Policy Deployment and Steering Committee

In view of the next decade, we set our basic environmental strategy and target figures, in accordance withour groupwide Ecology and Safety (E&S) Vision and E&S Basic Policy. Furthermore, each internal and groupcompany will reflect the targets and measures in our mid-term (three-year) management plan to its ISO14001 projects and annual policies. The groupwide issues related to environmental policy and strategy are discussed and decided upon by theE&S Promotion Committee, chaired by the President. Panel members are internal company heads anddirectors in charge of individual functions, and the secretariat is operated by the Corporate Ecology & Safety. As for particular environmental activities, the E&S Promotion Study Group at each internal company andmain site investigates and helps with implementation. We placed the E&S Promotion Panel, which is aimed atclearing the hurdles before our environmental policy, and the Recycling Promotion Panel, which is formed toupgrade our resource recycling process, under the E&S Promotion Committee, in an effort to effectively carryout our basic strategy and plans through the internal company-structure.

Environmental Management Committee Conference

At the Document Product Company (DPC) delivers copiers andprinters. The Supply Business Company (SBC) handles supplies. Weestablished divisions dedicated to our products’ recycling andenvironmental safety.

Staff mainly from the management quality promotional division andthe general affairs department, are positioned at sales/servicecompanies and major sites, and they help internal company headsand managers maintain our environmental policy.

At the E&S Promotion Panel, there is a meeting that investigatesproduction plants’ efforts to conserve energy and reduce waste, andalso evaluates the environmental consciousness and safety of ourproducts. In regard to crucial companywide issues, such asdevelopment of a LCA system, we have organized a special task team.

The Recycling Promotion Panel is held by internal companies and divisions concerned with theproduct lifecycle. The panel prompts our resource recycling activities widely.

We hold this workshop every year, summoning heads of Fuji Xerox’s internal companies, majordivisions and group companies. It is aimed at strengthening our environmental management throughpolicy development and case studies.

Our environmental managers in charge of establishing and implementing the ISO 14001 environmentalmanagement system from the heads and managers of internal companies and group companies, gather together once a year. Compliance with Laws and Regulations

It is our duty to comply with environmental laws and regulations by placing top priority on health and safetyas a part of our business activities. To realize a sustainable society globally, various frameworks are built andthe requirements of environmental labels on products which are widely recognized by customers arereviewed. It is necessary for us to develop our systems based on such changes in social trends for continualbusiness activities. We acknowledge these laws and regulations are the minimum standard. In line with our Ecology and SafetyVision and E&S Basic Policy, our various committees, panels and responsible divisions work to establishinternal regulations and standards, which reflect future requirements of the society at large and ourcustomers. We also confirm the status of compliance. In FY 2001, we did not face any violations or lawsuits.

ISO 14001

Development of Environmental Management System (EMS) by All Group

We introduced ISO 14001 as the basis for our EMS. The following are our basic concepts:1. Contribution to the satisfaction of our stakeholders and especially customers by development of our EMS2. Development based on the decisions made by the managing directors of each site or organization

The following are the characteristics of our group EMS in which the above concepts are embodied:1. Integrating business operations into environmental management, site/organization functions in all life

cycle of environmentally conscious products and services (planning/research, development/design,procurement/manufacturing, delivery/sales, customer usage, maintenance, collection, and recycling) arealso included in scope of our EMS.

2. EMS is constructed in all our sites and organizations, and each site manager’s ideas are reflected in itsenvironmental policies.

Domestic

In FY 2001, we have acquiredcertification at 28 sites includinginternal companies, group/salescompanies such as domestic directsales and/or maintenance service. In FY 2002, we plan to acquirecertification at the headquarters, 11sales companies, and Fuji XeroxImaging Materials (Toyamaprefecture) which started operatingin December 2001.On the other hand, Fuji Xerox OfficeSupply which first certified indomestic non-manufacturing siteshad a renewal audit in February 2002and received high evaluation forelectronic environmentalmanagement manual and itscertification was renewed.

Overseas

At overseas manufacturing sites,Taiwan (Taoyuan) factory and Korea(Bupyeong) factory acquiredISO14001 certification in FY 2001, bywhich all manufacturing sites havebeen already certified. In terms of non-manufacturing sites,we plan to acquire ISO14001with FujiXerox Asia Pacific, Thai Fuji Xeroxand Fuji Xerox Korea according toeach country’s actual condition.

Group Audit Method of DomesticSales Companies

Apart from the two sites certifiedindividually earlier, we requestedJACO, Japan Audit and CertificationOrganization for Environment andQuality, to conduct group audit first inJapan for smoother acquiring ISO14001 certification at 31 domesticsites. One group consists of 3-7 sitesin consideration of their regionalityand 7 groups were formed in all. Ofthese, four groups (20 sites) hadgroup audits in FY 2001.

Advantages of group audit are asfollows:

1. The volume of printing materialswas reduced by half throughstandardization of environmental
