On Wednesday 3rd July, we held our annual athletics carnival at St Luke’s Oval in Concord. Although we had the challenge of

using the oval in conjunction with another school, we had a very successful carnival thanks to all the wonderful support of

our parent volunteers and the enthusiasm of our students! Congratulations to those who will go on to represent Putney

Public School at the zone carnival next term.

Ribbons will be handed out early next term and the Ryde Zone Athletics Carnival will be held at Sydney Olympic Park on

the 20th August 2019.

End of Term 2 Newsletter

Dear Families,

Staff Changes:

There have not been any changes in staff this term. All our wonderful educators are still here and doing great things with the

children.

Parents Breakfast: (Thursday)

Our parents’ breakfast will be on Thursday 4th July from 7am till 8:15am. Please feel free to come

along for some yummy food or a cuppa. All families and siblings welcome.

Menu:

Our POOSH weekly menu is on display on the notice board. Please have a look and let me know if

there is anything that you would like to see added to the menu. Your suggestions are very welcome.

Some children have already put in their suggestions for some yummy afternoon snacks. The favourite for this term was Lasa-

gne and Pasta.

Late Fees:

Just a reminder that if children are picked up late in the afternoon they will be charged a late fee of $10 per 10 minutes (e.g. if

you pick up at 6:07 you will be charged $10) and a fee of $35 will be charged if after 6:15pm. This is a cash payment due at

the time of your child’s collection.

If your child/ren is/are going to be absent from school you MUST ensure that you contact POOSH, via email or phone. Failure

to do so will incur a non-notification fee of $15.

Craft/Cooking:

This term for cooking the children have made cupcakes, chocolate crackles, savoury scrolls and biscuits. They have also partic-

ipated in science experiments.

In the craft department which is very much sort after the children have made a number of items

which are hanging around at POOSH and on display for all to see. The most exciting item that the

children made was Patrick the robot (named by Oliver. K) The children have also created their own

board games which are still being completed.

Outside:

Like term I decided to split the groups while outside. The K-2 and 3-6 are on different sides of the playground each afternoon.

This has worked very well and will continue in term 3.

Some

Inside

Activities:

Incursions:

This term we had dance in the hall which is held on a Tuesday afternoon. We had a Go Seek show that was on for the K- 2

children. This show was very interactive and was very informative.

The children enjoyed this show and asked if they would come back in term 3. I have organised some other incursions for

term 3 that I’m sure the children are going to enjoy just as much as these ones.

Biggest Morning Tea:

On the 24th May we held a Biggest Morning Tea which was a great success. I would like to thank all the families and sur-

rounding business’s who donated items which made this a great event

as well as the families who purchased items

and raffle tickets. Congratulations to all our

raffle winners.

Along with dancing for the children in term 3, which will move to a Wednesday, there will be a sports program for all chil-

dren. This will be on a Tuesday afternoon and will commence at 3:45. There will be two groups K-2 and 3-6. This will be held

on the back flat.

I hope you all have a safe and great break.

See you in term 3.

Thankyou

Stage One Excursion to Centennial Park

First when we arrived at Centennial Park we sat down on the veranda. We all had our crunch

and sip. When we were finished we went to see the colony of fruit bats. After we looked at

them we crossed the bridge. Under the bridge there was a lake with tadpoles. When we

crossed the bridge we came to a bunch of islands with lots of birds on them. Next we met

Percy the possum. After that we did dip netting. Dip netting is where you have to get a net and

a tray filled up with water. You dip the net in a lake and collect creatures. When we did dip

netting we caught four diving beetles and one bleach. Then we did a maze. After that we went

to the veranda and had lunch. When we were finished we went into the Wild Play Playground.

We played for an hour and then we went on the bus. When we got to school it was home time.

Thomas Bowden Retirement Village Visit

This term, Putney students had the pleasure of welcoming visitors from the Thomas Bowden Re-

tirement Village. During their first visit, residents enjoyed a performance by the recorder ensem-

ble, as well as a variety of digital advertisements created by 4SK. During week 9, residents had the

opportunity to enjoy short videos made by students for the Putney Film Festival. We look forward

to seeing them again in Term 3.

Message from the recorder ensemble:

On Thursday, the Recorder Group played ‘Three Brothers,’ ‘Simple Gifts’ and ‘Bluz for Suz’ for the

Thomas Bowden Retirement Village residents. It was fun playing in the hall. They said they had a

wonderful time and it was a great experience to perform to an audience. We look forward to see-

ing them again. Last Tuesday, we had a practise in the city at the Salvation Army Hall. Next month,

we are going to the Opera house to perform at the FOIM (Festival of Instrumental Music) in front

of a large audience.
