Environmental Management Plan

During Construction Phase The proposed expansion in existing plant of Maa Banjari Ispat Private Ltd. Plot No. 123, Sector –C, OP Jindal Industrial Park, Village- Punjipatra, Tahsil- Gharghoda, Ditrict Raigarh Chhattisgarh state for which adequate precautions are to be taken during the preliminary stage of construction of proposed project activity so as to minimize the possible adverse impacts on the ecosystem. However, control of pollution during initial planning, design, and construction stage is of considerable importance. Wherever applicable, detailed procedures will be developed for control of pollution during operation of proposed project. The following factors require control during the proposed project Construction phase. i Site Preparation

the site preparation is not required as site is already developed.

ii Sanitation For the proposed project about 70 persons will be working at the proposed project site.

The site has been provided with sufficient and suitable toilet facilities to allow proper standards of hygiene for construction workers. Domestic Waste water disposal system is already there a septic tank with soak pit has been done at the site. These facilities are well designed and maintained to ensure minimum environmental impact. Adequate drinking water is provided for onsite workers.

iii Noise The Noise effect on nearest villages during the project operations will be negligible. However, noise control measures are applied at appropriate steps for the workers at site, the most effective being control at the source. The main source in Induction Furnace panel which is housed on enclosed chamber with enough noise attenuation majors.

iv Construction Equipments, Transportation and Waste

Generation It will be ensured that both petrol and diesel powered vehicles are properly maintained to minimise smoke in the exhaust emissions. Unauthorized dumping of waste is prohibited.

Environmental Management Plan

v Storage of Hazardous Substances The construction material will be stored at the site during construction and ground leveling operations. These materials will be stored as per accepted national safety standards. No Hazardous substance is required to be stored at the Construction site.

vi Land Environment

There will no change in present land use. During Process Operations Air Environment As mentioned in earlier sections, the air pollution impact from the proposed Induction Furnace will be mainly due to SPM and CO emissions from different process units, the unit will install Bag Filters and de-dusting systems to various process unit for controlling dust emissions. Although, the predicted impact of emissions will be marginal, a two stage mitigation approach need to be implemented for further control of air pollution impact around the project site. The first stage will be at the source itself to mitigate the emissions to the extent possible and the second stage would be to attenuate the air pollutants through greenbelt development. The following measures are recommended to control the emissions at the sources: On commencement of proposed project activities in OP Jindal

Industrial Park, the land use pattern is not likely to be altered to be altered as it is an approved industrial park and the ambient air quality is not likely to get affected significantly as there will not be any fuel used in the process of melting and casting.

All the forms of fugitive dust emission should be properly controlled.

A greenbelt of suitable width will be developed along the boundary of the project site office, storage units and roads with scientifically selected species. It is proposed maintain around 33% green Belt in the area.

Environmental Management Plan

Noise Environment Noise generating sources after commencement of proposed

Induction furnace project of company should be maintained properly to minimise Noise and vibrations.

Noise Generating Equipments should be installed on anti vibration pads.

Noise barriers / shields in the form of walls, berms will be provided around the units wherever found feasible. Use of ear muffs and other protection devices by the staff in noise prone areas will be recommended. Noise enclosures around noise sources will be provided depending on the size of the unit and feasibility.

Adequate greenbelt will be developed for control of noise levels effectively.

Water Environment

Treatment and disposal facilities for sewage generated at the industrial project site and hazardous and solid wastes before commissioning of the project activity. Should be completed.

The treated effluent shall conform to the stipulations of State PCB and shall be reused to the maximum extent, so as to conserve natural resources. For effective environmental pollution control due to various activities of proposed expansion project, the following points may also be considered: Will be monitored of discharge from industrial operations

for pH, temperature, flow BOD, COD & S.S. All attempts will be made for reuse of the treated

wastewater, ultimately leading to the zero discharge for the conservation of natural resources.

All necessary in-plant measures will be implemented for control or reduction of the total wastewater generation and ultimately raw water requirement.

The sanitary sewage will to be properly treated in septic tanks / soak pits.

Land Environment

Land Environment related EMP for the proposed expansion in Induction furnace project of Company is simple on account of the plain land without too many rocky and undulant structures

within the industrial area. The project proponent will develop a green belt in the surrounding areas and along the exterior boundary of the project site. Local plant species as depicted in earlier sections may be selected for the development in the project area. About 33% of the land area will be under Green Belt.

Socio-Economic Environment

With the commencement of proposed expansion in Induction furnace project, general infrastructure facilities in the region shall improve benefiting the community as such. However, in order to improve the socio-economic environment under the community development programme and improvement of the quality of life of the people, the company may further examine the possibility of providing some of the welfare measures listed below: Local manpower is preferred for employment depending

upon their merit and qualifications. Supports to the local village community in Health camps,

medical Aids. Assist in tree plantation program. Assistance in cultural & social Activities.

Post-project Environmental Monitoring Air Environment

emission is only from one stack connected to Induction furnace smoke hood. The second furnace Hood will also be connected with the Common Chimney and Bag Filter. Periodic Monitoring of stack emissions are required on quartely basis; as there is no Fuel used in it.

The ambient air quality will be measured in future, at two sampling locations as per the predominant wind direction in different seasons has to be identified for regular SPM, other gaseous pollutants for monitoring.

Noise Environment

Monitoring of the noise levels and exposures is essential to assess the environmental management plan implemented to reduce noise levels. A good quality integrated sound level meter and noise exposure meter may be procured for the same.

Environmental Management Plan

Audiometric tests will be conducted periodically for the employees working close to the noise sources.

Water Environment

Effluent, process wastewater and domestic sewage wastewater will be analyzed regularly for the parameters given below :- Temperature pH Suspended Solids Dissolved Oxygen Conductivity Turbidity Oil and Grease Chloride Sulphide COD and BOD Monitoring equipments proposed for the environmental laboratory are as follows: pH meter Turbidity meter Dissolved oxygen analyser Conductivity meter BOD incubator

Methods of sample collection and preservation should be as per IS:2488 (1966, 68, 74). Methods prescribed in “Standard Methods for Examination of Water and Wastewater“ preparation and published jointly by American Public Health Association (APHA), American Water Works Association (AWWA) and Water Pollution Control Federation (WPCF); Manual on Water and Wastewater Analysis published by NEERI, Nagpur are recommended.

Environment Management in General The ground water in the neighboring areas will be analyzed for the relevant parameters presented under baseline information. The average canopy height of the greenbelt, number and types of plant species will be monitored. Air and noise pollution attenuation achieved by the greenbelt will also be evaluated.
