    Dear Parents / Caregivers Thank you for your interest in St Patrick’s College Silverstream.

    The College was founded in 1931 by the Marist Fathers to provide a Catholic education for boys. For most of its history, the majority of the students boarded at the College. In the last 20 years, the number of day students from the Hutt Valley has increased dramatically. A resurgence of interest in boarding in the last three years means that now over 100 of the 720 students are boarders at the College. The fact that these boys and the staff who care for them reside here provides a different environment to other Colleges. There are always students and staff on-site. It is more than a school. It is a place to Belong and be accepted. It is a home away from home, for both day students and boarders. St Patrick’s College Silverstream places a strong emphasis on Values and Excellence.

    The College maintains and nurtures the Catholic and Marist tradition established by the priests and brothers of the Society of Mary. The values emphasised are those of the Gospels, as modelled and preached by Jesus and lived in a particular way by his mother Mary, from whom the word Marist comes. The students are encouraged to pursue excellence in all the activities that they undertake – spiritual, academic, cultural, sporting and social. There is an understanding that excellence is individual and is achieved by being the best that one can be.

    We are committed to the boys learning to take control of their own destiny. This Self-management approach builds independence, resilience and accountability.

    Our timeline for 2021 enrolment is:

    Tuesday 30 June 2020 Enrolments for 2021 close Friday 7 August 2020 Notification of acceptance (or not) Friday 21 August 2020 You must notify us by this date if you are accepting a place for 2021.

    Please complete the attached forms and return them to Dawn Clark, Registrar on [email protected] by Tuesday 30 June 2020 for 2021 enrolments if you have any questions. You must make contact with your Parish Priest to have the Preference Certificate signed.

    We love our College and believe that it offers an inclusive and challenging 21st Century education for young men, helping them to develop as “compassionate, just and successful” citizens.

    Sectare Fidem

  • ENROLMENT SCHEME

    St Patrick’s College Silverstream 207 Fergusson Drive Upper Hutt

    Maximum Roll

    The school's roll will be managed within the maximum roll prescribed in the school's integration agreement. The board will make provision for likely population movements in the general area served by the school that occur during the school year or after the end of the pre-enrolment period. The maximum roll is 720.

    Priority in enrolment

    Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority.

    First priority will be given to preference students who are boarders.

    Second priority will be given to preference applicants for whom the school is reasonably convenient and who reside within the boundaries of Upper Valley Parishes (Our Lady of the Valleys Pariah (incorporating Our Lady of Grace, Heretaunga and St Francis Xavier, Stokes Valley) and St Joseph’s, Upper Hutt). Students within this priority group are guaranteed enrolment unless including all of them would exceed the school's maximum roll (and/or school capacity). In such a situation, students will be ranked for selection in accordance with the priority criteria listed below.

    Third priority will be given to preference applicants who currently have, or have had, a sibling at the College. Students within this priority group are not guaranteed enrolment. If there are more applicants than places available, the priority criteria listed below will apply.

    Fourth priority will be given to preference applicants who are the sons of former students of St Patrick’s College, Silverstream. Students within this priority group are not guaranteed enrolment. If there are more applicants than places available, the priority criteria listed below will apply.

    Fifth priority will be given to preference applicants for whom the school is reasonably convenient and who reside within the boundaries of Lower Hutt Parishes (St Martin de Porres, Avalon, San Antonio, Eastbourne, Ss Peter & Paul, Lower Hutt, St Bernadette, Naenae, Sacred Heart, Petone, St Michael, Taita, Our Lady of Rosary, Waiwhetu, St Patrick, Wainuiomata) and Plimmerton Parish (St Theresa Plimmerton). Students within this priority group are not guaranteed enrolment. If there are more applicants than places available, the priority criteria listed below will apply.

    Sixth priority will be given to all other preference applicants. Students within this priority group are not guaranteed enrolment. Priority among fifth priority students will be given to students according to the priority criteria listed below.

    Seventh priority will be given to non-preference students. Non-preference students will be enrolled only if enrolment places remain after all preference applicants have been enrolled and the board judges that enrolment of the non-preference students will not compromise its ability to offer places to preference students who may apply for enrolment at a later date. Priority among non-preference students will be given to students according to the priority criteria listed below.

    St Patrick’s College

    SILVERSTREAM

  • Priority Criteria (in order)

    (a) sons of board members;

    (b) sons of members of board of proprietors;

    (c) sons of board employees;

    (d) sons of those who have been members in a key school organisation

    (e) If, having applied these criteria there are still more applicants than places available at any priority level, then the remaining places will be balloted.

    Notes to the enrolment scheme

    Applicants seeking priority status may be required to provide proof of residence in the specified area.

    If the total number of applications from preference students is less than the number of places available, all preference applicants will be enrolled.

    The number of places available for non-preference students will be governed by the maximum number allowable under the school's Integration Agreement. For St Patrick’s College, Silverstream, a maximum of 5% of the roll (34 students) is permissible.

    If the total number of applications is greater than the number of places available, unsuccessful applicants will have their names recorded on a waiting list, within their relevant priority category, ranked in order of the published priority criteria. Students on the waiting list may be offered places at a later date if places become available. The waiting list will remain current until the board next notifies the public that it is inviting applications for the next enrolment intake.

    Pre-enrolment

    Each year applications for enrolment will be sought by a date which will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.

  • The following is an indication of the types of charges and donations the school seeks from families. Amounts for some items vary depending on the courses and activities the student is involved in.

    Charges and Contributions

    Boarding Fees: Boarding fees for 2020 are $3,348.00 per term ($13,392 per year). Please note for 2021 the fees are subject to change.

    There is a once-only administration fee of $150 when students first enter the Boarding school which covers the initial costs of linen, dining utensils etc. Where medical expenses or other costs are incurred on behalf of the student, these will be passed onto the parent/guardian for reimbursement to the College. Damage or Loss of School Property: Damage to or losses by students of school property including buildings and furnishings, books and equipment will be charged. Day Boy Lunches: Day Boys may join the boarding boys for lunch. This is for Parents/guardians to decide at the beginning of each term. A fee is set for each term and this must be paid in advance at the beginning of each term for each Day Boy to attend lunch. The fee is $6 per school day in the term (usually about $250 per term) but this does vary per term.

    Voluntary Purchases: These fees are payable where students have chosen to participate in optional activities or purchase optional resources/materials. This includes music lessons, Blue & White magazine, extra- curricular activities (eg. junior dances, senior ball, graduation supper, Duke of Edinburgh award), Chromebook hire, optional workbooks, optional school trips. Sport Fees: Sport at the College is a self-funding extra-curricular activity and therefore sport fees must be paid to enable a student to participate. The College operates a “no pay, no play” policy with regards to sport. Sport fees vary depending on the code and the level of participation by the student. The fees include the cost of team uniforms, hiring of facilities and the payment of third party registration fees. Additionally, participation in National competitions involves the cost of travel and accommodation that requires parental/guardian funding. The College aims to keep the cost to participants as low as possible through team fundraising and securing sponsorship and charitable grants. ID Card & Whole of School Travel: The ID card is used to access printers at school and can be used for reduced travel fares and other student discounts. The charge for this is $10. The Whole of School Travel charge covers the cost when the whole school travels to the McEvedy Shield and other traditional sporting fixtures. The charge for this is $15. Course Contributions: These are voluntary contributions that the College requests to enable us to deliver the curriculum over and above our operational funding. The amounts for each subject are itemised and cover compulsory trips and workbooks and other resources that the students keep to take home. These contributions are tax deductible. Old Boys’ Levy: This voluntary levy is passed directly to the St Patrick’s College Old Boys Association and, if paid for five years, entitles your son to lifetime membership of the Association. The levy is $30.

  • Voluntary Donations

    In addition to the charges & contributions above the following tax deductible donations may be made on a voluntary basis by caregivers:

    Activity Donation: $490.00 per year The Activity donation is a voluntary contribution required to meet some of the costs of sports teams, equipment and travel, cultural activities, prize-giving expenses, Religious Education resources and programmes, and any other purpose that the Board of Trustees may specify and is not met by the Ministry of Education.

    Heritage Donation: $520.00 per year The Silverstream Board of Proprietor’s is responsible for ensuring the preservation of our Heritage in terms of buildings, land and plant so that the current and future generations of Streamers can enjoy. This contribution helps provide financial assistance to upgrade facilities at the College.

    Proprietor’s Donation: $660.00 per year This is a voluntary contribution relating to areas of the College used by all the students and which are not integrated e.g. some playing fields, the chapel, auditorium, squash courts, common rooms etc., and any other purposes and activities which the Board of Proprietors may specify.

    Attendance Dues

    Attendance dues are compulsory and are set by the Archdiocese of Wellington. St Patricks College has no involvement with their setting and collection but does have a role to assist where there is financial hardship incurred by parents/guardians.

    Attendance Dues for 2020 are $1092 per year but the Dues for 2021 are subject to change.

    attendance dues permitted to be charged by the Ministry of Education; (b) Is likely to review and (if necessary) increase the level of attendance dues payable at least annually. 3.0 Use of Personal Information Provided
