Judges Profiles

JAN ROGERS – CFA USAI began in the cat fancy in 1987, when I went to my very first cat show in the USA. I fell in love with the beautiful Birman cat, and it has been the heart of my cattery since. I have been fortunate to have bred some outstanding Birmans, and enjoy to this day, having had the first both male and female Grand Champion Lilac Point Birmans in all of CFA, worldwide. I continue to breed Birmans, and have an occasional litter of American Wirehair. In 1999 I started my journey in the judging program for CFA. I am proud to be an all breeds judge in CFA. I have enjoyed traveling to shows, and most importantly, being able to share my love of the cats with others. I am eagzer and interested in other cat fancy associations, and each provides unique insight into our common bond, the cat. I have worked diligently to educate the public in our hobby.Never have I left a show hall without learning something new about our cats, and the

different breeds, and for this I am grateful. I have been blessed with many cat lover friends around the world who have shared their vision and their cats with me. It has brought me profound understanding and respect of all the hard work that so many people put into our hobby. I am a graduate of Purdue University (BS in Agriculture) and Indiana University (MBA in Finance) and have run my own business since 1990.Currently I serve as the American Wirehair breed council secretary for CFA, and also hold many official positions in several CFA clubs. I continue to be active in the cat fancy. I also work with breed rescue, pedigreed cat rescue.I enjoy working with education and pet therapy in nursing homes and schools while continuing the promotion of the pedigreed cat, and all cats, wherever I travel.I am honored to be included in the shows in your country, and wish you continued success in the cat fancy. If there is anything I can ever do to help in the future, please don’t hesitate to call.

ANNE HARVEY – FCCQ AustraliaAnne qualified as a Group 1 judge with FCCQ in 2009. She began her judges training in Group 2 and 3 in late 2009, and was licensed as an open Group 2 judge with FCCQ in 2011. She completed her Shorthair training and became an approved All Breeds judges in 2012.Cats have always been part of Anne’s family; however it wasn’t until 1999 that she discovered the cat fancy. Beginning in the year 2000 Anne began breeding and showing Maine Coons. She was one of the first to introduce the breed to Queensland, and among the first handful of Maine Coon breeders in Australia at that time. Anne concentrates on health, temperament and quality in her small breeding programme which has produced some successful show winners and Cat of the Year winners during that time, but more

importantly has produced healthy well balanced kittens who bring joy to their families.Anne is committed to supporting and promoting the cat fancy, and has held a number of executive positions in cat clubs. She is currently the Secretary of the Siamese and Shorthair Cat Club of Queensland Inc, and Secretary of the FCCQ Judges Guild. She assists with, and manages cat shows, and is an active member of the Feline Control Council of Queensland Inc.Outside the world of cats, Anne works as a Senior Engineering Technician with a large international engineering consultant. She also enjoys reading and travel. Anne lives in Hervey Bay, a few hours drive north of Brisbane, but uses Brisbane as her base for judging and showing.

KAAI DU PLESSIS – CFA/WCF NetherlandsWhich breeds do you breed, own or show?I started breeding Persians in 1987. I have bred Persian and British Shorthair for many years. Currently sharing the house with my partners six retired Persians. How long have you been a judge?I started my first course in 1992 and received my All Breeds Judge status in April 2001. Trained under SACC South Africa. I was a Panel Member of The Kwa-Zulu Natal Panel of Judges (Natal) until December 2012 before immigrating to the Netherlands. What is important for you, when you work as a judge? The most important is not to be negative. I will always look for the positive in all breeds. Condition and presentation is for me important.

Which hobbies – besides the cats – do you have?As I was from South Africa both mine and my partners passion is wildlife and the stunning photos we make at game parks in Africa. Is there something else important, what you want to tell our visitors and exhibitors?I am a great believer that judges can learn from breeders, if you want to grow and understand what breeders want

to achieve without being negative.

PAMELA BARRETT – TICA USAPamela Barrett is a Distinguished Allbreed Judge of Merit with TICA. With over 25 years of judging experience, Pamela has officiated at shows around the world so has knowledge and experience of regional breed differences, various show formats and rules. In 2016 Pamela was awarded TICA Judge of the Year. Pamela is known as a talking judge so the audience is entertained and educated while she gracefully presents and handles the cats while accessing their qualities.Pamela has been a top International breeder of British Shorthairs, under the cattery name of Excalibur for 40 years. Pamela is also the chairperson of the British Shorthair Breed Group for TICA and has co-produced and presented the British Breed Seminar to breeders all over the world.

After being accepted into the TICA judging program, she moved to Oregon to complete her judging training and start a new career an Insurance Risk Manager, having been a Fraud Investigator for the State of Alaska during the wild-west years of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Currently Pamela lives in the mountains of the coast range with husband Henry and several spoiled cats.

BAMBI EDWARDS – ANCATS AustraliaI have judged across Australia and the world. Apart from Australia the countries in which I have had the pleasure of judging include the UK, France, Belgium, Malaysia, USA, Japan, Germany, Dubai and NZ. Along with Brian I was co-founder of the Waratah State Cat Alliance in 1997, and proudly now ANCATS. I am also a very active exhibitor with my Bajimbi prefix. I have been breeding since 1968 and have bred Devon & Cornish Rex, Foreign White and Tonkinese. I am currently breeding Burmese, Siamese/Oriental and Ragdolls At our 2016 Sydney

Royal Easter Show, my cats were supreme exhibit in rings 1 and 3. I look forward to my assignment with your club.

CHRIS LOWE - NZCFI fell in love with Blue Persians at a young age and it was not long before I wanted to get involved in the breeding of these beautiful cats, and I was lucky enough to be mentored by Joyce Peace (Lynndell Cattery). Now breeding Exotics & Persians predominantly Bi-colours with will established lines which have bought some wonderful show moments for me and my daughter, including Best in Show at a number of National Shows.NZCF Role: Secretary NZCFWorld Cat Congress Delegate2010 I was honoured to receive Life Membership of the NZCFAll Breeds Tutor Judge (taking a break for 2016)

Club Affiliation: Currently President of Patches & Pointed Inc (an all breeds club specialising in broken coloured cats) pleased to say that this is a very successful and innovative club (first to hold a dinner show – a concept that other clubs are now working with).Judges Training: In 1979 I entered the NZCF Judges Training Programme and qualified as a Longhair Judge in 1981 extending my license to all breeds in 1989. I went on to breed Siamese & Orientals – at that time you had to actually breed in the division that you were seeking a judge’s license in. A short time after qualifying this requirement was removed. I however have never regretted the involvement in another breed and as you can imagine the difference between a Persian & Siamese was rather diverse to say the least with Siamese & oriental babies opening their eyes at 4 days and clambering out of their bed by the time they were 7 days old compared to the rather sluggish Persian who would rather remain as long as possible in the security of the box and mum of course.International All Breeds Judging: I thoroughly enjoy the judging scene, the forward thinking of exhibitors working with improvement of lines and of course the interaction with exhibitors and cat lovers from all walks of life.I have judged in most Australian States, The Netherlands, South Africa, United Kingdom, USA & Thailand and look forward to sharing this knowledge with exhibitors in New Zealand.

JANICE DAVEY - NZCFI'm a cat lover from way back. In 1987, with my husband John, we started breeding Birmans under the prefix LEEGRGO. Then we went on to breed Tabby Birmans with the prefix BIRPUR.I have been a member of the Birman Cat Club since 1987; I also belong to the Sacred Temple Cat Club of New Zealand and am a Life member, I have held position of Club President, Secretary and show Secretary.I have held roles on the NZCF Executive Council, over the past nine years.

My Judges Training started in 1999, I became a Senior Longhair Judge in 2003 , I became an All Breeds Judge in 2013, I am also a Longhair Tutor Judge.I really enjoy the judging scene, meeting the exhibitors of these beautiful cats, every time I am out on the floor it is very rewarding. I have judged in most of Australian States.

DARRELL NEWKIRK – CFA USAIn 1984 my wife Beth and I decided to explore the world of purebred cats. We had no idea of cost or standards, but we looked in the paper and bought a "show quality” seal tortie point Himalayan. However, fate would intervene, for our perfect “Nisha” was not quite perfect. She had the dreaded tail fault and a nose like a fox terrier! Happily, we figured this out before ever entering her in a show and next set our sights on obtaining a silver Persian. As we visited a local cat show in late 1984, we saw our very first Abyssinian and the rest has become “our history”.Our first purchased Abyssinian was Van Dyke’s Abi Alexis of Purssynian, a ruddy female.

Our second acquisition was a one year old blue female, Cher-Non’s Ruffian. Ruffian was one of the early Blue Abyssinians to grand. Our first stud was a ruddy named GC Dearabi Tai-Grr-Man. Cornie Tichenor of Dearabi Cattery was a great mentor to us in those early years. She had concentrated her efforts with dilutes, especially fawns, and she was very generous and shared much of her dilute Abyssinian breeding knowledge. When I decided to become a judge, we knew we had to bring several more breeds into our home. We worked with Cornish Rex approximately four years. Other breeds who have shared our home briefly include Scottish Folds, Maine Coons, Birmans, Somalis and of course Persians. Beth and I are the owners of GC Purssynian Jambe Finete, DM. “Jammer” as he is known by his many friends is the CFA registered cat that has produced the greatest number of Grands of any breed in CFA history. Jammer has produced 62 Grand Champions and Grand Premiers. Unfortunately Jammer passed away in July 2011 from liver failure.I entered the ACFA judging program in 1990, advancing to Allbreed Training Judge and remained there until April 1995. I was accepted into the CFA judging program at the June 1995 CFA annual meeting. I was licensed as a Shorthair apprentice judge in February 1996. I entered the Longhair training program in October 1996. I was advanced to approved Allbreed judge in June 1999.Professionally, I am a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. I completed my undergraduate education in 1986 at Webster University with a major in Nursing and a minor in Business Management.Becoming a CFA judge has allowed me to view much of the world I would otherwise not have known. I have had the pleasure to be invited and have judged in Australia, Japan, Russia, the Ukraine and Europe on several occasions over the past 16 years. It is a wonderful experience to travel to other parts of the world to share with other breeders and exhibitors our common goal - the advancement, improvement and preservation of our beautiful purebred cats.On April 25, 2011 I said goodbye to my best friend and wife of almost 32 years. Beth became sick in February and in March was diagnosed with an aggressive type of brain tumor. She passed on her 58th birthday.Currently I sit on the CFA Board as a Director at Large.

GEOFF DUMIGAN – QFA AustraliaGeoff entered the cat fancy in the early 1970’s with his first blue point Siamese. His prefix Apocalypse was granted in early 1970’s and he bred Siamese, Burmese and Abyssinians which he exhibited with success on the show bench. Geoff’s other breed interests include Cornish and Devon Rex.Geoff gained his All Shorthair (Groups 2 & 3) judges license with QFA Inc in 1978 followed by his Longhair (Group 1) license in 1991 also with QFA Inc., and has judged in all States and Territories in Australia as well as New Zealand, Finland, Austria, the UK, the Czech Rebublic and Malaysia. In 2011 Geoff judged in South Africa and the Philippines.Geoff previously held many positions in the cat fancy including President, Vice President and Treasurer of QFA Inc., and Vice President of ACF Inc.

Geoff works for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs as the Quality Assurance Manager for Income Support in Queensland. His hobbies include collecting antiques, cooking and travel.
