    SEA IS LOCATED 2.5 KM FROM THE TOWN

    CENTRE THUS PROVIDING COOL SEA

    BREEZES

    SITA AND PADUKERE RIVER PROVIDE COOL

    WINDS AS WELL, AFFECTING THE

    MICROCLIMATE,

    SUN PATHEAST TO WEST.

    N Three types of winds-sea influenced breeze,

    south west monsoons & the winds redirected

    from the western ghats.

    However the vegetation cover in the region

    influence the movement of the breezes

    The vegetation increases in density thus even if

    there were high speed winds, it would be a

    little damped by the time it reaches the city

    centre

    SALIGRAMA IS LOCATED NEXT TO THE PADUKERE

    BEACH(2.5KM) AND IS SURROUNDED ON ITS EASTAND WEST SIDE BY THE SITA RIVER AND THE

    PADUKERE RIVER RESPECTIVELY.

    LOCATION NEXT TO THE BEACH MAKES THE

    UNDERGROUND WATER BRACKISH AT PLACES AND

    THUS LIMITATION TO THE VARIETY OF CROPS.

    THE RIVERS BANKS COULD BE USED AS TOURIST

    SPOTS, TO GIVE ESSENCE OF THE VILLAGE LIFE FOR

    THE OUTSIDERS.

    NH66 RUNS THROUGH SALIGRAMA RENDERING IT A

    TOWN.

    HIGH VEHICULAR MOVEMENT THROUGH THE

    TOWN DUE TO THE HIGHWAY MAKING IT A GOODNETWORK FOR TOURISM DEVELOPMENT.

    THE SOIL IN SALIGRAMA ARE IN THREE TYPES NAMELY:

    COASTAL ALLUVIUM SOILS (NEXT TO THE BEACH)

    LATERITE SOILS

    RED LOAMY SOILS

    THE PARENT MATERIAL AND CLIMATIC CONDITION IS

    FAVOURABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ACIDSOILS.

    PADDY, COCONUT, AREC NUT AND CASHEW ARE THE MAJOR

    CROPS IN THE REGION.

    ABOUT HALF OF THE AGRICULTURAL LAND GETS

    SUBMERGED IN THE RAINY SEASON AND IS USED FOR THE

    PADDY CROP.

    REMAINING LAND IS BEING COVERED BY COCONUT AND

    ARECA NUT.

    COCONUT PLANTATION IS THE MAIN KIND FOLLOWED BY

    BANANA AND MANGROVES.

    HIGH DEVELOPMENT DENSITY IS SPREAD OUT AND AS WE

    MOVE AWAY FROM THE ROAD AND THE MARKET AREA, THE

    DENSITY KEEPS DECREASING.

    IF ANY FUTURE DEVELOPMENT ARE TO BE MADE, WE CAN

    UTILISE THE UNUTILISED AREAS DEPENDING ON THE SOILTYPE.

    WE SEE THE CURRENT GATHERING HOTSPOTS AT THE HIGH

    DENSITY DEVELOPMENT ZONES.

    SO IF WE WERE TO PROVIDE A QUITE SPOT FOR TOURISM, IT

    WOULD BE ADVISABLE TO BUILD IN THE LOW DENSITY

    ZONES.

    MOST OF THE GATHERING SPACES CONCENTRATED AT

    MANTAP

    THE TEMPLES GET A LOT OF TOURISTS EVERY YEAR(1500-

    2000)

    YAKSHAGANA KENDRA WHEN NOT IN USE, IS A GATHERING

    SPACE FOR THE OLD AGE, HENCE THEY DO NOT HAVE AGATHERING SPACE FOR THE ELDERLY, WHICH COULD BE

    PROPOSED

    ACCORDING TO CRZ III, AREA OF 200M SHOULD REMAIN UNDER

    THE NO DEVELOPMENT ZONE (NDZ) WHERE ONLY

    GOVERNMENT INITIATED BUILDINGS CAN BE BUILT,

    AREAS BETWEEN 200-500M, CONSTRUCTION OF HOTEL OR

    BEACH RESORTS FOR TOURISTS CAN BE MADE ACCORDING TO

    THE RULES.

    AREAS MARKED WITH DARKER GREEN ARE POTENTIAL

    ZONES FOR TOURISM DEVELOPMENT LIKE A NATURE

    RESORT BECAUSE:

    IT HAS BIRDS LIKE PEACOCKS, KINGFISHERS,

    HUMMINGBIRDS. NO WILD ANIMALS.

    GREENERY PROVIDING THE CITY DWELLERS WITH A

    SAMPLE OF THE VILLAGE LIFE.

    CRZ buildable zone passes

    through the laterite soil area

    which makes it ideal for

    building a density of

    development.

    Most of the vegetation growth can be found on the laterite

    buildable soil along the main road.

    High density development can be seen along the

    laterite soil area.

    River and laterite soil present at the buildable zone of CRZ

    makes it ideal for building a tourist retreat because area has

    green paddy fields dotted with beautiful birds like peacocks

    etc.

    Buildable zone next to the

    beach is ideal for resorts,

    hotel and so on.

    More open spaces preferred

    Open spaces to be oriented with respect to wind patterns

    ORIENTATION & PLAN FORM

    Plan form should maximize air movement, reducing P/A ratio.

    Buildings shall be oriented according to the wind direction

    BUILDING ENVELOPE

    Roof form perpendicular to the direction of wind in warm and

    humid climate

    FENESTRATION PATTERN & CONFIGURATION

    Fenestration areasshould be largeto facilitate

    ventilation

    Large overhangs desirable to cut off diffuse radiation

    Lower sill levels preferable

    Fenestration orientation should be within 45of the

    perpendicularto the direction of airflow. The inlet

    and outletshould not be in a straight line to maximize

    airflow
