2030
The future city will be shaped by four changes: first, the
technological developments will restructure the economical
geographies, where the need for ‘office-proximity’ will become
unnecessary causing a decline in commercial and financial
sectors; second the average age in the city will be much higher
creating the city of the old; third, the discussions around
environment will get intensified, where environment will
emerge not only as a crises, but also as a fad; and fourth, the
city will be highly polarized with distinct exclusive enclaves of
rich and dense enclaves of the poor. These changes will
generate the context for new entrepreneurship – to reoccupy
the space emptied by the commercial and financial sectors, to
provide services for the old, to take advantage of the emerging
environmental conditions and to mediate between the
different polarized sites. This catalogue compiles such possible
future enterprises.
