PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM

(PRET)

ABOUT PRET

PRET is a professional program run by the Higher Technical Teachers’ Training

College (ENSET) Kumba of The University of Buea. This program aims at promoting

professionalization and enhancing self-employment and entrepreneurship in individ-

uals and the society.

PRET is made up of four main programs:

The HND & HPD Certificate Training programs which prepare students in dif-

ferent disciplines of the Higher National Diploma (HND) and Higher Profes-

sional Diploma (HPD) certificate examinations organised by the Ministry of

Higher Education.

The Professional Bachelors (B. Prof) Training Programs which train students

in varying fields of study towards the obtention of a Professional Bachelor’s (B.

Prof) Degree awarded by The University of Buea.

The Professional Masters (M. Prof) Training Programs which train students

under the Postgraduate School of the University of Buea, in varying fields of

study towards the obtention of a Professional Masters (M. Prof) Degree

awarded by the University of Buea.

Doctorate (Ph.D) which train students in varying fields of study towards the ob-

tention of a Doctor of Philosophy Degree awarded by the University of Buea.

Mission

To train and prepare students for the Higher National Diploma (HND) and the

Higher Professional Diploma (HPD) examinations.

To offer training to students towards the award of Professional Degrees (B. Prof,

M. Prof, Ph.D).

To promote professionalization in Cameroonian citizens so as to meet the de-

mands of industries and enhance self-employment and entrepreneurship.

To accompany the State in its policy to promote the education of its citizens in

technical/professional disciplines at relatively affordable costs.

Academic activities include teaching, evaluation and industrial placements. Teaching is

done by means of lectures, tutorials, practicals, and seminars. Students do undertake in-

dustrial internships for both the engineering and business programs, while students of

the education fields carry out pedagogic internships in primary and secondary schools.

Evaluation is done through continous assessments of attendance & participation in class

and written tests; as well as end of semester examinations.

At all levels of training, industrial and pedagogic placements are compulsory because in

addition to the intensive practical sessions, they form the bedrock of professional training

offered in these programs.
