1. Statement The Application Architecture describes the specific directions, constraints and requirements in the application domain and describes how applications can deliver business and information needs. The Application Architecture will guide and constrain decisions to ensure that its application portfolio meets the needs of the enterprise and its stakeholders. This Standard identifies the minimum requirements for applying the Department of Health Enterprise Application Architecture to support the department’s vision, strategic plans, and performance objectives. 2. Scope Compliance with this standard is mandatory. This Standard applies to all employees, contractors and consultants within the Department of Health divisions, agencies and commercialised business units. 3. Content
3.1 Enterprise Architecture Application Domain 3.1.1 The Department of Health Enterprise Application Architecture shall describe the specific directions, constraints and requirements in the application domain. 3.2 Enterprise Architecture Application Portfolio Classification 3.2.1 The Department of Health Enterprise Application Architecture shall provide a basis to classify applications in a structured manner. 3.2.2 The Department of Health Application Products and Services Portfolio Classification scheme shall provide the mandated and commonly used applications to be used to deliver services to customers. Note The Department of Health Application Portfolio Classification extends the Queensland Government Application Classification Portfolio Framework to include sub domains relevant to the core business of healthcare. This framework provides a generic taxonomy for classifying and cataloguing Queensland Government Application Assets using a three level classification approach. It also provides for extending the taxonomy with additional levels of classifications and variants within the third and lower level classifications. Note The Department of Health Application Portfolio Classification diagrams provided in Appendices 1 and 2 show the Application Portfolio Classifications through level four together with the QH-A-8.2 domain expanded for health specific requirements and the Enterprise Services domains. Where the QGEA Application Portfolio Classification Framework has provided classifications applicable for use by the Department, these have been retained. QGEA classifications which are not used by the Department are shaded grey in the diagram. Where the Department requires additional classifications to accurately describe its agency specific application assets, these have been added and are denoted by a heavy outline in the diagram. The associated descriptions are included in the application architecture positions tables in section 5.4 of this standard. Note The alignment of the Department of Health Application Products and Services Portfolio Classification to the Queensland Government Application Classification Alignment is included in Appendix 3.

3.3 Mandated Application Architecture Artefacts 3.3.1 Queensland Government The following information standards and policies from the Queensland Government Enterprise Architecture (QGEA) and other Queensland Government sources shall be considered part of the Department of Health Application Architecture:

3.4 Application Architecture Positions 3.4.1 Where an applicable position states a mandated product/service, it shall be used when implementing a new product/service, replacing an existing product/service, or if major enhancements to an existing product/service are required. If there are multiple products/services for an applicable position, one of the products/services shall be used. A dispensation shall be required to not proceed with a mandated product/service. Where no mandated options are specified, there is no restriction or requirement for a dispensation. Note Additional explanatory information on the domains is provided in the Queensland Government Application Classification Framework. 3.4.2 Generic Service Delivery [QH-A-1] The following Generic Service Delivery domains are applicable to the Department of Health and where indicated, the nominated positions shall apply for the respective domains: Note Applications that are available but not specifically mandated are listed in the Product/Service Name sections. Generic Service Delivery includes those aspects of service delivery that are of a more generic nature and are likely to occur across many if not all agencies. The distinguishing feature of each of these (authorities, licences, permits and awards) is that they are attached to a person or an organisation. QH-A-1.2 Accreditation
This domain includes all applications supporting the process of accrediting individuals or organisations as qualified to deliver a particular service or conduct a type of business. Applications in this domain will typically maintain details of the accreditation, manage the life of the accreditation, maintain details of any assessments or inspections that may have occurred to evaluate the accreditation, and so on.

This domain covers applications that support providing scheduling and timetabling services to customers and taking bookings for services or other resources. The domain does not include enrolments but may have functionality to deal with wait listing and the associated notifications.

This domain includes applications that support the submission of information to departments. For example, applications that allow forms to be lodged electronically, applications that allow members of the public to register their interest, applications that allow partner organisations to provide status reports, and so on. Applications that manage the collection of data and responses to surveys would be included in this domain.

This domain includes applications that are general information provision applications. For example, applications that provide updates on statistics that a department maintains, applications that provide policy information in response to a customer query and, customised or in-house developed front-ends to datasets such as geographical and spatial content.
