What is Naviance? Naviance is a web-based college research and planning

tool for Jones students, parents and school counselors. As freshmen you have access to folders that highlight enrichment opportunities. The website will be used extensively your Junior and Senior years for college exploration and the college application process.

How to Update Your Student Profile

• In the tool bar at the top find and click on About Me.

• On the next page, find Official Things and click on Profile.

• On the next page, find and click on Edit.

• Please check and/or update the following information: your first, middle and last names, your birthday, your ethnicity, your home and mobile phone numbers, your address.

• Once you’ve completed this information, click on Update.

How to Add a Parent to Your Account• In the tool bar at the top find and click on About Me.

• On the next page, find Official Things and click on Profile.

• On the next page, find Parents and click on Add New Parent

• Enter your parent name, address (if the address is the same as yours click the box next to “same as address in my profile”), all phone numbers and their email address.

• Click on Add Parent.

Enrichment Program InformationWhat is an enrichment program?

• A program that is held either during the school year or the summer.• They can improve your skills and knowledge and build your college

and scholarship resumes.

Why are they important?• They allow you to try out new activities/

courses/ potential careers.• They allow you to experience college, meet new people, visit new

places or possibly earn college credit.• They also prepare you for college courses and essays.

How do I find a program?• Come to the counseling office and ask for a counselor.• Look at the information wall outside counseling department door.

University of Chicago - Collegiate Scholars Program

• What? 3 year program designed to help students get into highly selective colleges, apply for scholarships, and make the connection between college and a career.• Who? CPS freshmen only • How? Applications available mid-November• When? 3 consecutive summers• Cost? $350 per summer• Why? You’re learning at a college level

Mathematics & Science for Minority Students, (MS)²•What? Program offered to minority students to immerse themselves in the study of math, science, and English.• Free to all those accepted

Tips for Preparing a Competitive Application• Review all application requirements for the

program to ensure you are eligible and prepared. • Clearly explain in your statement of interest your

motivations for applying for the program and identify the background, experiences, and skills that you believe will make you successful in the program.

• Demonstrate a strong academic background.• Obtain strong letters of recommendation and give

two weeks notice to recommender; ensure they arrive on time.

Tips Continued• Include in your application all relevant

extracurricular, community, or volunteer experiences and highlight any leadership roles in these efforts.
