Wales Wales is a country that is part of the United Kingdom and the island of Great Britain, bordered by England to its east and the Atlantic Ocean and Irish Sea to its west. It had a population in 2011 of 3,063,456 and has a total area of 20,779 km2 (8,023 sq. mi). Wales has over 1,200 km (750 mi) of coastline and is largely mountainous, with its highest peaks in the north and central areas, including Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), its highest summit. The country lies within the north temperate zone and has a changeable, maritime climate.

Newport Newport (Welsh: Casnewydd) is a cathedral and university city and unitary authority in south east Wales. It is located on the River Usk close to its confluence with the Severn estuary, approximately 18 km east of Cardiff. The city forms part of the Cardiff-Newport metropolitan area with a population of 1,097,000.Newport has been a port since medieval times, when a castle was built by the Normans. The town grew significantly in the 19th century, when its port became the focus of coal exports from the eastern valleys of South Wales. During the 20th century, the docks declined in importance, but Newport remained an important manufacturing and engineering centre. It was granted city status in 2002. Newport hosted the Ryder Cup in 2010. It has been announced the city will play host to the 2014 NATO summit.

SWANSEASwansea is Wales' "City by the Sea" being perfectly situated on the edge of a five-mile wide bay. Renowned as the birthplace of Wales' greatest poet and playwright Dylan Thomas, and home to the Dylan Thomas centre, where his memory is kept very much alive.City CentreThe City has world-class cultural facilities and is a lively and vibrant maritime city and regional shopping centre. Swansea is home to Wales' biggest indoor market where you can sample traditional Welsh delicacies like laverbread and fresh cockles from Penclawdd. Locally caught fresh fish can also be bought along with local souvenirs including Welsh ladies' hats and intricately carved love-spoons. Youngsters enjoy the nightlife in the many pubs and bars centred on Wind Street. Some say they enjoy it too much!

Wrexham

As the largest town in the north of Wales, it is a major centre of the region's administrative, commercial, retail and educational infrastructure.Wrexham is twinned with the German district of Märkischer Kreis and the Polish town of Racibórz.
