Music and foodhave always beeninseparable part-ners at Solms-Delta wine estatenearFranschhoek,and with the re-cent relocation ofits Fyndraai Res-taurant to the es-tate’s old stablebuilding, the ex-ploration of heri-tage food and ru-ral music is nowunderoneharmo-nious roof.

Adjacent to theestate’s newlyopened Music vande Caab centre,Fyndraaiisnowinabeautifullyreno-vated space enlivened with notes ofmusical decor.The restaurant’s chef,ShaunSchoeman, is cookingupevenmore heritage food inspired by freshindigenousproducegrownin theDikDelta Culinary Garden. Schoeman’smenu has been renewed and refresh-ed.“It’s a more modern and grownup

Fyndraaiinallrespects,whichI’mre-ally loving,” he says.The move has freed up the former

restaurant space, which will nowserve as the Solms-DeltaWijn van deCaab Tasting Room.There, the entire range of wines

will be available for tasting either in-side or outside on the veranda andlawn, along with a variety of localcheeses, charcuterie and sweet plat-ters that are an edible expression ofSouth African heritage.Themusical theme is carried from

the neighbouringMusic van deCaabcentre into the restaurant.

Colourphotographsofvariousmu-sical ensembles and events that formpartof theMusicvandeCaabproject,line the restaurant’s walls.Its back wall has been brought to

life with a vibrantly coloured muralthat provides a timeline of themusicof the Cape and its influences fromaround the world.

Fromearlyhumandevelopment toEuropean colonisation, the unmis-takablebeatof theghoemadrum, lan-garm and Cape Jazz, Cape music isa fascinating example of how contactfinds cultural expression.From a distance, the influences

read like a sheet of music, each noteadding to themeltingpot that isCape

Room feature is the Dik Delta foodand wine pairing, which specificallyshowcases indigenousproduce in sixsmall courses matched with Solms-Delta wines.

The historical heritage farm Solms­Delta’s Fyndraai Restaurant is the perfect setting for a traditional South Africanmeal in pristine surrounds.
