Consumer expectations, regardless of the geographic zone, follow the same trends in favor of “responsible” products. BIC’s res-ponse is comprised of two key points: deve-loping a supply of responsible products that everyone can afford, and offering information on their environmental and social qualities in order to help consumers choose products that meet their expectations.

BIC was the first manufacturer of writing instruments to earn the NF Environnement certification, granted by AFNOR, France’s official ecological label. BIC now offers a full range of NF Environnement ballpoint pens, graphite pencils, mechanical pen-cils and coloring products.. They include the BIC® Cristal™ pen sold in boxes of 50 and the BIC® 4 Couleurs™ bal-lpoint pen, both historical products for the Group., but also the BIC® Atlantis ball pen, the BIC® Ecolutions™ Evo-

lution™ pencil, the BIC® Matic mechanical pencil. To earn this distinction, the products must optimize both performance in use and environmental performance. In the case of these BIC® products, the main criteria nee-ded to receive the ecolabel are: limited quan-tities of raw materials or the use of recycled materials, a long performance life and the strength of the pencil leads.

The use of products bearing the NF Environ-nement mark helps reduce environmental impact and develop eco-responsible consu-mer behaviour. It is considered by the Euro-pean Authorities as a tool for consumers and buyers to eco-purchase.

BIC also proposes a complete range of products made of recycled material: BIC® Ecolutions™ : ball pens, gel pens, graphite pencils, mechanical pencils and correction products.

WE WORK CLOSELy WITh OUR SUPPLIERS…

… through a sustainability programme and assessment. Bic, Exacompta and Tesa give us some concrete examples of what we expect from our suppliers.

BIC - Promoting responsible consumption at the consumer level

When it comes to demonstrating a credible and concrete commitment to environmental protection, Exacompta is an industry leader. Part of the wider Exacompta-Clairefontaine group, Exacompta has followed a sustainable development policy for more than 50 years – a policy that has directly influenced the de-sign and evolution of its product ranges.

Now, at a time when increasing numbers of companies and organisations – particularly those within the Public Sector, and large cor-porate organisations – must abide by internal guidelines and policies around reducing their carbon footprint, Exacompta continues to offer a comprehensive selection of eco-frien-dly office products that not only meet those environmental obligations, but also deliver premium quality and functional design com-bined with excellent value for money.

There is a popular misconception that a re-cycled product means customers having to settle for a lower quality product, or an expen-sive one, but neither is the case. Exacompta

tesa - Sustainability is more than just a marketing idea for tesa®.

prides itself on offering an exceptionally high level of quality and functionality and its pro-duct guarantees reflect that, for example the Forever Desk Top Accessories range offers a full 5 year guarantee.

Similarly, Exacompta’s various ranges are all expertly designed to be both aesthetically pleasing yet professionally stylish, and what is more, each product is priced to offer a realistic equivalent to the cost of a standard non-recycled product, ensuring that there are no drawbacks, only advantages, in choosing to buy ‘green’.

Furthermore, all of Exacompta’s products have been designed and manufactured in keeping with the philosophy of sustainable development and have been independently certified accordingly. Indeed this is an impor-tant point: Exacompta’s products are not self-certified, but rather assessed and certified by recognised, credible external organisations – such as the Programme for the Endorse-ment of Forest Certification (PEFC), the Fo-rest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Blue Angel – that can provide consumers with real assurance that these products are what they claim to be.

Due to new innovations tesa sets regularly new bench marks in the market. Sustaina-bility is more than just a marketing idea for tesa®.

tesa® has developed a program to supervise production, supply chain and products to pursue the companies environmental targets.

tesa® is member of several institutions in order to support sustainability:

Hence, even tesa suppliers are required to comply certain principles. Key elements of this approach are re-useable material & pro-ducts, refillable products, recycled materials non toxic raw materials & moreover resource friendly production. Deriving by this elements tesa® has obliged themselves to further sus-tainable goals in 2012 which are:

-15% solvent use, -10% energy consump-tion, -5% waste, - 10% CO2. This is a longs-tanding commitment to put sustainability into practice.

tesa® is the only adhesive brand which is in the position to offer green sustainable pro-ducts in each different adhesive product ca-tegory. Nearly all these high quality products are Made in Germany.

The Support of SustainableDevelopment Strategy of Lyreco

tesa supports the efforts of Lyreco to meet the needs of this target group. Among others tesa prepares attractive bundles which ensure an additional benefit to Lyreco customers. There are several interesting value packs of tesa ecoLogo® products which are offered by Lyreco – presented in the catalogues as well as in the OLO shop.

There is no doubt that tesa still has more to add to its ranges in the future, and will conti-nue to be one of the forerunners of sustaina-bility. The company is continuously working on the enlargement of the ecologo® range, so watch this space for even more additions soon.
