At Centrica, the owner of British Gas, we’re proud of the Lynn and Inner Dowsing offshore wind farms, just off Skegness. In their first year in operation they generated enough power to meet the annual electricity demand of more than 130,000 homes – that’s half the households in Lincolnshire.

Offshore wind farms harness the natural power of the wind, and as any kite surfer will tell you, it’s an energy that Britain’s coastline has in abundance. Generating more of our power from renewable sources will help protect us from the impacts of climate change and make the UK less reliant on imported energy.

The next time you are in Skegness, go along to the visitor centre at Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve. The centre was redeveloped in 2006, incorporating a new Look-Out, the Point Café, gift shop and exhibition area. There you can learn about the precious environment that the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust is committed to protecting.

And you can find out a little more about Centrica’s wind farms too.

when you go on holiday, it’s good to know that you have plenty of options.

You might want outdoor attractions to enjoy when the sun’s out, lively nightlife for letting your hair down, quiet open spaces for just relaxing in and plenty of good food and drink to help you re-fuel.

You could join the crowds on a busy seafront, explore historic buildings, hold tight on a funfair thrill ride or potter around a traditional village square full of character.

We’re lucky because we have them all.

And whenever you want to come we’ve got a range of accommodation to suit all tastes.

A beach in the summer is a haven for sunbathing, games and ice cream. Autumn sees it become a bracing, wrapped up walk, arm in arm with someone close. The changing seasons give us the chance to show off different sides to our attractions.

Entertaining theatre shows, a round of golf, lively towns with bustling weekly markets, year round festivals, walking and cycling in beautiful countryside – you can share them with us all year round.

Come and see for yourself.

something for everyone

You get a true all-round package when you visit Mablethorpe.

Yes there are family fairground rides, yes there’s an award-winning beach and yes there are plenty of other traditional seaside activities.

But then there are the extras that make it a truly special place. Where else will you find a beach hut for “Gazing and Canoodling” and how many places offer a coastal art festival centred around beach huts, the internationally renowned Festival of Bathing Beauties. And when the beach is not being used for sunbathing and games, it can be found hosting high-speed sand motorcycling – a thrill a minute sport.

By contrast there’s the calm of the Seal Sanctuary where seals and other wildlife are nursed back to health in a natural environment.

Come to Mablethorpe for the buzz of activity around the town centre, the colour and clatter of the amusement arcades, or the illuminations which light up the sea front each year.

You can go bargain hunting at the market and car boot sale at Funland, or enjoy a drink and lively atmosphere in pubs and bars like Sharky’s and The Beck.

These delightful villages are popular destinations as either a base for a holiday or an enjoyable day out in their own right.

Chapel St Leonards and Sutton on Sea sit upon a beautiful stretch of beach that is always an immediate attraction for any visitor, but there’s plenty more than just the beach to these coastal gems.

Chapel St Leonards is centred around a traditional village green which is the hub of daily life with shops and cafés bursting with life. It’s a great place to watch the world go by.

It’s also home to Chapel Point, once part of the defences in the Second World War, but now restored as a pleasant visitor attraction. Grab a drink and a snack in its café after enjoying the wonderful views.

The fun pool and splash pool at nearby Robin Hood Leisure Park are always a popular choice to burn off some energy, and its Club Tropicana nightclub hosts a wealth of entertainment.

Sutton on Sea may be a little quieter, but not during one of its annual highlights - the Sutton on Sea & Trusthorpe Carnival, held at the end of July and which draws in thousands of visitors.

Families also love the Pleasure Gardens with the wide variety of activities on offer including a games area, crazy golf and paddling pool.

Make sure both are on your itinerary whatever your holiday plans.

hAVe Fun, Be sAFe – And don’T geT cArried AwAy !!!

There is a lot of fun to be had on a trip to skegness, mablethorpe & sutton on sea but safety is always an important issue to us. here are a few tips to make sure you and your family stay safe on the beach this summer.

• Always follow the advice from the lifeguards.

• Look out for information, warning signs and flags.

• Swim where there is a lifeguard on duty, between the Red and Yellow flags.

• Do not enter the water when the RED Flag is flying – this denotes danger !

• Inflatables are fun but can be dangerous as you can easily be blown out to sea. The best advice is simple ‘Don’t use them on the sea’.

• Swim with a friend – never swim on your own.

• Don’t eat or drink immediately before swimming as you may suffer cramps.

• Don’t consume alcohol before going into the sea.

• Be safe in the sun – too much exposure to the sun’s rays can be harmful. Always wear sun cream, at least SPF15 or above – even if it is cloudy.

• If you see someone in difficulty, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

enjoy market Towns and the wolds

Character, history and charm…just three words to describe the appeal of Lincolnshire’s market towns and Wolds gems.

Three words however are barely enough to do these places justice, and if you add in the majesty of the magnificent Wolds themselves, you have the recipe for a fantastic day out.

Mile after mile of unspoilt countryside within an officially designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty make this a haven for walkers and cyclists enjoying remarkable views and trails.

The Lincolnshire Wolds Walking Festival is an ideal opportunity to tread the Highways and By-Ways and explore the rich history of the region.

No matter whether you decide to visit during the walking festival in May or at any other time of year you are sure to find award-winning local produce shops, outstanding traditional markets and some of the quaintest tea shops and restaurants in the country.

Immerse yourself in the local landscape and our welcome will make you feel right at home.

Places to visit

These are the places where traditional markets and fairs are enjoyed all year round, whether by their regular patrons or interested visitors. To join the crowds at these events is to be part of the areas very heartbeat.

Regular events and markets in Louth and Alford, where you will find some of the county’s finest produce, are amongst those not to be missed.

The market towns retain their distinctive character and appeal year after year, rewarding return visitors as much as the first timers.

Take away some speciality foodstuffs, be amazed at a superbly preserved windmill, like the fine examples at Alford and Burgh le Marsh, or while away an afternoon in a fascinating museum. They are a treasure trove of interesting finds.

You’ll leave with a bagful of memories - and more - and quite a few snaps for the album.

Breeding sealsThe British population of grey seals is of great international importance and Lincolnshire is fortunate to have a thriving colony here on our coast. For much of the year the seals are at sea or hauled out on distant sandbanks but during the winter they come to breed on the beaches of Lincolnshire.

migrating bird coloniesThe Wash is recognised as being internationally important for 17 species of bird. This includes pink-footed goose, dark-bellied brent goose, shelduck, pintail, oystercatcher, ringed plover, grey plover, golden plover, lapwing, knot, sanderling, dunlin, black-tailed godwit, bar-tailed godwit, curlew, redshank and turnstone.

Nature’s great events

Mile upon mile of coastline - unchanged and undeveloped - The Lincolnshire Coast offers a magical haven for lovers of nature and the great outdoors.

Much of the Lincolnshire coastline is classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), making it internationally important as one of the country’s very best wildlife habitats. Nature lovers, birdwatchers, conservationists and pure romantics seeking a quiet escape will visit the Lincolnshire coastline and discover a charm guaranteed to have them returning again and again.

Exploring the coastal settlements of Saltfleetby, Crook Bank, Moggs Eye, Gibraltar Point and Anderby Creek offers the chance to visit some of the UK’s best nature spotting reserves first hand.

The Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe reserve, an important National Nature Reserve, occupies 5 miles of beautiful coast between Saltfleet Haven and Mablethorpe. With an abundance of wildlife and striking displays of sea-lavender during July and August this is the perfect place to get back to nature. For further information on the reserves visit www.lincstrust.org.uk

An unspoilt stretch of coastline, Gibraltar Point has a visitor’s centre that features a Wild Coast Exhibition, Nature Discovery Centre, gift shop and café – a great day out for the whole family.

Anderby creekThis is one of the most beautiful, un-spoilt beaches on the Lincolnshire coast. With quiet rural surroundings and good links to the nearby resorts of Chapel St Leonards & Mablethorpe, this tranquil corner of the coast is protected by a preservation order that keeps the amusement arcades and night-clubs away.

moggs eyeMoggs Eye, and Huttoft Bank are quiet, sandy beaches backed by sand dunes. Popular with nature lovers and dog walkers alike, you can literally walk for miles in either direction and explore this stretch of coast. This is also a great spot to indulge in a bit of sea fishing.

louth – A beautiful parkland course which tests both average and low handicappers.

woodhall spa – Two of the finest courses in the country at the home of English golf. Test your metal on the Hotchkin course - voted amongst the top 20 courses in the world.

golf doesn’t need a right time of year

enjoy golf

It’s an enjoyable challenge, a well-spent day, or a weekend with friends at any time.

Lincolnshire is lucky to have a great selection of courses to test all abilities if you fancy a round or two.

The choice of courses stretches from seaside links like Sandilands with spectacular views of the coastline, to rolling parkland fairways fringed with woods. There’s even a course voted the best in the country at Woodhall Spa, the home of English golf. What more could you want?

Well, a few birdies might be nice!

And then there’s plenty of good quality accommodation to make a golfing break an excellent proposition.

Follow 18 holes with a good meal in a welcoming clubhouse, and then enjoy the rest of the attractions the area has to offer.

When you get here, choosing which courses to play might prove more difficult than choosing the right club. www.lincolnshiregolfbreaks.com
