Primera Lectura: 1 Reyes 19: 16, 19‐21 En aquellos tiempos, el Señor le dijo a Elías: "Unge a Eliseo, el hijo de Safat, originario de Abel‐Mejolá, para que sea profeta en lugar tuyo". Elías partió luego y encontró a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, que estaba arando. Delante de él trabajaban doce yun‐tas de bueyes y él trabajaba con la última. Elías pasó junto a él y le echó encima su manto. Entonces Eliseo abandonó sus bueyes, corrió detrás de Elías y le dijo: "Déjame dar a mis padres el beso de despedida y te seguiré". Elías le contestó: "Ve y vuelve, porque bien sabes lo que ha hecho el Señor contigo". Se fue Eliseo, se llevó los dos bueyes de la yunta, los sacrificó, asó la carne en la hoguera que hizo con la made‐ra del arado y la repartió a su gente para que se la comieran. Luego se levantó, siguió a Elías y se puso a su servicio. Palabra de Dios, Te alabamos, Señor

Segunda Lectura: Gálatas 5: 1, 13‐18 Hermanos: Cristo nos ha liberado para que seamos libres. Conserven, pues, la libertad y no se sometan de nuevo al yugo de la esclavitud. Su vocación, hermanos, es la libertad. Pero cuiden de no tomarla como pretexto para satisfacer su egoísmo; antes bien, háganse servidores los unos de los otros por amor. Porque toda la ley se resume en un solo pre‐cepto: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. Pues si ustedes se muerden y devoran mutuamente, acabarán por destruir‐se. Los exhorto, pues, a que vivan de acuerdo con las exigen‐cias del Espíritu; así no se dejarán arrastrar por el desorden egoísta del hombre. Este desorden está en contra del Espíri‐tu de Dios, y el Espíritu está en contra de ese desorden. Y esta oposición es tan radical, que les impide a ustedes hacer lo que querrían hacer. Evangelio: Lucas 9: 51‐62 Cuando ya se acercaba el tiempo en que tenía que salir de este mundo, Jesús tomó la firme determinación de empren‐der el viaje a Jerusalén. Envió mensajeros por delante y ellos fueron a una aldea de Samaria para conseguirle alojamiento; pero los samaritanos no quisieron recibirlo, porque supieron que iba a Jerusalén. Ante esta negativa, sus discípulos Santia‐go y Juan le dijeron: "Señor, ¿quieres que hagamos bajar fue‐go del cielo para que acabe con ellos?" Pero Jesús se volvió hacia ellos y los reprendió. Después se fueron a otra aldea. Mientras iban de camino, alguien le dijo a Jesús: "Te seguiré a dondequiera que vayas". Jesús le respondió: "Las zorras tienen madrigueras y los pájaros, nidos; pero el Hijo del hom‐bre no tiene en dónde reclinar la cabeza". A otro, Jesús le dijo: "Sígueme". Pero él le respondió: "Señor, déjame ir pri‐mero a enterrar a mi padre". Jesús le replicó: "Deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos. Tú ve y anuncia el Reino de Dios". First Reading: 1 Kings 19: 16, 19‐21 The Lord said to Elijah: “You shall anoint Elisha, son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah, as prophet to succeed you.” Elijah set out and came upon Elisha, son of Shaphat, as he was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen; he was following the twelfth. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak over him. Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Please, let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, and I will follow you.” Elijah answered, “Go back! Have I done anything to you?” Elisha left him, and taking the yoke of oxen, slaugh‐tered them; he used the plowing equipment for fuel to boil their flesh, and gave it to his people to eat. Then Elisha left and followed Elijah as his attendant. Word of the Lord, Thanks be to God

Second Reading: Galatians 5: 1, 13‐18 Brothers and sisters: For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery. For you were called for freedom, brothers and sisters. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather, serve one another through love. For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, You shall love your neighbor as your‐self. But if you go on biting and devouring one another, be‐ware that you are not consumed by one another. I say, then: live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh. For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you may not do what you want. Gospel: Luke 9: 51‐62 When the days for Jesus being taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samar‐itan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his jour‐ney was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?" Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village. As they were proceed‐ing on their journey someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no‐where to rest his head." And to another he said, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, let me go first and bury my fa‐ther." But he answered him, "Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." And another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home." TRUE FREEDOM
When we are young we dream of doing a lot of things, perhaps travel to faraway countries. At times, we are both-ered by what we perceive to be family binds, economic restrictions, and family obligations. We do not feel free to do whatever we want; yet, is this really freedom? Accord-ing to the opinion of teenagers, freedom is doing whatev-er you want. Then we hear things like: your freedom ends where the rights of others begin. This is certainly commend-able but perhaps not enough. It is better to say: true free-dom begins where the love for others and their right be-gins and end at the moment when impulse, selfishness, and everything’s fair, turns us into puppets. This seems to be the yoke Paul speaks about; these are also the yokes that Jesus refers to when he says let the dead bury the dead. It does not seem to be Jesus’ style to prevent people from burying their loved ones. Sometimes people become tied to things that do not have life nor offer a future. In other words, more than referring to the parents, we could inter-pret the words of Jesus as leaving behind all that binds us and prevents us from devoting our life to what is truly worthwhile: the service to God and others. It may be the concern over material things, pressures from friends, com-panions or even family, laziness, an addiction to things we have become accustomed to having. No matter what it may be, if we are incapable of letting go and following Jesus, we cannot say that we are truly free even if we are doing whatever we want 24 hours a day. There is a great difference between doing whatever we want and being free. Whoever does whatever he or she desires seems to be subjected to the whims of the moment, the trends of today and to what others decide are the styles and what must be done. This could not be further from true freedom. The one who follows Christ giving up all he or she is and has becomes truly free, since they are creating life. For Reflection What are the things that seem to bind me and do not allow me to pursue my dreams? Do my personal dreams seem to correspond with what God wants from me? What things seem to prevent me from following Christ and fulfilling his will to serve him and others? Do I consider myself to be truly free?
VERDADERA LIBERTAD
Cuando somos jóvenes todos tenemos sueños de hacer muchas cosas, quizás de viajar a países lejanos. A veces nos molesta lo que vemos como ataduras de familia, de restric-ciones económicas, de obligaciones familiares. No nos sen-timos libres para hacer aquello que deseamos; pero, ¿qué es, en realidad, la libertad? Según alguna interpretación adolescente, la libertad es algo así como hacer lo que nos venga en gana. Luego se dicen cosas como: la libertad acaba donde empieza el derecho del otro; esto es cierta mente laudable, pero quizá no suficiente. Más bien se p dría decir: la verdadera libertad empieza donde empieza el amor por otro y el derecho del otro, y termina en el momen-to en que el capricho, el egoísmo, el todo vale, nos convier-ten en marionetas. Ese parece ser el yugo del que habla Pablo; esos son los yugos también, de los que habla Jesús cuando dice que dejemos a los muertos enterrar a los muer-tos.
No parece el estilo de Jesús impedir a la gente que entierre a sus seres queridos; más bien parece decir que a menudo las personas se atan a cosas que ni siquiera tienen vida ni ofrecen futuro. Más que referirse a los padres, podríamos interpretar las palabras de Jesús como un dejar atrás todo lo que nos ata y nos impide entregar nuestra vida a lo que de verdad vale la pena, es decir, al servicio de Dios y de los demás. Pueden ser preocupaciones materiales, presiones de los amigos o compañeros o incluso de la familia, hábitos de pereza o de adicción a los que ya nos hemos acostum-brado. Cualquier cosa que sea, si no somos capaces de desatarnos y seguir a Jesús, no podemos decir verdadera-mente que somos libres, aunque sintamos que de la noche a la mañana estamos haciendo lo que se nos pega la ga-na. Hay una gran diferencia entre hacer lo que en cada momento da la gana y ser libre. Quien hace todo lo que se le ocurre parece más bien sujeto a los caprichos del mo-mento, a la tendencia de la hora, a casi lo que dicen los demás que es la moda y hay que hacer; no hay nada más lejano a una verdadera libertad. Quien sigue a Cristo entre-gando todo lo que es y tiene es verdaderamente libre, por-que está creando vida.
Para la Reflexión ¿Qué cosas me parece que me atan y no me dejan llevar a cabo mis sueños? ¿Se corresponden mis sueños personales a lo que quiere Dios de mí? ¿Qué cosas parece que me impiden seguir a Cristo y cumplir su voluntad sirviéndole y sirviendo a otros? ¿Me considero verdaderamente libre?

SAN PEDRO Y SAN PABLO ST. PETER AND ST. PAUL Origen de la fiesta: San Pedro y San Pablo son apóstoles,
testigos de Jesús que dieron un gran testimonio. Son las dos co-lumnas de la fe cristiana. Dieron su vida por Jesús y gracias a ellos el cristianismo se extendió por todo el mundo.
Los dos cadáveres estuvieron sepultados juntos por unas décadas, después se les devolvieron a sus sepultu-ras originales. En 1915 se encontraron estas tumbas y, pintadas en los muros de los sepulcros, expresiones pia-dosas que ponían de manifiesto la devoción por San Pedro y San Pablo desde los inicios de la vida cristiana. Se cree que en ese lugar se llevaban a cabo las reunio-nes de los cristianos primitivos. Esta fiesta doble de San Pedro y San Pablo ha sido conmemorada el 29 de Junio desde entonces. El sentido de tener una fiesta es recordar lo que estos dos grandes santos hicieron, aprender de su ejemplo y pedirles en este día especialmente su intercesión por nosotros.
¿Qué nos enseña la vida de Pedro? Nos enseña que, a pe-sar de la debilidad humana, Dios nos ama y nos llama a la santi-dad. A pesar de todos los defectos que tenía, Pedro logró cumplir con su misión. Para ser un buen cristiano hay que esforzarse por ser santos todos los días. Cada quien, de acuerdo a su estado de vida, debe trabajar y pedirle a Dios que le ayude a alcanzar su santidad. Nos enseña que el Espíritu Santo puede obrar maravi-llas en un hombre común y corriente. Lo puede hacer capaz de superar los más grandes obstáculos.
Qué nos enseña la vida de San Pablo? Nos enseña la im-portancia de la labor apostólica de los cristianos. Todos los cris-tianos debemos ser apóstoles, anunciar a Cristo comunicando su mensaje con la palabra y el ejemplo, cada uno en el lugar donde viva, y de diferentes maneras. Nos enseña el valor de la conver-sión. Nos enseña a hacer caso a Jesús dejando nuestra vida anti-gua de pecado para comenzar una vida dedicada a la santidad, a las buenas obras y al apostolado.
On June 29 the Church celebrates the feast day of Sts. Peter & Paul. As early as the year 258, there is evidence of an already lengthy tradition of celebrating the solemnities of both Saint Pe-
ter and Saint Paul on the same day. Together, the two saints are the founders of the See of Rome, through their preaching, ministry and martyrdom there. Veneration of the two great Apostles, Peter and Paul, has its roots in the very foundations of the Church. They are the solid rock on which the Church is built. They are at the origin of her faith and will forever remain her protectors and her guides. To them Rome owes her true greatness, for it was under God's providential guidance
that they were led to make the capital of the Empire, sanctified by their martyrdom, the center of the Christian world whence should radiate the preaching of the Gospel.
St. Peter suffered martyrdom under Nero, in A.D. 66 or 67. He was buried on the hill of the Vatican where recent excava-tions have revealed his tomb on the very site of the basilica of St. Peter's. St. Paul was beheaded in the via Ostia on the spot where now stands the basilica bearing his name. Down the centuries Christian people in their thousands have gone on pilgrimage to the tombs of these Apostles. In the second and third centuries the Roman Church already stood pre-eminent by reason of her apos-tolicity, the infallible truth of her teaching and her two great fig-ures, Sts. Peter and Paul.
In a sermon in the year 395, St. Augustine of Hippo said of Sts. Peter and Paul:
“Both apostles share the same feast day, for these two were one; and even though they suffered on different days,
they were as one. Peter went first, and Paul followed. And so we celebrate this day made holy for us by the apostles' blood.
Let us embrace what they believed, their life, their labors, their sufferings, their preaching, and their confession of faith.”
¿ESTÁS OCUPADA (O)?
Mientras te levantabas esta mañana, yo te observaba. Esperaba que me hablaras, aunque fuesen unas cuantas pala‐bras, preguntando mi opinión acerca de algún tema o agrade‐ciéndome por algo bueno que te hubiese sucedido el día de ayer. Pero noté que estabas muy ocupada... buscando la ropa adecuada que te ibas a poner para ir al trabajo. Seguía espe‐rando mientras corrías por la casa arreglándote, creí que en‐contrarías unos cuantos minutos para detenerte y decirme "HOLA"... pero estabas demasiado ocupada...
Para ver si por fin me percibías, encendí el cielo para ti, lo llené de colores y dulces cantos de pájaros... pero ni siquiera te diste cuenta de ello. Te miré mientras ibas rumbo al trabajo y esperé pacientemente todo el día. Con tantas actividades supongo que... estabas muy ocupada para decirme algo.
De regreso, ví tu cansancio, quise rociarte para que el agua se llevara tu estrés. Pensé que agradándote, te acorda‐rías de mí. Sin embargo, enfurecida, ofendiste mi nombre. Deseaba tanto que me hablaras... aún quedaba bastante tiem‐po.
Después encendiste el televisor. Esperé pacientemente mientras veías tu serie favorita, luego cenaste, revisaste en tu teléfono móvil los WhatsApp pendientes, la cuenta de Face‐book y Twitter y nuevamente te olvidaste de hablar conmigo.
Te noté cansada, entendí tu silencio y apagué el resplan‐dor del cielo pero no te dejé a oscuras. Lo cambié por un luce‐ro... Verdaderamente fue hermoso, pero no estuviste intere‐sada en verlo.
A la hora de dormir creo que ya estabas agotada. Dijiste buenas noches a tu familia, caminaste hacia tu cama y casi de inmediato te dormiste. Acompañé con música tus sueños, mis animales nocturnos se lucieron. No hay problema... porque quizás no te dés cuenta que siempre estoy ahí para ti.
Tengo más paciencia de la que te imaginas. Quisiera ense‐ñártela para que puedas tenerla con los demás. Te amo tanto que espero todos los días una oración y el paisaje que diseño cada amanecer es para ti.
Bueno... te estás levantando de nuevo y no me queda otra cosa que entregarte todo el amor que siento por ti y con‐tinuar esperando que, al menos, el día de hoy me dediques sólo... un poco de tiempo.

1. Los Bautizos son los sábados a las 2pm en grupo. 2. Mínimo un mes antes de la fecha que quisiera, presente el Acta de Nacimiento a la oficina parroquial junto con el donativo de $40. 3. Los Papas y Padrinos deben asistir a 2 clases los jueves de 7‐9pm en el Salón C. Las clases son en Español. 4. Los Padrinos si son pareja deben estar casados por la Iglesia . Si son solteros deben haber hecho los sacramentos de Bautismo, Primera Comunión y Confirmación. (Los 3 sa‐cramentos)

El Papel de su Conciencia
La conciencia funciona como una alarma, le advierte cuando está a punto de hacer algo que sabe que está mal. Ella por si sola no determina lo que está bien o mal. Para funcionar adecuadamente, su conciencia debe estar bien formada, es decir, usted debe informarse sobre lo que está bien y lo que está mal. Solo así su conciencia puede ser una guía confiable.
Desafortunadamente, en la actualidad hay muchos católicos quienes no han formado sus conciencias adecuadamente sobre asuntos morales claves. El resultado es que sus conciencias no “suenan la alar‐ma” en el momento correcto, incluso el día de las elecciones.
Una conciencia bien formada nunca contradecirá una ense‐ñanza moral católica. Por lo tanto, si no está seguro sobre a donde lo guía su conciencia cuando se encuentre frente a la urna electoral, confíe en las inquebrantables enseñanzas morales de la Iglesia. (El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica es una excelente fuente de las auténticas enseñanzas morales.)

The Role of Your Conscience
Conscience is like an alarm. It warns you when you are about to do something that you know is wrong. It does not itself determine what is right or wrong. For your conscience to work properly, it must be properly informed—that is, you must inform yourself about what is right and what is wrong. Only then will your conscience be a trusted guide. Unfortunately, today man Catholics have not formed their consciences adequately regarding key moral issues. The result is that their con‐sciences de not “sound off” at appropriate
times, including on Election Day. A well‐informed conscience will never contradict Catholic moral teaching. For that reason, if you are unsure where your conscience is leading you when at the ballot box, place your trust in the unwavering moral teachings of the Church. (The Catechism of the Catholic Church is an excel‐lent source of authentic moral teaching.)

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Yet again in Ordinary Time, Jesus seems to de‐mand extraordinary commitment. A would‐be disciple enthusiastically volunteers to follow Jesus “wherever” (Luke 9:57). Jesus replies that “wherever” means “nowhere to rest his head” (9:58). To other candidates, Jesus
brusquely denies reasonable requests to fulfill family obligations (9:59, 61), declaring that discipleship de‐mands total commitment—now! But Jesus also de‐mands that we not judge how others respond. When James and John volunteered to “call down fire from heaven” (9:54) to destroy an unwelcoming town, Je‐sus “turned and rebuked them” (9:55). All violence of any kind is completely unacceptable among Jesus’ disciples, a lesson this Jubilee Year of Mercy is teach‐ing the Christian community once again. Paul’s chal‐lenge to the Galatians and us reinforces Jesus’ deci‐sive command to James and John that they express their commitment to him through compassion for others. We must abandon the violence of “biting and devouring one another” (Galatians 5:15), choosing instead to “serve one another through love” (5:13) .
Decimotercer Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
En este, un domingo más del Tiempo Ordinario, parece que Jesús exige un compromiso extraordinario. Un aspirante entusiasmado a ser discípulo se ofrece de voluntario para seguir a Jesús “a donde sea” (Lucas 9:57). Jesús le contesta que “a donde sea” significa “no tener donde recostar la cabeza” (9:58). A otros aspirantes, Jesús bruscamente niega sus peticiones para seguirlo pues les antepone razonablemente sus responsa‐bilidades y obligaciones familiares (9:59, 61), expresando que ahora ser discípulo exige compromiso completo. Pero Jesús también exige que no juzguemos cómo responden otras personas. Cuando Santiago y Juan se ofrecen para “hacer caer fuego del cielo” (9:54) para destruir una ciudad que no los recibió, Jesús “los reprende” (9:55). Cualquier tipo de violencia es completamente inaceptable entre los discípulos de Jesús, una lección este Año Jubilar de la Mise‐ricordia es enseñar una vez más a la comunidad cristiana. El desafío de Pablo a los gálatas y a nosotros refuerza el man‐damiento decisivo de Jesús a Santiago y Juan que ellos ex‐presaran su compromiso hacia los demás con compasión. Debemos dejar de ser violentos y dejar “comernos y devo‐rarnos unos a otros” (Gálatas 5:15), eligiendo en su lugar “servir uno al otro por medio del amor” (5:13) .

THE TIDINGS IS BECOMING ANGELUS NEWS
Since 1895 The Tidings, the newspaper of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, has been telling the story of the Church in Los Angeles and across the globe. On July 1 The Tidings will be transformed and become a multimedia platform: Angelus News. The new presence will include a weekly magazine, a website, social media channels and a daily digital newsletter. Pope Francis has shown us how to utilize the vast communica‐tions vehicles available to us, and Angelus will follow his lead. As the largest archdiocese in the United States, we have a great story to tell and Angelus News will tell it well. We’re bringing on new writers but we’re keeping the contributors you already love to read. We’re proud of our past, but looking to the future. To better serve you, we’re launching on the Feast of St. Junípero Serra and following his motto: “Always forward, never back.”
