These workbooks have been developed for t he children of South
Afr ica under t he leadership of t he Minister of B asic Education,
Mr s Angie Mot shekga,and the Deputy M inister of Basic Education,
Mr Enver Surty.
The Rainbow W orkbooks form part of the Depart ment of
Basic Education’s range of inter ventions aimed at improving the
perfor mance of South Af rican learners in the fir st six grades.
As one of t he priorit ies of t he Government’s Plan of Action,t his
project has been made possible by the generous funding of t he
National Tr easury .This has enabled the Department t o make these
workbooks,in all t he off icial languages,available at no cost.
We hope that t eachers w ill f ind t hese workbooks useful in their
everyday teaching and in ensuring t hat t heir learners cover t he
curr iculum.W e have taken care t o guide the t eacher t hrough each
of the activit ies by the inclusion of icons that indicate what it is
