Overview

IBM XIV Storage System software version 11.3.0 features IBM Hyper-ScaleMobility, which is designed to enable administrators to move volumes between XIVsystems without application disruption. IBM XIV Storage System software version11.3.0 also supports 4 TB disk drives, which can help reduce energy costs by asmuch as 25% per usable TB while contributing to space and energy efficiencies.Customers using the 4 TB based XIV system can benefit from up to 25% less powerconsumption per usable TB than the 3 TB based XIV system. They can also benefitfrom a reduction of up to 11% in price per usable TB over the 3 TB based system,and up to 26% in price per usable TB over the 2 TB based system. The 4 TB basedXIV systems provide up to 33% increased capacity in the same footprint comparedto systems equipped with 3 TB drives, while maintaining similar performance.Modules with 4 TB drives include double the RAM size over 3 TB systems, totaling 48GB RAM per module.

IBM XIV Storage System software is the disk system operating software for IBMXIV Storage System Gen3 2810-214 and 2812-214. This software provides thefunctional capabilities of the XIV system.

The combination of XIV hardware and software is designed to provide a high-performance, grid-based architecture that is exceptionally easy to use. This offers a

It can provide a platform to address the need for reducing complexity while keepingpace with midsize to high-end disk capacity demands. An integral product withinthe IBM Smarter Storage offering, IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 is a good fit forclients who want to grow capacity, improve overall performance, and reduce backupintervals, as well as reduce costs and task load on storage administrators, without

the need to manage multiple tiers of storage.

The XIV system is especially well-suited for consolidated utility storage for fast-growing, dynamically mixed, and emerging workloads.

Statement of direction

IBM intends to enhance IBM XIV , in addition to IBM SAN Volume Controller andIBM Storwize V7000, with SmartCloud Storage Access and support for self-serviceprovisioning of cloud block storage. SmartCloud Storage Access would also providestorage data consumption information for chargeback and other purposes, andwould enable Independent Software Vendor (ISV) integration through a storagecloud API (REST).

The terms and conditions that govern any transactionwith IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBMInternational Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport AdvantageAgreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Informationdocument and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs arerequired for all authorized use.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to asSoftware Maintenance).

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) applies forSubscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) and does not

require customer signatures.

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA)and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, whichprovide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program.IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license acquisition ofeach program acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extendedby the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-timelicense charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for Softwaresupport that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normalbusiness hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the programas long as support is in effect.

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment,it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodifiedportion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operationof the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible forthe results obtained from the use of the program.

The following paragraphs titled Disabling device, Multiple component versions,andSource codeapply to the use of the IBM XIV Storage System Software components.The term Programin these paragraphs shall mean the IBM XIV Storage SystemSoftware components.

Disabling device:The Program may include a disabling device that will preventcertain features from being used. You will not tamper with such disabling device orotherwise change the Program.

Multiple component versions:The media for the Program may include multipleversions of the same Program component, such as versions designed for differentoperating systems and versions translated into different languages. Each Proof ofEntitlement for the Program authorizes You to use a single version of a Programcomponent. You are not authorized to use multiple versions of the same Programcomponent under the same Proof of Entitlement, even if multiple versions of acomponent are included on the media for the Program.

Source code:Some of the components of the Program may be provided in sourcecode form. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Agreement, support isonly provided for the unmodified, binary code versions of these components included

in the Program packaging, and not for the source code for these components or forany modifications of such components you may create.

Transferability:The Program is non-transferable between IBM XIV StorageSystems and is only to be used on the IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 for which itwas purchased. If the system is transferred to a new owner, the program licensetransfers with the system. However, Software Maintenance does not transfer, and anew maintenance agreement must be purchased by the new owner.

Software Subscription and Support applies

Yes. All distributed software licenses include Software Maintenance (SoftwareSubscription and Technical Support) for a period of 12 months from the dateof acquisition, providing a streamlined way to acquire IBM software and assuretechnical support coverage for all licenses. Extending coverage for a total of threeyears from date of acquisition may be elected.

While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for yourroutine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-relatedquestions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access,only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normalbusiness hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces themultiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support.This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance inresolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions makeit even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track systeminventory and find pertinent fixes.

Benefits

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to enhance theWarranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reportingand uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wastedtime monitoring the "symptoms," diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBMSupport to open a problem record. Its 24 x 7 monitoring and reporting mean nomore dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel whenerrors are encountered in the middle of the night.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring,reporting, and storing the data at IBM . The Electronic Service Agent tool securelytransmits either via the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem, and can be configuredto communicate securely through gateways to provide customers a single point of

exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agentdoes not enable IBM to call into a customer's system. System inventory informationis stored in a secure database, which is protected behind IBM firewalls. It is viewableonly by the customer and IBM . The customer's business applications or businessdata is never transmitted to IBM .

More accurate reporting: Since system information and error logs areautomatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the servicerequest, customers are not required to find and send system information, decreasingthe risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM , problem error datais run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are

appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, customers canview system and support information in the "My Systems" and "Premium Search"sections of the Electronic Support Web site at


My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software usinginformation collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent . Reportsare available for any system associated with the customer's IBM ID. PremiumSearch combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agentinformation, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledge base.Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has beencollected from your system, customers are able to see search results that applyspecifically to their systems.
