treatment or it can be treated on site by

proper dewatering systems.

EQUIPMENT & MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

All metal constructions have a heavy-duty surface protection system. The surfaces that are

submerged in the wastewater are specifically treated with sand blasting and multi-strength min DFT

500 micron. All submerged parts are either Stainless Steel or High quality UPVC/PVC. All mechanical

/Electrical equipments are of high quality and efficiency from certified manufacturers. The equipment

maintenance is easy and the required spare parts are widely available. The air blower is either

centrifugal (side-channel) or rotary lobe type. The mixed liquor pump is of horizontal centrifugal type

with an open type impeller and the sludge pump can be either a positive displacement type or a

centrifugal type suitable for viscous fluids. The vertical mixer inthe anoxic chamber is made of

stainless steel and is driven by slow speed gear motor.
