1. STATEMENT OF THE CREDIBILITY OF ENVIRONMENTAL DATA

The EMAS environmental statement for the period from January 1st to Decem-ber 31st 2008 refers to the operation of the companies Gorenje, d.d., and Goren-je I.P.C., d.o.o. It is an addition to the EMAS statement of the companies Gorenje, d.d., and Gorenje I.P.C., d.o.o., for the year 2006. All information and facts includ-ed in the EMAS environmental statement are credible and reflect the actual con-dition of the environment management system at both companies concerned.

In 2003, the parent company Gorenje, d.d., adjusted its operations to the EMAS requirements according to the EU Regulation No. 761/2001. In 2006, the compa-ny Gorenje I.P.C., d.o.o., joined the system. Operation of the EMAS system was evaluated in April 2009 by the Slovenian Institute of Quality and Metrology (SiQ); according to its findings, the system is compliant with the requirements of the EMAS Regulation.

4. DEVELOPMENTThe year 2008 was marked with the largest development project in the last two years in the Cooking Appliances Program, as an entire new generation of cooking appliances was developed, based on innovative technologies, excellent ergonom-ics, care for the environment and user-friendly management. Two patents were applied for and approved in this regard:

the inclination of the top oven surface – also related to this extraordinary fea-•ture of the oven is the patented original solution for the top heater placed in two height levels, in order to fit the inclination; patent related to temperature effects of oven operation on the environment – •patented cooling system of the oven enables that the cold air moves between the furniture and the oven instead of the hot air.

The development of the new minimalistic collection of Gorenje Ora-Ïto applianc-es with trendy designed in white continued the successful story with the French Designer; the white collection is expected to repeat, or even exceed the success of the black hit collection that precedes it. The appliances are ranked in the high-est, “A” energy classes and offer all modern user functions. They are distinctive for the uniform appearance of the front decorative panels which are covered entire-ly in white glass and handles made of honeycombed aluminum in stainless steel version.

The notable development achievements also include the new generation of con-denser dryers of the B energy class. The transition to the higher energy class has been enabled by the innovative technology optimizing of air flows and recycling of the hot air developed during the drying process.

In terms of development, the company Gorenje I.P.C., d.o.o., took part in the simul-taneous development of household appliances within the parent company.

Most novelties in production technology were introduced in the Cooking Appli-ances Program in Velenje. The revision included as much as 70 percent of the cooking appliances production program, thus involving a thorough technologi-cal upgrade of the manufacturing plant. Production efficiency and flexibility were greatly improved, as was the method of work, which is more worker-friendly; this, in turn, greatly decreased the probability of error and thus improved product quality. The Cooking Appliances Program technological park was upgraded with state-of-the-art equipment.

At the MEKOM Program, rejects was considerably decreased, and improvements were made in terms of use of material and equipment capacity.

At Gorenje I.P.C., information support improved the level of traceability of instal-lation of individual components. Workplaces are adapted to the level of disabled persons employed, which improved the productivity, as well as quality of prod-ucts and services.

5. SUITABILITY ASSESSMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

The joint policy of integrated environment protection system in compliance with the ISO 14001 standard and the occupational health and safety system in com-pliance with the OHSAS 18001 standard was adopted by Gorenje, d.d., on Feb-ruary 15th 2006. Through a decision on the implementation of an integrated sys-tem of environment protection and occupational health and safety at the com-pany Gorenje I.P.C., d.o.o., and Gorenje Orodjarna, d.o.o., a policy was adopted on March 13th 2007, which reflects the unified approach at the parent compa-ny Gorenje, d.d. and the subsidiaries Gorenje I.P.C., d.o.o., and Gorenje Orodjar-na, d.o.o.

It is considered that the policy from 2007 reflects the actual status and condition of environmental impacts and the related environment protection targets; hence, it did not require any revision in 2008.

6. IDENTIFICATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS AND ASSESSMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

In 2008, re-identification and reevaluation of environmental aspects and re-esti-mation of environmental impacts, was not required; therefore, environmental as-pects register from 2007 remained valid and effective in both companies.

1.14Meeting environment protection targets at the Velenje site

The volume of hazardous waste generated in the year amounted to 0.14 kilograms per product, which is the same as in the year before. The target value of 0.13 kil-ogram per product was not attained. The deviation from the target amounted to 7.7 percent. The reason for this is slower-than-expected decrease of the amount of waste sludge from the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant, as volatile produc-tion orders (resulting from the economic crisis) does not allow the optimization of the waste water treatment process. The quantity of disposed waste exceeds the planned goal by 6.9 percent; however, it has remained at the 2007 level. In 2008, additional 15.54 tons of waste was generated in oil separators due to the develop-ment of a part of a land lot during the construction of the new warehouse.

In the field of effective use of energy resources, we approached the target wa-ter consumption, with deviation amounting to only 6.4 percent. The use of natu-ral gas was 11.8 percent higher than planned; the use of compressed air is 2.6 per-cent over the target value; and power consumption was 4.3 percent over the tar-get level. The reason for the excess of actual consumption over the planned val-ues is the volatile household appliance manufacturing throughput resulting from the initial impacts of the global economic crisis.

The deviations from the target values did not call for any corrective measures.

A comparison in the quantity of hazardous waste indicates an increase compared to the year before and excess over the target value by 12.9 percent. The volume was increased due to higher humidity in the waste sludge from the waste water

treatment plant, which is a result of poorer operation of the chamber filter press. We have launched the preparation of a draft plan to solve this problem.

In terms of disposed waste, we performed better than planned by 13.3 percent and the volume was reduced by 12 percent compared to the year before, owing to more consistent waste sorting.

The deviations from the target values did not call for any corrective measures.

In 2008, the INDOP Program was operating at its new location in Šoštanj for over a year, following the relocation from Velenje. The volume of hazardous and dis-posed waste generated in 2008 reflects the annual production at the Šoštanj lo-cation and it is very close to the target values.

The quantity of hazardous waste is lower than planned by 14.8 percent and the quantity of disposed waste is lower by 11.2 percent. The quantity of water used is lower than planned by 12.3 percent and power consumption is 6 percent low-er. Deviations are a result of the fact that actual production throughput was low-er than planned.

The deviations from the target values did not call for any corrective measures.

The quantity of hazardous waste was lower than planned by 11 percent while the quantity of disposed waste was reduced by 21 percent. This is a result of more consistent and committed waste separation and constant activities at the Graph-ics Program. Use of water is lower than planned by 36 percent and the use of pow-er is higher by 9 percent.
