Piccadilly Circus is a famous road junction in Westminster (London). The word circus comes from the Latin and means a circle and it refers to the circular area at the street junction. It is a busy meeting point, a tourist attraction and a shopping street (Piccadilly). It is famous for its video display and neon signs on the corner building on the northern side. The site has illuminated Advertising screens occupied by Coca-Cola, Sanyo, TDK,McDonald’s, and Samsung. On special occasions the lights are switched off: for example, the death of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997.

It is also famous for the fountain with the popular statue of Eros. The fountain is a memorial monument to commemorate a famous Victorian politician, Lord Shaftesbury. On top of the monument there is a winged statue of an archer. That statue is a London icon: it is used as the symbol of the Evening Standard newspaper.

The Piccadilly Circus station of the London Underground is directly beneath it. Piccadilly Circus is a constant inspiration for artists and musicians. There are many paintings, illustrations, and pictures of this place. The Dire Straits song “Wild West

In London they use the phrase “It’s like Piccadilly Circus” to refer to a place or a situation that is very busy with people and chaotic. They also say that if people stay long at Piccadilly Circus, they will bump into a person they know.
