Abu Jamal lives in Khan Al Lubban, a historical site located in the village of Lubban Sharqiyeh, in between Nablus and Ramallah. Since he bought the land from his uncles in 1998 and moved in to the Khan he has been facing an organized campaign of legal and extra legal harassment from the Israeli authorities and settlers from the nearby illegal settlements of Maale Levona and Eli. This includes threats, harassment, intimidation, vandalism, destroying farm equipment, killing animals and physical assaults on himself and the members of his family that live in the Khan with him. At the same time the Israeli authorities have been using every possible law to make his life difficult. The latest action in this long list of events was the seizure of his tractor by the Israeli Army on December 4, 2013. The tractor was returned to him on January 13, 2014. Here is his account of the event : « I have had a tractor for a year now, this tractor makes it possible for me to work my land. The Israelis don't want me to work my land. On December 4th the Israeli army came to arrest me. They did not give me a reason. I asked to know why I was being arrested and they said 'it's none of your business'. They used force to arrest me and take me away from my house and my land. When I returned to the Khan I found that they had also come to take my tractor. I was not present when they took the tractor away and I don't know why they did. I was told I could retrieve my tractor on January 13th from the Beit Il military base. I brought a tow truck and left the military compound with my tractor. The tractor is currently in Nablus in the care of the organization that gave it to me in the first place. I am still waiting to get it back so I can work on my land. I don't know what the hold up is. » Here are some photos documenting the release of the tractor as well as the different documents that were given to Abu Jamal since his detention in December. Abu Jamal is available to answer questions and provide further information about his case. The pictures may be used freely for non commercial purposes.
