     Abstract 

    The importance of conducting needs has been found fundamental. The aim of this study

    has been to identify English language needs of Alkan, Kiyamed and Gambi Medical 

    colleges in Bahir Dar ton. Three hundred students and fi!e teachers, and fi!e e"ecuti!e

    bodies of each of the medical colleges and the Amhara Bureau of Education and #ealth

     Bureau had participated in the study. The methods of data collection ere semi$

     structured %uestionnaire, semi$structured inter!ie and document analysis. The data

    collection methods ere referring to the language skills, language use, language testing,

    teaching methods, and other related issues to E&' (English for Academic 'urposes).

     Both descripti!e and inferential statistics had been employed in analy*ing the ra data

    collected. +uota and random, comprehensi!e, and purposi!e samplings ere used to the

     students, to the teachers and e"ecuti!e bodies respecti!ely. The result shos that 

     speaking and reading are fa!orite skills of the students hile the teachers recommend 

     speaking and riting as the most important skills to medical students. eported speech,

    communicati!e acti!ities and tense types ere found the grammatical and functional 

    language needs of the students. The teachers and the students prescribe the need of 

    learning E&' for the best possible English use in their field of study hile the e"ecuti!e

    bodies suggested G'E. -sing !arying items in testing (depending on their needs) is

    recommended to meet the di!ersified needs of the students. Thus, the colleges and 

     Bureau of education and Bureau of #ealth need to emphasis the need of the students and 

    ha!e to re!ise the present day materials in light ith the students needs.
