ROMANTIK HOTEL SCHLOSS MONDSEE | HISTORY

The former monastery which is now Schloss Mondsee can

look back on a history spanning well over a thousand

years. Soon after it was founded by the Bavarian Duke Odi-

lo II in 739, the monastery became a crystallisation point

for historico-cultural events. According to a monastery

history originating from the 12th century, 21 monks from

Monte Cassino moved into the monastery under Abbot

Opportununs I. at the time of its founding.

In the 8th century, it occupied an outstanding position among the Bavarian monasteries.

Around 800, the Emperor Charles the Great consigned the monastery to his court chaplain

Hildebald, under the leadership of whom it experienced its first cultural heyday. At this time,

the first partial translations of the Bible into the German language were produced inter alia.

Burnt to ashes after an invasion by the Magyars in around 900, the monastery was rebuilt

and experienced a new revival in the early 12th century. This was the heyday of the Mond-

see book illumination, the most beautiful samples of which can be found today in Vienna,

Munich and Oxford. In the troubled 13th and 14th centuries the complex was devastated

several times and reconstructed twice. Building activity in this region was incomparably ani-

mated throughout the 15th and 16th centuries and the monastery in Mondsee was exten-

ded to a certain degree, e.g. a new monastery church, several holy chapels and the const-

ruction of the oldest grammar school in former Upper Austrian territory in 1514. Eminent

master artists and sculptors - such as Wolf Huber, Albrecht Altdorfer, Michael Pacher and

Schwanthaler - had a substantial part to play in the artistic shaping of the monastery

complex.

Finally, the Mondsee monastery was secularised in 1791 under Leopold and the archives

and library transferred to Linz and Vienna. In the context of the Schönbrunn peace negotia-

tions, Schloss Mondsee fell into the hands of Napoleon who transferred it to the Bavarian

field marshal and minister of state Karl Philipp Prince Wrede via a deed of gift in 1809. The

male line of Wrede princes died out and the property with all of the estates was transferred

to the possession of the count’s family upon the marriage of Helena, the daughter of the

last prince, to the Portuguese Carl Otto von Almeida. As the marriage between Countess

Micheline Almeida and the American Count Rudi produced no offspring, the castle was

sold to the Asamer family in 1985.

By means of an extensive investment project, the extremely desolate castle building was

made useable again and particular attention was paid to maintaining the function, but

adapting it to the contemporary era.

The market town of Mondsee acquired the cultural and function centre, together with the

state of Upper Austria. Extension and restoration followed. Restoration of the castle complex

was completed with the opening of the Hotel Schloss Mondsee in June 2001.

THE SMALL PRINT

The business conditions set out hereafter apply to the hire of the hotel‘s event rooms for the holding of functions and for all associated services (room reservations) and supplies. The organiser and the hotel are the contractual partners. Solely the following business conditi-ons are applicable to the contractual relationship between the hotel and the organiser. The hotel requires a guaranteed number for all functions where food is served. For functi-ons, this must be notified at least 3 working days before the start of the function. This num-ber is considered to be a guaranteed minimum number for which our hotel will make all preparations. This figure, up to a maximum of 5% below the number of persons agreed on contract, will be charged on account of the organizers. If the actual number of persons ex-ceeds this minimum number, an additional charge will be made. Our extensive range is subject to constant and, above all, seasonal conditions. Should indi-vidual products be temporarily unavailable, we reserve the right to substitute these with pro-ducts of at least equal value. The products and prices offered are therefore non-binding. The organiser is not permitted to bring his own food and beverages to events in principle. However, in special cases a written agreement can be made in this regard. In this case, a service charge or corkage will be invoiced. Arrival and departure times Booked hotel rooms are available to the guest from 3.00 pm on the day of arrival until 11.00 am on the day of departure. Prices All prices are in EURO, inclusive of the currently applicable VAT rate (10% or 20%), 15% servi-ce charge. The prices are determined on the basis of the price list applicable at the time of service provision, unless fixed prices are stated in the order confirmation. Cancellation conditions: Once a contract is signed, the hotel will hold the agreed quota of bedrooms and the boo-ked conference rooms for the customer. Up to 3 months before arrival date: 40 % of anticipated total sales Up to 1 month before arrival date: 70 % of anticipated total sales Up to 7 days before arrival date: 90 % of anticipated total sales ‘No show’: 90 % of anticipated total sales The full amount of cancellation fees will only be charged if the bedrooms and banquet rooms cannot be sold to another customer by the hotel. Any cancellations and amend-ments must be notified in writing. However, should the organiser cancel an already confirmed booking, any preparation costs arising, in particular due to the hiring of meeting rooms, technical equipment, orde-ring of musical groups, etc. must be borne in full by the organiser.

Agreed deposits are non-refundable. However, should the hotel be able to sell the bedrooms and function rooms to another customer in the event of cancellation, deposit amounts will be reimbursed. Deposits must be transferred to the following account: Raika Mondsee, Sort Code 34322, Account No. 000-00.513.424, ATU 54080809, IBAN AT603432200000513424, BIC RZ00AT2L322. Payment of invoices Individual guests must settle any outstanding amounts upon departure, unless a written cost transfer agreement exists. The organiser is liable to pay for any food and beverages additio-nally ordered by function participants. Hotel invoices are payable within 10 days of the invoi-ce date without deduction. Amendments Amendments to the event programme or number of participants may lead to an adjustment of the agreed price. As soon as this contract is signed, all amendments between the hotel and customer must take the written form. The customer is not permitted to amend, supple-ment or delete the text of this contract. Any such amendments, supplementations and deleti-ons are ineffective. Place of jurisdiction The place of fulfilment and jurisdiction shall be the place of business of the hotel. Austrian law is applicable. Validity The contract and the corresponding booking is only valid if it has been returned to the hotel signed and dated by both contractual partners, with the specified deposit (if desired) within the specified timeframe. Should the hotel not receive the contract in a timely manner, it re-serves the right to cancel the booking of the event rooms or hotel bedrooms without notice and hire these out to other customers. General In order to ensure that group bookings (8 persons or more) proceed in an orderly manner, we request that the organiser provides the hotel with a list of participants no later than 14 days before the day of the group‘s arrival. Reserved function rooms are only available to the organiser at the time agreed in writing. Oc-cupation of the function rooms beyond the agreed timeframe must be arranged with the ho-tel in advance. In order to prevent damage to the walls, the attachment of decorative materials or other ob-jects must be arranged with the hotel in advance. We will be happy to supply you with pin-boards to this end. The organiser is liable to the hotel for damage occurring during the contract period. Out of consideration for holiday guests and neighbours, music is permitted until midnight. Thereafter, music may be played at room volume. Different and supplementary agreements or side agreements must be determined in writing in order to be effective.
