Site analysis

Idea:

Annalise how the climate affect people’s movement in concrete lawn in different time of

the day.

Spatial composition:

Strategy: Frame

Idea: Was inspired from the camp fire structure, of three stick hold together

support each other. So I repeat the pattern of the camp fire, and lay it on each

other to create the frame.

Landform:

Strategy: Landform

Idea: Was inspired by the shape of sails of ships & boat. As it is often

floating in the air creating a curve surface. So I decide to use that shape

and the behavior of it to design the landform. I decide to put the sails side

to the ground to create a space to sit on top of the sail and also place to

hide underneath it. I also decide to design a slope area for people to sit

and it is linked to the “sais” as well.

Assemblage:

Strategy: Grafting

Idea: To me, grafting means add something to an existing building or

structure in order to make it more interesting and more usable. So I

decide to add an external stair to a building to lead people to the top

of the building also provide some shelter for rain and other

conditions.

Superimposition:

Strategy: superimposition

Idea: after chooses an area when overlay the collage with the

assemblage plan as well as the plan of concrete lawn. I decide to

color the section that I think is interesting. After that, I decide to use

that as the plan, and start to play with the difference of height of

each building to create the section.

Narrative story of collage:

1960s America

It’s about time, Bowie looked at me and said. He opened the door for us

to enter after he said so. Me and Teresa looked at each other, we can see

the terror in each other’s eyes. But we cannot give up at this stage,

someone has to stand up and face what we are about to gone through

today. When we entered the restaurant following Bowie, the noise in the

restaurant slowly disappeared. We know something is about to come up

on us. It was at the moment when we sat down on the chair next to the

bar, a voice shouted out loud: we don’t welcome black people in this

restaurant! Get out!” Suddenly, all the noise comeback to life, but it’s all

about asking us to leave. Then, someone start to shoot a water gun to us,

forced us to ran out of the door.

Design project (final project)

Strategy: keep on going with the superimposition task

Spatial temporal Narrative: My material is concrete and the theme is

debating. In order to understand the idea of debating, I decide to us

the early racism and the early Civil movement in America to

investigate on the conflict and communication between two large

group (two classes) of people. As one group of people holds the

power and the other group does not. The differences in power and

the different ways that the two group is treated is very interesting. So I

decide to use the difference in height and how people can receive the

light to express the difference of the two group also how it feels to be

in the two different group. As from the section, we can see that the

higher you go the more light you can receive and the more space you

can get. It represents the upper class, and the lower you go the less

space and light you can receive it represents the lower class.

Idea: Since I need to use concrete to represent the idea of debating, I

decide to use the grey color concrete in order to express the sad and

helpless emotion. But grey is not as strong as black so it is the best

option.
