Thank you for taking the time to read this entry guide. The Awards, now in their 22nd year, are all about recognising

excellence in the freight forwarding industry and their supplier community.

They seek to identify the industry’s leading organisations and set a benchmark for excellence by rewarding innovative ideas and class leading projects that have pushed the boundaries of what is possible in the global supply chain.

For 2018 we have introduced two new awards to cater for the ever-evolving market we serve. The “Digital Transformation Award” has been introduced to identify those organisations that are revolutionising their customer’s experiences through the digitisation of their business processes. The other new award is the “Freight Forwarder of the Year” award. You can find the criteria for all 12 categories on subsequent pages.

We look forward to receiving your entries and if you have any questions at all about the entry criteria or process then please contact me on +44 (0)20 3377 3964 or [email protected].

Top Tips For Entering3 Read through all our award categories, and make sure you enter your projects in

the most suitable categories

3 It would be a shame to have done all of the work only to be told by your director at the twelfth hour that you can’t enter. Get senior management approval, and even involvement, to help your case

3 Complete all questions on the online submission form, and keep the category you have entered in mind as you write

3 Keep to our word count limits (700 words plus 50 word synopsis)

3 Thoroughly check your entry form before submission, and ask a colleague to take a look also!

3 Complete your submission well in advance of the deadline, so you have plenty of time to ask questions and prepare your answers

3 Don’t forget to contact us at [email protected] if you have a query

3 And remember, you can enter as many categories in the competition as you like

Make Your Awards Submissions Stand OutRemember, that by the time the judges get to reading your entry, they may have already sifted through many others, so make yours stand out…

1. Keep it simpleAs many judges say: “less is sometimes more”. Write your application like a business proposal. Explain clearly to judges what you have achieved, the successful strategy behind it and why you think you should win the award based on the category criteria. Avoid jargon and flowery language, and check for grammatical mistakes and misspelling.

2. First impressions countFirst impressions do count, so make an instant impact.

3. Stick to the truthDon’t exaggerate, lie or include spurious claims, as judges will see through them.

4. Involve the whole teamMake the entry a joint effort, this will often produce a better, more comprehensive summary, as well as making the story more interesting.

5. Be ruthless when redraftingOnce you’ve written your rough draft submission, read it over several times and cut out superfluous information. This will make it much clearer. It’s also a good idea to get someone who hasn’t been directly involved to cast their eyes over it, to double-check clarity.

Page 5: Entry Guide 2018 - Freight Forwarding and Logistics News

Do you recognise this situation? Writing award-winning entries takes a great deal of skill, time and resource. Will you struggle to find the time to gather all the evidence you need to create your entries? Do you have the experience to know what the judges are looking for? Or would you prefer to become an award winner without all the hard work and effort that comes with creating award-winning entries?

If this is the case we can help. Mike King is an award-winning journalist and consultant with over 20 years’ experience in the freight industry. Mike is available throughout the entry period to help a limited number of companies maximise their chances of success with their applications. If you would like more details, please contact him at: [email protected]
