Program Overview 

University College offers the career-relevantEnvironmental Policy and Management programonline and on campus, or in a combination ofboth. Students discover how to work effectively

 within the environmental field through ourapproach of blending the fundamentals ofenvironmental science and technology to developsound environmental policies, apply practicalknowledge, and develop an ethical managementphilosophy. Ideal for busy professionalsinterested in expanding or acquiring knowledgeabout natural resources, nuclear power, energy,sustainability, or environmental health andsafety, this program offers a hands-on approachin project-oriented classes. Students will developa better understanding of environmentalmanagement, ethics, and policy with an

emphasis on the development of sound policies,practical applications of knowledge, and anethical management philosophy.

 Whether pursuing a master’s degreeconcentration or a graduate certificate,students discover how to work effectively withand within diverse organizations, businesses,and communities in addressing environmentalproblems and forging solutions. In addition,students have the advantage of working withinstructors who practice in the environmentalpolicy and management field. Many of ourinstructors head agencies and consultingfirms charged with putting knowledge, currentpractices, and the latest technology to work.

Environmental Policy and Management Outcomes

This program prepares students to: 

• Develop and demonstrate a higher awareness of environmental ethics including the responsibleexercise of individual judgment, civic responsibility, and honesty in dealing with environmentalissues

• Understand the importance and application of the science of ecology and its impact on thecultural and social creation of humans and earth’s physical and biological system

• Demonstrate a solid background in business management, environmental policy, publiccommunication and involvement, and work toward the integration of environmental improvement 

• Clearly articulate the roles of legislatures, rule-making bodies, and regulatory enforcementagencies in environmental protection and management 

• Display critical thinking processes: analyze, understand, and evaluate environmental issues inorganizations including educating the public and instituting collaborative decision-making onissues involving the levels of acceptable risks and degree, intensity, and acceptability of theenvironment 

• Apply advanced methods such as life-cycle cost analyses, impact assessment, decision making,science, economics, finance, etc., in an integrative approach to craft informed decisions aboutcomplex environmental problems and challenges

Credits earned in a certificate program can be applied toward a master’s degree in EnvironmentalPolicy and Management. Graduate certificate students will take four required concentration coursesand then either select two courses from the further studies option or select two courses offered in anyof the other program concentrations, program foundation courses, or the research course.

The concentration is designed for profession-als whose primary interest is the managementof natural resources for organizations whichplan or regulate the use of natural resources,
