    English Level VI Syllabus

    Fall 2013: Saturdays 12:00PM-3:00PM

    Room 210

    Instructor: Arturo Marquez

    E-mail:[email protected](meetings by appointment only)

Overview: This course is aimed to help students create better speaking, writing, reading and

understanding skills of the English language. With the use of the assigned textbook and outside

readings, students will enhance their communications skills in a more conversational manner.

Reading Assignment: In order to develop our vocabulary each student is required to pick a

book to read (in English of course) throughout the semester. They will then be assigned to write

a one page review of the material for every 50 pages read. This will be due every other week

(please see schedule below). Each assignment must be typed in Times New Roman and 12 pt

    font, doubled spaced.

Texts: Block Buster US 3 Student BookISBN: 978-84558-888-5

Block Buster Workbook & Grammar BookISBN: 1-84558-900-9

Grade: The final course grade will reflect progress and performance in all aspects of the course,

including participation, completing assignments, critiquing the work of others, and performance

    during presentations.

    Class Participation/Attendance: 10%Homework Assignments: 20%

    Book Reports: 20%

    Exams x 3: 30%

    Final Presentation: 10%

SAC: 10% (will be discussed in class)

Attendance: Given our class schedule, students are only allowed ONE unexcused absence. This

is because the amount of material covered in each class will cause the student to fall behind too

    much.

Homework: All homework assignments will be e-mailed every Wednesday afternoon and it is

the responsibility of the students to assure that the professor has the correct e-mail address.

This also serves as a way to communicate with the instructor for any questions in the topic.
