When storing, filling, manufacturing and treating subs-tances that are hazardous to water, as for example in the chemicals industry, in transfer stations, fuelling systems or tank farms, as well as for locomotive fuelling stations, you must make sure that these substances do not end up in the groundwater. Stelcon rail load-bearing elements type EW are pre-cast concrete elements for trapping and draining liquids near to railway tracks that are hazardous to water, and in this way they protect soil and water. For this, on request, the rail load-bearing elements type EW can be equipped with a concrete finish or coating. The construction elements can be installed in just a short amount of time. The low-pore exposed concrete surface facilitates the highest degree of sealing tightness and thus ensures controlled drainage of the collecting area. Exact costing in advance, reliable scheduling and coordi-nated logistics guarantee that you will have no risk during construction. Like other pre-cast concrete elements from Stelcon, the railway track support casings are delivered ready for installation, adapted to the customer’s require-ments, and can also be reused.

Growing customer demands are challenging railway com-panies as to the cleanliness of the means of transport provided. Aggressive cleaners and polluted wastewater from exterior and interior cleaning facilities for trains must not end up in the ground water. Likewise, the Stelcon rail load-bearing elements type EW-Q, which is based on DIBt (German Institute for Civil Engineering) homologa-tion, can not only be used as trough elements for trapping and draining liquids that are hazardous to water, but also as the foundation of the hall structure, and thus save on costs and valuable construction time.

The use of single or multiple Stelcon motor vehicle load-bearing elements arranged together according to the cus-tomer’s request or requirements profile is the solution for high load-bearing capacity and liquid-tight surface sealing in truck petrol stations and SFH-facilities. The Stelcon truck casings are pre-cast concrete elements for trapping and draining liquids that are hazardous to water and that way they protect the soil and water. For requirements for ground water protection according to the WHG (German Water Resources Act), Stelcon of-fers its systems for the protection of the groundwater in connection with the European Technical Approval ETA 08/0108, which is a high load-bearing capacity and liquid-tight drainage surface pavement for storage, filling and handling facilities and petrol stations that complies with the Axiom of concern of the WHG. In the certification, the manufacture, monitoring and installation of the Stelcon pre-cast concrete elements made of liquid-tight concrete C45/55 (FDE Beton) are regulated separately and are sub-ject to regular multi-stage monitoring based on extensive testing. Due to the certification mentioned above, there is no need for a water permit qualification test. Trough elements, inlet elements and edge elements for drainage perfectly round off the system.

The Stelcon level crossing slabs System GÜP Dresden are large, wear-resistant, road surfacing within rail sidings and level crossings with the approval of Deutsche Bahn AG. The system is characterised by its noise-reducing, non-skid surface with a broom-finish construction; edge protection through a steel frame construction all round; secure position within the track area; possible additional positional stability through longitudinal dowelling and transverse securing against movement; low amount of time needed for installation; approval ZBA 6.2.6.4/93 from Deutsche Bahn AG.

The transition to other types of road construction like as-phalt, paving etc. must always be bordered with kerb-stone. Stelcon’s armoured kerbstones are very well suited for this, as their surface layer is made of armoured material and provides extra protection.

The GP Dresden level crossing slab system is the lo-gical further development of the proven GÜP Dresden system with Federal Railway Authority (EBA) homolo-gation. Like the GÜP system, this 1.95-m-long system is independent of sleeper spacing and track design and is distinguished by a durable, non-slip surface, edge protection; through a steelframe construction all round; secure positioning between the rails, high positioning stability using longitudinal dowels, prevention of lateral movement and low installation time requirements. The level crossing system is rounded out by innovative pre-vention of longitudinal slippage that does not interfere with the sleeper structural system. The transition of edge slabs to other types of road construction such as asphalt or cobbles is formed by kerbs or support kerbs.

As a technically perfect connection between rails and the road, our railway slab tracks combine the support element for tracks, traffic areas or storage areas in one construction element. The high-quality pre-cast concrete elements are practically maintenance free, because due to the high strength of the railway slab tracks, no ruts can form and therefore costly monitoring of the road surfac-ing is not necessary. The high dead weight of the slabs also guarantees the highest degree of positional stability even under extreme loads. Railway slab tracks practically have an unlimited service life and can even be removed and reused if necessary. The Stelcon slab tracks have considerably higher wear resistance than the road surfac-ing, for example asphalt or regular concrete. This can also be seen in the load carrying capacity: Railway slab tracks from Stelcon can be used with almost all loads that occur in road and rail traffic, e.g. at interstate road intersections with peak loads of up to 40,000 vehicles per day.

The railway slab tracks are rated for load model UIC 71 of Deutsche Bahn AG; an extensive range of accessories like rut fillers, drainage channels, and deflectors complete the system.

As the result of attentive market observation and com-mitted know-how, the patented light rail slab track “Tram-RF” was introduced as a logical further development of the Stelcon railway slab track with superstructure “W”. Together with the partner voestalpine Klöckner Bahn-technik GmbH, Stelcon created an economical light rail level crossing construction with the “Rheinfeder” rail fa-stening system, especially for inner-city traffic. This low-maintenance system is characterised by a high reduction of structure-borne noise emission, has practically an unli-mited service life, and can even be removed and reused if necessary. The Stelcon level crossing slabs have consi-derably greater wear-resistance than the road surfacing, like asphalt or regular concrete for example. This can also be seen in the load carrying capacity: Light rail level cros-sing slabs from Stelcon can be used with almost all loads that occur in road traffic, e.g. at interstate roads with peak loads of up to 40,000 vehicles per day

STELFUNDO® is a revolutionary system that combines track bed, rail fastening and motor vehicle road surface into a structural unit in an ideal manner. The system devel-oped in close cooperation with the rail fastening manufac-turer EDILON combines Stelcon’s decades of experience in the area of railway slab tracks with the innovative, con-tinuously elastic rail fastening of the EDILON Embedded Rail System (ERS). The trendsetting STELFUNDO® con-cept does away with any type of screw connection and is approved for the highest loads in use on main routes up to 160 kph. The high dead weight of the slabs also guarantees the highest degree of positional stability even under extreme loads. The Stelcon railway slab tracks have considerably greater wear-resistance than the road surfacing, such as asphalt or regular concrete for exam-ple. This can also be seen in the load carrying capacity: Railway slab tracks from Stelcon can be used with almost all loads that occur in road and rail traffic. The railway slab tracks are rated for load model UIC 71 of Deutsche Bahn AG.
