Course on Environmental Aspects of Dredging An International course in co-operation with CEDA, IADC and HCT Sponsored by National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) 10 - 11 December 2012, Abu Dhabi Location: Abu Dhabi Men’s College, Faculty of Civil Engineering from the Higher Colleges of Technology LEARNING OBJECTIVES After having been presented successfully on several occasions in Europe and the Middle East, the CEDA-IADC training course ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF DREDGING will be held for the second time in Abu Dhabi. This two-day course provides an overview of the environmental aspects of dredging, the latest technology and equipment that apply to dredging and the management of dredged material. The seminar includes presentations and workshops. WHAT’S THE COURSE ABOUT Dredging is a necessary activity in man’s development. In the right circumstances, it may also be a very useful tool for remedying past environmental interference. However by its very nature, the act of dredging and relocating dredged material has an environmental impact. It is therefore of the utmost importance that we should be able to determine what the extent of the impact may be on our environment. Evaluation of environmental impact should examine both the short- and long-term effects, as well as the sustainability of the altered environ- ment. In addition to presentations of the subjects, participants are challenged in case studies to apply the principals discussed in order to get a full understanding of the scope and importance of the environmental aspects of dredging projects, the management of dredged material and the typical legislative conditions and controls im- posed by international conventions and regional agencies. This course is a co-operation effort of the Central Dredging Association (CEDA), the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) and the Faculty of Civil Engineering from the Higher Colleges of Technology. 2-day “For a responsible planning and execution of environmentally sensitive dredging projects a thorough understanding of all aspects and an integral approach are essential. This course provides a sufficiently detailed insight in all perspectives of the different stakeholders in such a project. Active participation in realistic case studies will assist the participant in their role as dedicated contributor to a sustainable development of dredging related projects.”

Then we will have dinner in the Al Hadheerah restaurant known for its superb food. While enjoying the Arabian culture in the form of a dinner show with falcons, camels, horses, singers, music and, of course, belly dancers, the Arabic cuisine is served from cooking stations, wood-fired ovens and spit roasts.
